Sometimes musical acts don't always pair up so well and you're left wondering how someone could have thought that it would work, but this seriously worked, what a joy to hear, love it! Love Billy Joel and Boyz to Men.
Definitely true about a lot of acts not pairing up well. The advantage Billy Joel has is such a wide variety of styles between albums that basically anything other than opera or rap could find a place in one of his shows like this. It’s a credit to his diversity of writing and creativity.
So amazing to see this, I think after Billy saw them sing this on Howard Sterns show about Billy Joel, he said to himself "I gotta get these guys on the road with me".
At first, I thought it was an interesting key to have the song, but wow, what a fantastic performance. I love it. This is one of my all time favorite Billy Joel songs.
Much thanks for posting this! Philly's own Boys II Men providing excellent background vocals on this great song. Some casual music listeners might not know that on the original record, that's Mr. William Joel singing lead and ALL the background vocals(which is something I still shake my head in amazement at!) . This feat was something a fellow piano man named Ray Charles did almost 20 years earlier on a record called "I Believe To My Soul"-as he sang all the backing female vocals of the Raylettes. I've never been fortunate to see Long Island's favorite son live in person-although thanks to the excellent dvd "Live at Shea Stadium" & the various live gems I've been discovering here on youtube- everythings good on this end. I remember an old interview where he said that he never liked bullies-hence the reason he always says to the crowd before exiting the stage, to remember not to take any bs from nobody-which is a credo I believe in as well. Mr. Joel's music and lyrics have always been for me about qualities that bring people together instead of what seperates them. And for that reason alone I think we need his music now more than ever.
Hate to burst your bubble but even though BJ grew up on Long Island I don't think of him as a Long Islander. I think of him as a Bronx boy because he was born there, and I hadn't realized he grew up on LI. But LIers sure love him and he loves LI too.
Not trying to be too personal, but i'd love to know what neighborhood in the Bronx? Also, he does identify as being from long island, and I understand that his family moved to long island when he was really young, so... I think Billy Joel being an islander feels right.
I didn't know he sang all the vocals but that's a cool fact. My mom used to listen to him when I was a child and I enjoy his music still today. I thought break my stride was his but I turns out it's Matthew Wilder I think. Still great music though. I think just the way you are is classic.
hahaha Perhaps. So what you are saying they took a tripod to the show.Seems like a hassle too me.Chicks don't even like taking their pocketbooks into shows
I love how Shawn points to Wanya and gives him the "cut off sign" at about 2:33. He could tell Wanya was about to belt something out and of course, you can't let Wanya out sing Bill Joel at his own concert!
Nothing but respect right there. You could tell what it meant to each one them. To hold back In that moment is fn incredible. One of the best six min I’ve ever spent. (Listen #4)
This video seems so amazing and genuine. It looked like they were all having a great time. It didn't seem rehearsed or just for show. It looked like a couple of dudes jamming out.
One of the Greatest Singers Ever. Also one of the Greatest Songwriters Ever. Also one of the Greatest Piano Players Ever. Raw Pure Craftfully Orchestrated Soulful Rocking Music. The definition of Phenomenal Artistic Talent.. Genius.
All the youngins who dont know,, when Billy Joel wrote this song back in the 80s ,, he actually sang every part of the song and they blended it into the masterpiece it became, !
+DETETIVE SANTOS Detective santos? More like Detective Salty. Oh and when he was young am I the only one that though Billy looked like Sylvester Stallone?
TheFlipendo101 I don't get your joke. I LIVE IN A CITY CALLED SANTOS and I am a POLICE OFFICER - (DETECTIVE) which is spelled "Detetive" in Portuguese, and my town is SANTOS (I changed my name awhile back as I am Promo'ing a company for extra cash) but...You're an idiot.
What a wonderful surprise! Billy, you've solidified why Philly loves you so much! Boyz II Men were perfect for this performance! I also love how Billy motioned for them to sing "longest". 😂😂❤

Listened to this one, then a live video from 1984. The voice is still incredible.
I like it in a different key. I’m a big fan of this song! Love the Ted Nugent diss at the end. BILLY JOEL!
So amazing to see this, I think after Billy saw them sing this on Howard Sterns show about Billy Joel, he said to himself "I gotta get these guys on the road with me".

JolastikaParanoia Right! Pure garbage. I judge them. They are losers. Lol!

Yeah, but 4 years after posted that, it's 2,000 vs. 28, so I think we're good.

That must’ve been 1983
Close.....It was 2014
These guys are actually better as old men than young boys.

No bass vocal the sound just not there.

That's what it was.
It’s finding wonderful gems like this clip that make me thankful for the internet 💖 Billy Joel is a national treasure
Ain't that the truth?!

Billy is a total legend
@Billy Joel as if 🤣🤣🤣
There is so much joy in all of their voices doing this. It really makes me smile
1 of my favourite....
4 music legends reteach the world what REAL music is, not manufacture beat driven non-sense made for a generation with simple taste
Real music is whatever touches a person’s soul, and every genre has its own value. But this is some very good shit right here.
These guys are awesome!!!
I was at that concert. The whole night was phenomenal.
Four fabulous accapella artists together on one track❤ this world needs this kind of music again.. 👌
All the youngins who dont know,, when Billy Joel wrote this song back in the 80s ,, he actually sang every part of the song and they blended it into the masterpiece it became, !
Just freaking gorgeous!!!
God, they are talented
This song is so unbelievable underrated!
Thanks BJ for the smile on my face everytime I listen to this!
present ted and barney, 20 mins from now ted and barney, and 20 years from now ted and barney..... and slapsgiving 3
I still wonder...How did Billy Joel transform from this young hotshot Long Island and Queens kid...Now he looks like Captain Crunch. lol...
+DETETIVE SANTOS Detective santos? More like Detective Salty. Oh and when he was young am I the only one that though Billy looked like Sylvester Stallone?

What a wonderful surprise! Billy, you've solidified why Philly loves you so much! Boyz II Men were perfect for this performance! I also love how Billy motioned for them to sing "longest". 😂😂❤
I love that boyz 2 men look like handsome dads haha
I love how when Boys II Men are walking off the stage, Mark Rivera and the other guys in Billy's band are rushing over to get a high five in!
This is about as good as I thought it would be when a friend alerted me to the fact that it happened.
This was perfect!
