  • "[Dora Maar] was one of Picasso’s best-known mistresses…but she was much more," said art collector and filmmaker David Raymond, whose once-beloved photograph are now owned and on view at the Cleveland Museum of Art as part of the exhibition, Forbidden Games: Surrealist and Modernist Photography. Since acquiring the collection, the CMA now boasts the largest grouping of photographs by Maar in the United States - and one of the largest in the world.     Let's get this straight... Dora's double face exposure she did changed art... she then painted it. After showing Pablo the pieces his art began incorporating the look. Because she was a woman in France at that time she was chattle and source material. SHE and SHE alone is the mother of Cubism!

      But Picasso was well on his way to inventing cubism in 1907, which was the year Maar was born. So while she was obviously a substantial and important artist *and* she heavily influenced Picasso, she didn’t invent cubism.
