I went out and bought a pair of skates today, this is the year I learn how to hockey stop at 37 years old 😅 thanks for the videos and inspiration!
Man that is awesome! Get a few hockey buddies to show ya how to stop and you will get it down in no time! Have fun out on those skates. ( we do a lot of pickup games here and even friends who are just learning have a blast when they get the skates laced up, a hockey stick and start scrimmaging.) Hope fun, I'm excited for you!
what a flex to release a video about putting netting up in the hockey rink in your backyard! Love it!
It's always a good day when DIY PETE uploads.
Thanks for following along and have a great weekend!
I've seen a lot of ODRs, and yours is by far my favorite!
Thanks! It's been a fun project :) Hope all is well!
@DIYPETE Three Forks has a pretty nice one at the park, you should check it out sometime.
I've heard about it but haven't been out yet. Will have to take a drive out there sometime. Thanks!
Some Hockeyrink agian! Love it! 😍
Thanks! It is that time of the year! :) Cheers!
Really nice work, Pete! It's looking great! 😃
I don't know why, but I love to cut cable ties with a pin sniper... A little cutter used for electronics stuff! 😂
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And happy holidays!
Thanks! That pin snipper sounds like a satisfying tool to use with the zip ties haha. I will have to give it a try! Have a Merry Christmas to you and your family!
You should make a "ice road" from warming house to the rink. So you don't have to take off you're skates in cold
Thanks! haha that would be cool! It actually packs down a ton and we can sort of skate down it and we just walk up to it in the snow. May have to run the hose down!
So, I don't know anything about snow--if we get 2" in an overnight snow, every school in the county shuts down--probably for 3 days. Anyhoo, my lack of understanding raises a question in my mind: Why is it OK to put the net in front of the warming house all the way to ground? Out by the rink it's rolled up to avoid damage by snow drifts. Why not the same concern by the warming house?
Thanks for watching! The rink netting has more of a tendancy to sag with the 12 feet between the posts. With the warming house, there are eye bolts every 4 feet and bolted into the facia board --- so snow could pull at it a bit, but it is so tight and strong up there that it won't sag much --- and we need to have the net go to the ground since the windows are floor to ceiling style. Cheers!
What do you do for a living to live in Montana…..asking for a friend….
Thanks for watching! We create content, tutorials, courses, and plans to help DIY'ers. Cheers!
freeze some LED's that would be dope 😝
The LED's are in and I'll be doing a video on that soon! Cheers!
I can just see your mind spinning on how you can get a wall for checking.
And you get 60MPH winds!
haha I dream of living in town some days where I wouldn't have a wind tunnel running through the yard! But also wouldn't change it haha. Lots of stakes and good to go!
The rink keeps getting better! Just north of you up here in Alberta and we finally got snow today for the first time in what feels like months 😅
Hoping January’s cold enough for our ODRs to finally stay frozen!
Glad you guys finally got some snow! Hopefully temps cool down to get those Alberta rinks dialed in for the season!
Can’t you just turn it into a soccer field when the season is done so you don’t have to take down the boards and netting every year
Loving all the updates!!!
Thanks John! Without being able to fill it yet I've had a little more time to document each individual step a bit more. Cheers and thanks for watching!
Try this experiment when rolling the net up off the ground. Make the roll bulge on the inside toward the rink. That was the roll just might catch the puck.
Hey! Thanks, I will have to give it a shot! :) We honestly barely have any sneak through and have a bank of about 250 pucks haha. I definitely think your idea could help prevent them a little better from falling all the way to the ground though! Thank you!!
We're patiently waiting for it to get cooler here in East Helena. My 6U hockey player is itching for his outdoor rink.
I hope the temps drop soon for ya!
Need Bobcats vs Dinos exhibition on this ice
That'd be fun! Where are the Dinos from?
@DIYPETE University of Calgary
... Canadian Universities compete under the USports banner (4 conferences West, Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic) in hockey former major junior players are eligible
That’s awesome!
so glad to see you back after missing a year. I bet last winter was a long winter not having the rink.
Awesome to hear from you Eric! Thanks man, feels good to be working on the rink again. The knee surgery and taking it easy all winter was hard for me to do for sure! Hope all is well!
I can’t wait until the ice is ready. How’s the weather?
We can't either! It is snowing today and low 30's and the next couple days are hockey rink temps. But after this weekend the highs are in the low 40's for the foreseeable 10 day forecast unfortunately. So still waiting for the highs to decrease. Usually we would be filling about now. I hope the temps are colder where you are!!
