Absolutely, I plan on using SnS for smaller monsters like Chatacabra, Doshaguma, and like Teo. Bow for much bigger targets like Ray Dau, Fatalis (If he here), and the "bigger bad" of this game
same, I originally wanted to main bow in world, but after finishing the base game I just couldn't feel it and swapped to Switch Axe/SnS. But this iteration of Bow (and HH) just felt so incredibly good it's crazy
@@trainerorange8483 MHW bow main with roughly 1200 hunts here, secondary is longsword. Bows not as easy as u would think on the bigger more difficult monsters (especially endgame), just so ur aware. It feels that way because u can keep distance, but u take higher physical damage than other weapons by a lot. A hit that might only take maybe 1/3rd of ur health on SnS will take half or more on bow. Not a huge deal when ur used to it, but larger enemies with larger hit boxes is definitely a thing. Can be full health in the flow doing good, monster will catch u slippin with a quick back to back 2 piece and send ur ass back to camp lol. U have to maintain ur health a lot more, because being 1/4th or 1/3rd of the way down on health can get u killed easily. When I play longsword, I feel like I have a lot more wiggle room on hits and health management but with my bow I have to be way more on point. Ur stamina is a huge thing, constantly draining so u have to be way more sware of it because that dash for u is vital when u consider the damage u take. Most endgame guides focus on pure elemental DPS, but I recommend investing in constitution and stamina surge so stamina consumption is less of a problem. What u sacrifice in damage per shot u WILL make up with being able to shoot more frequently with less breaks to recover. Damage on higher tier monsters is harder to deal. U do dogshit physical damage, ur purely elemental and critical. U have to constantly hit critical or injured points or ur not doing anything damage wise. Some larger monsters move fast and have smaller hit boxes for critical areas, making them way harder to fight. For example, Zinogre is way more of a bitch for bows than melee weapons and Rajang is a goddamn nightmare lol. Then there's some monsters like Teostra (flamed up) or Kushala that u can ONLY do damage on critical areas, ur arrows will break with 0 damage on the body. Dont get me wrong I love the bow, but theres definitely some pros and cons to it. But don't expect to have an easier time with monsters, its quite the opposite IMO 😂
I really hope they get performance dialed down in the next few months. I really hate how every new game relies so heavily on upscaling. I feel like games not only perform worse but now they all look blurry too because of upscaling. Let’s hope capcom can sort this out.
You should try bow in ice borne it was amazing in world but even better with the slinger ammo being usable on the bow. It's crazy strong and can ko any monster over and over
@@MikeHunt-lz2hq I've always been put off by phials being a consumable item, especially considering how little ammo you can carry for each type. Now they recharge just by using the weapon. Plus, homing missiles.
@MichaelRafferty-xb7iy i mean, the old system was still better. It was trivial to get coatings without much grind anyways, and they would almost always last the enitre hunt. Even without, infinite close range was pretty good. Now, you constantly have to break the flow of combat to re-coat your arrows every 8 shots, on top of re-upping tracers. Very stilted playstyle, not super flowy.
Also, there is a setting to make the L2 aim function a toggle instead of a hold down. Takes a little getting used to but it opens up my left index finger to use the dpad while still aiming
I ended up doing something i never thought i would do in a mh game ive been mainly using gunner weapons in the beta usually im blade master but bow and lbg have caught most of my interest this time around
I never really used bow before, or ranged weapons much due to having to craft the ammunition, but getting rid of that along with taking moves straight of mystic archer from DD2 definitely is going to make me give this a try.
yeah my main gripe with the ranged weapons was the ammo having to be crafted, in world i mained the light bowgun but i barely ever used elemental/effect bullets because crafting them was a hassle, really happy with the changes with the bow.
Bow was never the top 3 in world, in world it was Long Sword, Greatsword and Charge Blade, no offense bow might've been the worst or nearly the worst in world, though I will say this version is a hundred thousand times better
@ speed running community is nothing because they use glitches mainly to boost the weapons damage it’s the reason why number one is gunlance but it’s never an actual run
Bow and Longsword were my go to weapons in World I'm loving the new additions in Wilds, I'm looking forward to playing around with elemental bow in the full game
Looks like each bow might have either close, power or pierce coating as their main damage coating to effectively create spread/close range bows, normal/medium range bows, and pierce/long range bows.
I used Bow a lot in MHW and I love many of the changes. I wish they would tweak the homing part of the shots, because right now you can't really miss anymore. MH franchise for me, is always about skill and it's very clear a lot of the changes are made to make the game much more casual and requires less accuracy in general, what I always thought was the pay off when fighting monsters.
I was upset about insect glaive (my favorite weapon ever) but the bow seems to have gained a place in my heart. I recommend every previous ig mains to try the bow for once and you will love it as much as I did
I am an IG main with bow secondary. Right now I'm finding some of the IG combos to be unresponsive and the kinsect is painfully weak for the reydau fight in beta. The bow has been a blast all the way
Thank you for the gameplay. The guns aren't enough fun for me and my brother tell me when you master the bow you master the hunt. He play with the sword shield axe ( sorry I'm french, we called it : la voltohache) and I play the insect glaive. I saw the gameplay of this weapon too.
Damn that's a comprehensive guide for day one. This leaves me with one question. What is the optimal combo rotation? I'm guessing, since we start with a full trickshot gauge, apply status coatings for a quick poison/para/sleep, apply tracer to weakpoint, apply power coatings, normal shots to max charge level then dash dance. Use the arc shot followed by the focus strike in to instant dragon piercer whenever the monster remains still long enough to give you a window for the arc shot to land. Flying swallow shot can be used as an evasive option if your dodge doesn't quite go far enough?
Bow is absolutely insane now. there have been a couple times where I have done 400 damage with the wound breaker attack, considering that's using the default starter bow that's insane.
After skipping bow in MHW (which was my main in MH3U, MH4U and MHGU) bow is incredible now. Shame i couldnt play much of the beta and go more in-depth with it.
Can you please do the Lance? Theres a couple mechanics i dont really understand especially with the counters because sometimes i do like 85 damage other times i do like 50 even though i hit the same spot i think theres like a damage buff from countering at like the right time but idk theres also a weird charge attack counter and well theres multiple clunters idk its also weird because ill like glow red for like an extended period of time kinda like how you charge up attacks but like its stays red for some reason letting you counter with max damage without having to charge the attack the most I've been able to land is 110 damage
Just finished my 50th bow hunt on MHWorld and this looks like masive gameplay improvement, few more hours and will be able to test it on PC. Nice guide!
I actually am really growing to like how small the beta is. Gives me a chance to try all the weapons without feeling like I'm missing out on anything...
Is the dodge window for Discerning Dodge pretty good? Im assuming its like the longsword sheath attack when you time it with a monsters hit and you slice through them.
I tried all weapons and had a lot of fun(usually i main sns and it feels fantastic in wilds), but the bow was on a completely different level. In the games before it felt incomplete to me and arc shot did not feel impactful. This time the bow connects all the dots for me and will be my main in wilds.
I didn't expect coatings to be "infinite" now, but it's behind a bar you have to build up. Didn't mind crafting it actually, but it'll lose its charm for those who enjoy prepping
Was in IG main but switched to Bow and probably gonna stick with it. The moves are so flashy and deal great damage. IG lost a lot i feel like by taking out the re-launch mechanic
Kind of disappointing that we lose the grappling attack move. The one where your grappled to the monster and you cut with your arrows jump off into a backflip shot. That was absolute cinema, and we don't have it anymore.
Really enjoyed using the Bow in the beta, never used it any of the other games so it was really fresh. My main issue is that the trick gauge seems a liiiitle too easy to fill. There was never a moment where I was out of gauge, and it refills so quickly that there's really no reason at all to not be using the moves that consume it all the time.

This is literally what I thought when I started messing around with it and hit the enemy with the tracer shot
And then the l2 r1 is just straight up magic archer from dragon's dogma lol
