A shame. Though not a surprise at 90 and a life well-lived.
I met him once in Cape Town. Ran into him quite unexpectedly in a parking garage. My girlfriend at the time saw him coming and ran up to him quite excitedly. Gave the 2 large bodyguards with him a small shock! Despite the odd place and timing he was warm and gracious to us both.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu R.I.P
I am not religious at all!!!! I think religion is over all corrupt. Very few act very Jesus like. This man along with the new Pope are very few that I love and respect. Wished every person that claims to be religious would act and be like this wonderful beautiful man!!! Maybe then none believers like me will come closer to Religion.

Tutu denied the authority of God's Scripture on many key issues and certainly cannot be considered a true Christian, let alone a leader. By the obvious lack of evidence of repentnce, he most likely is now suffering God's eternal wrath in hell.
