When I first watched this episode, during the sequence where Metallix is using Yoshi's tongue to punch him repeatedly, I thought the tongue was gonna snap off with how brutal Metallix is. Absolutely love the Yoshi Vs. Metallix fight, probably the best one Mark Haynes has made (so far).
20:58 Yeah, we all have concerns for the well being of Yoshi here. Especially from those of us that watched episode 3 of the OG series. I remember seeing the fanart of Yoshi and Metallix anticipating the release of episode 2 and boy Yoshi was not ready for what was to come. The brutality of this fight far outclasses the original episode, even if some of the fight scenes were copied from the original. But Yoshi at least got to power up this time! He didn't even get emerald powered in the OG. Eggman was actually introduced in episode 7 of the original series, but he was silhouetted the entire time. Alvin reviewed the plot for the reboot and decided there was no reason to silhouette a character we all knew the identity of, so he decided to make a number of changes, especially since episode 7 got completely wiped out of the reboot. - The aftermath of Bowser's fight from episode 2 was shown in episode 7, which showed him crying the entire time. Instead, now he's reintroduced immediately and launches his next plan to send out the Koopa Bros. Which is actually a kind of plot hole in the OG if he was spending the entire time crying after his defeat so good on Mark for addressing that. - Bowser Jr is here, which he was completely absent in the original. - He decided to parallel Shadow and Eggman explaining the emeralds, which of course you noticed. 18:07 That's a Super Mario Galaxy 2 powerup! Yoshi got some unique powerups in that game. 30:18 I think that's also a Super Mario Galaxy voice line, but not Yoshi's. I could be wrong here, it could be an audio edit of one of Yoshi's voice lines, but it sounds like the cries that the mole mini-bosses make when you get a hit on them. Either way, it fits Yoshi incredibly well for that moment, and it's definitely not a pleasant sounding line with the way Mark edited it. One thing I wanted to let you know is that this series has quite a bit of fanart. This probably isn't surprising, but I thought I'd let you know about the reanimations that people have made for this series. One of them is a full 3D model recreation of the opening used for the reboot, which was absolutely incredible to watch. It was made by NooB. Also, SMBZ episode 6 has a reanimated collab that I'd recommend checking out. It's so great to see the dedication people have for this series, and I recall they're also working on a collab for episode 8 that will release eventually.
"How is Yoshi tired? I thought he chaos emeralds had infinite energy!" Yea but Yoshi's physical body doesnt. I dont think that emerald is healing him. Actually reminds me of Android 17 and 18 from Dragonball Z; they have infinite energy and never get tired but dont have infinite strength and very much still feel pain. Also I...don't think Yoshi is using that emerald properly lol
I think that based on him swallowing Red Koopas and harnessing their latent fire power, this might’ve been the only way for Yoshi to use it. But yeah, without the other emeralds, it’s slowly sapping at Yoshi’s stamina and latent strength reserves.
i think metallix was first designed as a silhouette for mecha sonic's ultimate form, but the og smbz never got to the part where he transforms into that. and then other sprite battle animators made a complete version based on how the silhouette looked, and in the reboot, he replaced mecha as the base

So in the original I believe metallix resembled Mecha sonic from Sonic3&Knuckles but this version looks more like Neo metal sonic from sonic heroes, though I believe it's mashed with mega man parts. On another note Eggman was always known as Eggman in Japan and the Robotnick name was just in the west until sonic adventure when they put both names in it, introducing the west to the Eggman name

But his nickname/moniker is the Eggman. It started because Sonic called him that to make fun of his body shape (which is kinda rude tbh), but then Eggman just to embrace it to spite Sonic. It's like how Captain Hook isn't the real name but Peter Pan calls him that to make fun of the hook hand Geez Yoshi *has* to be dead after this Oh so the third one isn't out yet. Assuming he still had technology left capable of tracking the Chaos Emeralds, doctor likely made his way there, possibly partly because of knowing that if Metallix ever learned good doctor survived, the robot would immediately seek to kill him to ensure he'd never invent a machine capable of taking him down. Which would also give Robotnik his reasons to acquire the Chaos Emeralds before Metallix does.
Yeah, I guess the surprise mostly just came from him not having known the emeralds were there to begin with. I could definitely believe he has something capable of tracking them, but, not knowing how it works...yeah, some questions remain, some disbelief to suspend in the meantime lol
