    to clarify, this is a mixture of GAA and AFL. The test series is held in Australia and Ireland every second year and both teams have won in the past. It’s a healthy mixture of rules from both games and is played with a GAA ball as a round ball is easier to kick, even if you’ve only played with a sherrin your whole life. I don’t know why people are complaining, the Australians kicking technique is very good and the test series is normally very competitive and fair. It’s a chance to promote both sports as they’re both somewhat similar

      Do you think Britain and the USA could field teams and make this a really international game.

      @@tomkeegan3782 Right. I just found this sport and find it beautiful and fascinating. The pace and flow are very upbeat with a high degree of athleticism and precision needed to play at a high level. It feels like it's what football ought to be. I'm an American, and I love our football, but the pace of this is just so much more free. You lose a lot of the designed plays and tactical nature, but I see that as a welcome trade. Hopefully some colleges pick it up or leagues form so I could watch regularly.

    • @UKCrazy007
      @UKCrazy007 3 роки тому

      Absolutely, I feel like the compromise rules are a lot closer to GAA than AFL, but I prefer Gaelic anyway lol. Since they added the mark rule it’s pretty close, but the tackling gives defenses a way to stop a solid drive dead, and those are pretty exciting too, with the offset being you see more plays for possession in Gaelic. I’ll definitely look to see if there’s any GAA in my area, but eastern KY is pretty set in its ways, most people’s sport of choice is basketball or cornhole.

    • @LomuHabana
      @LomuHabana Рік тому +1

      Even though it is theoretically easier and a good choice for this game, it is still hard to adapt to a round ball if you usual play with a Sherrin. So the GAA players most definitely have an advantage here. The advantage is of course way less pronounced as the advanced the Aussies would have if they played with a Sherrin.

      The only difference between our amateur intercounty players and your AFL players is not the amount of training or quality of training its recovery.Intercounty players can not recover in the same way because they have to work.Aswell as that intercounty players also play for their local club aswell as county.Some play for their county in a few different grades and do the same at their clubs.The AFL looks after just one sport whereas the GAA also has hurling so some counties have dual players who represent their county at both sports

      Michael Beast Well its rare but it still happens not as much as in the old days,but they are still notable examples podge collins of clare and the women you have rhena buckley and brid corkery of cork.The women train just as hard as the men.Nowadays its rarer in the past you had many players sean og o halpin and his brother setanta jimmy barry murphy.It is becoming thing of the past,but its a part of the GAA which is very important because it is a multisport organisation committed to the fostering of all irish pastimes,
      Away from the intercounty scene at club level there is a very interesting development whereby a GAA club have won provincial championships in three codes football hurling and camogie)ladirs hurling) with the same team except for camogie of course from a village of 250.They will now go on to contest the all ireland club championships.If they win through to the final it will be very interesting because both finals are on the same day

    Very impressive how the Aussie lads can get the hang of the round ball so quickly and were pushing for the win. A couple of minutes more and it might have been a different outcome. Their fitness and tenacity is always going to be professional level but it's their fielding, passing and kicking too that's just as good. Class bunch of sportsmen.

    • @LomuHabana
      @LomuHabana Рік тому +4

      Even though Aussie rules isn’t the most commercialised sport, it is highly professional and AFL players are top notch athletes. They’re all in incredible shape, comparable to soccer players, and they all need to have a high level of skill, being able to catch/mark the ball, kick the ball with accuracy, punch the ball accurately, carry the ball without taking too many steps without bouncing. And all that with enormous pace and little time.
      Started watching the AFL just recently, I am really impressed.

    • @ElonMuskTheFueler
      @ElonMuskTheFueler 8 місяців тому +2

      @@LomuHabanaactually i would go so far as to say they need to be even fitter due to using their upper bodies for handballs and tackling and also run further due to having a bigger field

    • @LomuHabana
      @LomuHabana 8 місяців тому

      @@ElonMuskTheFueler I compared them in terms of general fitness and “leanness”. Both can’t permit having any unnecessary fat cells and have to have solid muscles resilience.
      But you are right, AFL player need on top of that even more athleticism and physicality. Tackling (especially since tackling the legs is illegal, unlike in Rugby) and hand passing (they are able to give hand passes/punches over distances longer than 20 meters, insane) is one thing, but don’t forget marking/contesting. They really need to have good leg muscles to be able to jump high and being physically strong to be able to use their bodies in the context.
      The combination of general fitness/stamina/running ability, strength, strength endurance, athleticism and agility is probably unmatched by any sport. Just incredible on all levels what “footy” players have to bring to the table. If the sport had been developed in England or the US instead of Australia/Victoria, Aussie rules would be a big/global sport.

      It's to signal a mark from a kick. This is compromise rules, so there has to be some Australian element otherwise the concept is hollow.

      @irishlongswordboland3114 7 років тому

      A soccer goalkeeper is just a shot stopper where as a gaelic keeper has more of a role in distribution and maintaining posessionThe game is much more high scoring so the more possession you have the more you score usually.Important to note that while this game has elements of gaelic football its not gaelic football this is a hybrid between gaelic and AFL kbk

      This is a compromise-rules exhibition sport called 'International Rules Football' played between Ireland and Australian, that creates a hybrid of both countries' national sports; Gaelic and Australian Rules football.
      Both sports naturally have three main things in common; 1) No offside rule 2) Throwing is illegal in both sports and 3) Running with the ball requires one to bounce it every so many metres. This means while most of the rules have little in common, they share a similiar 'spirit' of play: fast, free-flowing running, robust body contact, and distance kicking of the ball.
