Hope everyone is doing well! I filmed this video on March 9 before the world turned upside down over here. Wanted to share it anyway because it's honestly a great time to start a UA-cam channel right now. Some of us (myself included) have more time than usual as a result of being home all the time. Be safe!
Great tips! 👍 I already follow these tips as I’m not comfortable on camera. But I’m trying, especially now that I need to keep my mind on other things. 😋
Yeah. I was thinking about starting a channel. Then I died last October and spent November in hospitals. I wondered if that would be a compelling story. I got better, but kept putting it off until I was better. Now, I'm better but the world is sick.
You died? I am sorry you spent so much time in hospitals. If you shared your story I would love to listen to it. Just because the world is going through this doesn’t mean you can’t start a channel.
You don't actually have to have yourself on camera either if you're not comfortable with that, just look at Regular Car Reviews for a good example of how that can be done! I'm planning on doing a review of a pink plastic toy camera in that style soonish (still waiting for the film scans to come back, which should be some time this week) My channel is going to be mostly centered around the things I've learned taking pictures at furry conventions to start out with, both on film and digital. I know conventions of all sorts are very heavily photographed events (anime and comic cons too!) and a lot of times the venues aren't exactly suited to giving you good results. Every event I've been too has been a chance to try something new and learn a little more about what works!
That's true! It's not necessary but I think it does allow people to connect with you on a different level. Furry conventions sounds like fun! I bet your footage from those is awesome.
Most of times I also have fear of putting myself on camera or even talking on camera, but sometimes I just don't care and say : I am who I am and I don't care about people think about me. :)
Hi Nicole ...I feel like I really needed to see this video. Thanks for making it! It's helping me to restart after I got stuck JUST when I started. Looking forward to more of your stuff!
great tips! I also don't like filming when my family is around, I know they won't care but I just cant! I do way better recording myself when I am completely alone
I started my channel a few years ago but I only upload occasionally as I'm too busy to do any more, so my channel is still really small. My first few videos I didn't tell anyone, and now I only tell the people that I know who will be supportive :) I also mostly make tutorial or work log videos that I'm not in which makes it easier to upload more as I don't always like the videos I've filmed of me. These are all really good tips that you've shared :) I really enjoy your channel!
Nailed it once again! Yup, that’s me, I go out of my way to not talk to the camera 🤣🤣🤣 I have no problem being in my videos and I am in a few but man it’s weird when you can’t see someone’s reaction. I keep telling myself “ok I’m doing it!!” The other problem is I am too intense for most ppl and I can come off like a hard ass 🤪🤪🤪🤪 I am a store manager for a large retail chain and boy do I got some stories right now, especially how crazy my job has become!!! I’m going to try harder!! The first tip, too late 😂😂😂😂😂😂 but it’s cool, it’s just a hobby for me. Thanks again for a great video
Haha yeah I relate! And I bet you have some interesting stories... might be a good time to share them! Especially if they're related to all the crazy panic shopping.
I followed your video nicole...i got great info and tips from you...i knew shutterstock from you also...im new to shutterstock but i already have 2 downloads.thanks
I'm introvert, no changing that. I want to create (not take) excellent photos and videos. You can't tell from the videos on here, but I'm done taking them. Probably will create shooting how to product videos and photos. Keep up the good work.
Thank you one more time for your videos ! I m too shy to expose my self in camera and I don't show my face but I loved your advices ,I will try to start !!
the most relatable tips on youtube. i have actually started uploading some recipe videos because i felt awkward recording myself and i still didn't get over it.
I endorse everything you say here. I did a series of videos on a specialist branch of programming. A subject with all the interest of watching paint dry for the uninvolved. I did them to keep myself up to speed and motivate myself to study more. No monetization and little expectation of making much if I had. They took a lot of preparation and I mean a lot. You can't ad-lib this kind of thing and I'm no good at it anyway. And, any revenue would not come close to what I can make professionally. The first year and there was little interest and I came close to forgetting I'd even made the videos. Then, I started to get messages asking me to make more. I checked and found that some of the views count for this specialist-niche were in the thousands. Wow! That interest gave me a huge boost. OK, so it's not Justin Bieber or a playful kitten but, encouraging nevertheless. I wouldn't swap places with Bieber for all the views in the world anyway. So yes, just do it. Don't be put off by any negative comments you might get. Treat them as potential advice. Come on! I saw a video of a guy putting a fish and ketchup in a blender once. How bad do you think yours might be?
Thanks for sharing your experience! I definitely relate. I didn't go into this thinking I'd be making videos about stock photography. It just so happens that the 1 video I made about it is the one that took off and the one that people wanted more info about. So sometimes you just can't predict where it takes you...
Well done, Nicole. I think it's pretty challenging to come up with fresh content at the moment. I'm finding it hard to create, so i'm just taking it as a sign that I need to take a break until I have the energy and inspiration. All the best to you
I am wanting to start a channel based on photography/videography (Tutorials/Tips) plus gear reviews, how I edit my photos, plus travel (which is now on hold) but I am stuck for a REAL first video....I don't want to do a "what's in my camera bag" video and right now all I have up on my channel is some drone footage using my DJI Mavic Mini
Don't worry so much about the first video. It took me over 50 videos before people really started watching mine. Just start making them and get into the flow :)
Hi Nicole, only recently discovered your channel and I have a question with regards to submitting photos to Shutterstock. My question "Is submitting composite photos accepted? Or is it deemed unethical" Does changing the sky class a photo as "doctered" and therefore non saleable? Great channel, great content, keep it coming.
Hi, you can submit composites but you have to follow a couple of rules that SS lays out here: www.shutterstock.com/contributorsupport/articles/kbat02/000009307 Basically, yes - you can change the sky - if the original sky image also belongs to you.
You sound like my younger daughter. When she was in elementary school and junior high, she was in the San Francisco Girls' Chorus. She had no problem in their performances; not even in a massive joint concert with other choral groups performing at San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall for the visiting Queen of England! But get her to sing for the family? Uh, no way! LOL
LOL i feel you. I think at times we all feel you . I just started a channel about being a female photographer in NYC. Scary but fun!! Check it out, if that's ur thing
What! You are concerned how you come across? No need. You are professional and have a great voice for UA-cam. My problem is it’s hard to remember my content. But I have started using a small teleprompter. We can all use a crutch now and there. Good topic for new tubers. 🌴Aloha

Hey Nicole! I just started a channel as well (about being a female photographer in NYC). It's scary but def fun. Thanks for the tips!!
Great tips! 👍 I already follow these tips as I’m not comfortable on camera. But I’m trying, especially now that I need to keep my mind on other things. 😋
Absolutely. We need to keep ourselves occupied right now.
I did it! Started my own channel this past week! I'm off to create art tutorials with a focus on sustainability!
Woohoo! 🙌
I feel the same way most of the time. I tend to have no issue making videos for strangers, but family not so much.

Thank you. I want me and my band to cover songs, but we're all afraid of making mistakes. We're all learning songs by ear.
Great tips, I started my channel about a month ago and I definitely prefer no one else in ear shot when I'm filming
We are very similar ;)
Most of times I also have fear of putting myself on camera or even talking on camera, but sometimes I just don't care and say : I am who I am and I don't care about people think about me. :)
I love your honest to goodness videos, understated, intelligent, informative, no nonsense...and the way you get straight into it, no silly intros.
You are awesome 😍

Great video. I've decided to give it a try. We all might as well try something new and out of our comfort zone during these crazy times!
Woohoo! Yes, it's time to try new things.
You are a star!
Aww
At 1:51 a time-traveler was seen at your 9 o'clock position; he walked toward a tree then vanished into thin air 😳

Great tips! 👍I’m not comfortable on camera but with a focus on my dog... it simple.
As usual, super helpful and lovely delivery!! Time to get started FINALLY!

Thanks! That's just a little tiny forest/park near my job where I like to escape to. Filmed this during a lunch break about 2 weeks ago.

Hi Michael, I use Adobe Premiere Pro :)

I was in that same place that you are. Breaks are good. You’ll find the inspiration again.
@@NicoleGlass have a good week. One day at a time.
Probably best to do your following videos indoors for the next few months -keep up the good work
Thanks. As I mentioned in the beginning, this video was filmed 2 weeks ago.
Great advise, I'd love to try. I just don't feel I have anything to share that I have deep enough subject knowledge.
You don't have to be an expert. You can also just share your journey.
you so sweet) thank's for your channel!

Dear Nicole - I want to buy Nikon Z50 how is this camera
I have never used this camera personally, but you might want to check out some of the Nikon UA-camrs out there who have more experience with it.
I want to send you some of my photography photos to ask you something about these pictures how can I send it?
