    Very impressive how the Aussie lads can get the hang of the round ball so quickly and were pushing for the win. A couple of minutes more and it might have been a different outcome. Their fitness and tenacity is always going to be professional level but it's their fielding, passing and kicking too that's just as good. Class bunch of sportsmen.

      Even though Aussie rules isn’t the most commercialised sport, it is highly professional and AFL players are top notch athletes. They’re all in incredible shape, comparable to soccer players, and they all need to have a high level of skill, being able to catch/mark the ball, kick the ball with accuracy, punch the ball accurately, carry the ball without taking too many steps without bouncing. And all that with enormous pace and little time.
      Started watching the AFL just recently, I am really impressed.

      @@LomuHabanaactually i would go so far as to say they need to be even fitter due to using their upper bodies for handballs and tackling and also run further due to having a bigger field

    • @LomuHabana
      @LomuHabana 4 місяці тому

      @@ElonMuskTheFueler I compared them in terms of general fitness and “leanness”. Both can’t permit having any unnecessary fat cells and have to have solid muscles resilience.
      But you are right, AFL player need on top of that even more athleticism and physicality. Tackling (especially since tackling the legs is illegal, unlike in Rugby) and hand passing (they are able to give hand passes/punches over distances longer than 20 meters, insane) is one thing, but don’t forget marking/contesting. They really need to have good leg muscles to be able to jump high and being physically strong to be able to use their bodies in the context.
      The combination of general fitness/stamina/running ability, strength, strength endurance, athleticism and agility is probably unmatched by any sport. Just incredible on all levels what “footy” players have to bring to the table. If the sport had been developed in England or the US instead of Australia/Victoria, Aussie rules would be a big/global sport.

    Ireland really haven't much of an advantage considering they aren't used to the take down tackle and they have to play against professional athletes and most of the Irish team just have your average job like a teacher or an accountant. They have to get up every morning like you or I for they're job. Aswell as that a circular ball is much easier to get used to kicking than getting used to kicking an oval ball.

      Both the GAA and the AFL want to promote their sports. Both sports have a lot of similarities but also differences. They came up with a compromise game that makes the sport as equal as possible for people who come from both codes.
      There are GAA clubs all over the world. Europe, Asia, North America and even Australia. There are not as many AFL clubs.
      If you want to play Aussie Rules and live in Clermont-Ferrand in France what opposition do you have? The local GAA team. Chicago? The local GAA team. Tokyo? The local GAA team. All over the world Australians who like AFL now have an opportunity to play against other teams.
      This is what the inventors of the comprise game had in mind when they came up with the concept. I live in a North Ameican city with about 12 Gaelic football clubs and only one Aussie Rules team.

    to clarify, this is a mixture of GAA and AFL. The test series is held in Australia and Ireland every second year and both teams have won in the past. It’s a healthy mixture of rules from both games and is played with a GAA ball as a round ball is easier to kick, even if you’ve only played with a sherrin your whole life. I don’t know why people are complaining, the Australians kicking technique is very good and the test series is normally very competitive and fair. Absolutely, I feel like the compromise rules are a lot closer to GAA than AFL, but I prefer Gaelic anyway lol. Since they added the mark rule it’s pretty close, but the tackling gives defenses a way to stop a solid drive dead, and those are pretty exciting too, with the offset being you see more plays for possession in Gaelic. • @BrandonjSlippingAway
      @BrandonjSlippingAway 8 років тому +3

      Well there's two main reasons;
      1) That is needlessly complicated to get two sports played in the one series. It's happened in the past and generally doesn't go well. It'd merely be a smashing in each preferred sport. The compromise rules add advantages and disadvantages to each team.
      2) Ireland does not have big oval stadiums, that's an Aussie Rules and Cricket thing. The point of the series is that it can alternate between both countries and doing what you said would be impossible if the Irish also had to play under Australian rules.
      3) (As a bonus) The series used to be a best of 2 series, with the winner on aggregate score should the games be 1-1. It'll likely return to this format once the series resumes in 2017.
