Thorin Oakenshield finally overcame his greed for the gold to fight and defeat the Orcs once and for all even as he succumbed to his death in fighting the Orc king.

The amount of crap the hobbit films get from CrItIcS is gross. They’re amazing films and deserve better. The general audience knows how good they are

There is a reall good video by Men of the West I think his name is in what if Thorin had survived and it's clear that if he had survived the Dwarves would have thrived rather than hide away

Well I will make sure to watch the beforementioned video but as a Big Tolkien fan I gathered some knowledge on the theme.
As you know after Thorin’s passing the crown was bestowed upon Dain II and Dain got the offer to join Sauron which he refused and sent Gloin to Rivendell.
Also when Balin wanted to go to Moria, Dain was against such idea, as turned out to be wrong decision for Balin, as we know what happened in Moria.
Also Dain maintained very good friendship with Man Of Dale and Thranduil’s Mirkwood.
And when War came, Dain’s investments in defenses and armory payed off as the Lonely mountain was not conquered, because if Erebor fell that could turn around the war in Sauron’s favor.
Conclusion is Erebor was repopulated with Dwarvish colonists from each of the seven Dwarf kingdoms, and was soon restored to its former glory and flourished once more, as did its neighbor city of men - Dale. In time, Erebor retook its place as the most powerful Dwarf kingdom in Middle-earth. So what could Thorin do better than Dain?

@@Unscriptify First one simple reason, the Arkenstone. The arkenstone as a symbol was not only worth a fortune but it was a simple of the dwarves might and the glory days and a symbol like that (as we have seen in history) allows strength to grow ten fold. Thorin also had a great love for the hobbits due to his time with Bilbao and it was already known by that point that the shire was under great threat. Unlike Dain, Thorin would have captured the messenger and mist likely extracted information that would have heavily helped the last alliance. Now this would have caused the battle or Erebor to happen sooner as the dwarves would have declared war rather than hide and what this would have caused is a lack in time for Sauron to send the force he did (I think it was 200,000). Now the dwarves totalled 150,000 including the men of Dale and with Sauron not being able to create such a force to keep them back the force that would have been sent (which has been estimated at as little as 80,000) would have been obliterated by Thorin's forces. Now if we are following this alternate timeline Balin would have not went to Moria due to the impending battle, Gloin and Gimli still would have went to Rivendell and by the time of the battle of the black gate the Dwarves would have been able to join with Elessar (Aragorn) in one final push against Sauron. So although Dain did a great job due to his 'thinking' far more dwarves died and as well as this if you look at what was written after the hobbit the dwarves were already starting to die off after the Arkenstone was buried.

@@kaihiggins725 I don’t share same opinion about that... Balin quest for Moria started some thirty years before the Council of Elrond and messenger came about a year prior to the War Of The Ring. Also if we consider Thorin’s Dragon sickness (we don’t know if it is returnable) it is debatable if Thorin’s judgement would be fogged once again this time by Sauron’s offer to return three rings (as this time he wouldn’t have Bilbo, Balin, Fili & Kili by his side).
Also why would anyone catch the messenger, and why would someone send messenger with highly valuable information that would exploit him to riska. Also I highly doubt the messenger would give any information valuable to the Last Allience (which in this moment does not exist), also if it wasThorin Sauron would know about his friendship with the ring thief than maybe he wouldn’t even send the messenger already knowing he would be rejected. So if in this alternate timeline there is not messenger, there wouldn’t be any preparations for war by Thorin. Knowing that Sauron would undoubtedly betray the dwarves in the end, King Dáin said he’d consider Sauron’s offer so as to buy time. In secret, however, the King under the Mountain sent Glóin and his son as messengers to Imladris, their mission being to warn Bilbo. Also I do not share opinion this messenger would be the cause for war declaration by Thorin. Also even if all you say would happen and Thorin would announce war and thus started the battle of Erebor/Dale earlier it is known they only managed to last so long under Dain due to all the preparations he made for defenses and weapons, and if dwarves weren’t equipped with all that they would again be overrun by Easterlings. And if Thorin announced war forces at Dol Guldur would also attack him and Thranduil. Etc etc theories are theories I think best possible outcome came from the Tolkien’s ink.

@@Unscriptify actually the didn't know about Thorin and Biblo as Sauron and the Nazgul still though Gollum had the ring (if you read Fellowship of the Ring). Also I'm a little shaky with the timelines lol but Thorin's dragon sickness was simply just for the gold however he snapped out of it. Sauron couldn't currupt the dwarves hence why the rings were useless on them and regarding the messenger I think it was a Nazgul and I think the Dwarves did have some barrow blades (some of the only weapons that can harm a Nazgul). By the time of the battle at Erebor the dwarves were already well supplied before Dain decided to forge more so supplies wouldn't have been an issue with the Gunda-Bar Orcs being occupied with Dwarves already in the Blue Mountains I think. Also due to the battle of the five armies many of the Gunda-Bar Orcs were killed and since they weren't just made like regular Orcs but simply the bloodline of the strongest orcs they wouldn't have been able to take on two dwarves forces and like I said Sauron wouldn't have had the same amount of time to muster the Easterlings as war would have started far sooner

@@Unscriptify I think I do disagree on the best outcome being what happened though. As I said when you read through what Tolken had noted for what happened after the hobbit with the Dwarves, they simply hid away after the death of Thorin so under Thorin they may have been more pro-active with the population far stronger. It's all its and buts but so fun to tall about
