I think everything just sounds better live, not because of the sound quality so much, it's just the feeling you get. You get the beautiful music and the lyrics, but you get to see them in their raw form. You get to kind of see the person's soul and unedited imperfections and. Stuff. Conor Oberst has plenty of those. And they're beautiful.
Once you watch enough performances of youtube you'll find these slight changes he makes to his songs in his live performances and almost wish he'll re-record it it that way. But he does have his shakey moments- it's hard to tell on youtube however.
Erik Skaldeman if you've ever been hooked on drugs, there is a beginning stage where the drugs are helping you with your problems but a later stage where they don't. That's what the line is referring to.
His voice and piano skills aren't as good as I thought they were (from listening to the CD). From this video, I'm led to believe he's not as good live as he is on his record! I love the song on the CD, though.

The crowd looked European...come to find out "Hovefestivalen, Norway, 28-06-07"
I agree. ^w^
Besides, if all singers sang and performed the same way, we wouldn't be subjected to Conor Oberst's poetic songs.
@andrewptob sorry no choir, I anticipated a choir, but it's Andy Lemaster (now it's overhead etc. also consistent producer of conor's)
What are the lyrics for the back-up vocals during the chorus? Can't seem to find this anywhere.
Moving out?
I love the white stri....I mean..BRight eyes!
Man, Andy Lemaster kicks ass.
Great
what do the back vocals Say
yes that is andy lemaster
@andrewptob its Andy Lemaster
Who's doing the back-up vocals? Is that Walcott?
Is that right?
My mistake then.
final?
:(
@andrewptob
A choir and Lemaster
I like turtles.
Although we all love this song to death we can't help but ask ourselves: how can a sedative mean well?

doctors. doctors mean well. 90% of them don't even know the kind of evil that's in the pharmaceutical industry... I think that's what he meant
By attempting to fulfill its purpose- sedate and calm you? Just a shot in the dark.
Pearl jam why go philly
