Whenever I hear this song, I'm instantly transported to the summer when it first aired. My father and I were driving from Alexandria, VA to Casper, WY in the summer of 72. As soon as we hit West Virginia, both ways (meaning coming and going), this song was on EVERY radio station every frigging 5 minutes!!! Dad's long gone now, and I'm not too far behind him, but to this day, when I hear this song, I think of brilliant sunshine, long winding roads, thick green vegetation, beautiful vistas, views from outcrops that stretched to infinity, cool gentle breezes, small towns and hamlets, it was just a beautiful place. So hell yeah, Take Me Home Country Roads!
I was born and raised in W.Va. but I haven't lived there in over 50 years. Nevertheless I will always consider myself a West Virginian, and every time I hear that song (no exceptions) it floods my mind with happy memories of "my home far away" and, of course, causes me to tear up. I'd be willing to bet it has that same effect on thousands of other people.
Oklahoma fans are SOONERS, darlin’ , and we DO NOT wear orange! Lol, this was Oklahoma State. Huge difference. And as a SOONER, I approve this video, cuz it’s always fun when little bro gets his butt kicked.
To see all the support us Mountaineer fans get from all over the world because of this amazing tradition is awesome... God bless every one from around the world and God bless this beautiful state that i have the honor of living in.. Country Roads take me home to the place I live and belong.... WEST BY GOD VIRGINIA!!!!
It amazes me, the entire crowd stays after a big win to sing Country Roads. Every other school, the fans are running for the exit as soon as the win is secured.
I recently attended a Darius Rucker Concert. After the concert was over and the crowd was leaving the venue played this song. In all my years of seeing concerts I have never once heard a crowd start singing like they did to this song. Just relating it has given me Goose Bumps. Loud and Great.
Seeing stuff like this literally brings a tear to my eye and gives me hope for people. It's really too bad not everyone gets the opportunity to experience things like this. If people in the world could experience togetherness such as this the whole planet and human experience would be different and 90% of the differences humans have would be non-existent. Its truly truly amazing how powerful a single song can be
I am sort of jealous that John Denver did not write a great song about my great state of Texas! Enjoy West Virginia, it is a beautiful song that is befitting of a beautiful state!
I think alot of states have song written about them but none more perfect then this I'm from California but there are so many songs about California los angels san Francisco that doesnt apply to every one in California but country roads I've been to west Virginia and it's for everyone who lived lives and will live there it's such a beautiful perfect song
That is such an amazing tradition! I'm not from West Virginia, but I love to see this sort of tradition at the end of a ball game! At the end of Stanford games, we get to watch a weird band and a scary tree. I'd love to visit West Virginia just to hear this song after a game! Maybe WV can play Stanford. Bring some WV residents too. It would be nice if sensible people could replace our crazy left-wing politicians in California.
😂😂😂😂 no sure didnt. We love each other. Fight each other. In a crisis we got each other's backs. Cant say that about any other state i have every lived in. Was born here. Lived all over nc, va stayed in tn short while was gonna buy a house in McCoy / Hatfield territory..... didn't feel right, the people wasn't ......."right" for my soul. Here i am, in WV. Been here for 15 years.
I'm from New Mexico and this always hits my feels because I moved to San Antonio and I too miss the mountains I grew up with and in. The Rio Grande... Lol even country back roads.
You know I said no more natural disasters! Oh wait it’s a meteor and a tsunami and a tornado. What could go wrong! *50 meteors come in on west virginia*
I would love to go to the school, I'm a wvu sports fan and have been to several games over the years, but I live in delaware and the out of state tuition is just too damn much for me, so university of Delaware here I come
Question from a Texan...curious ....have y'all ever sang it without John Denver...it is a sentimental song for many of us...just thinking if y'all belted out by yourselves might sound powerful as well...oh well...great tradition in Morgantown
