The complete erasure of Carlos Sainz' work developing the Xsara WRC and Polo WRC cars is insane yet unsurprising considering the "Britishness" of this whole operation. BEFORE SAINZ (2002 WRC), the Xsara WRC (or Xsara T4) was a great one-trick pony kind of car. It was fantastic and reliable... but only on asphalt. Whenever the car was on dirt and such, it wasn't as competitive (they got 3rd and 5th in Kenya thanks to reliability). You add a full off-season with Sainz working his ass off and the Xsara WRC became the World-beater everyone remembers. The Polo WRC is basically Sainz' work end to end, which is rather unsurprising considering the end result. Volkswagen won it all on their debut year (something that hasn't happened before or since), won 10 out of 13 rounds (Loeb won 2 of the remaining ones) and at least a podium in all rounds except the ADAC Rally Deutschland.

The F2 cars were absolutely awesome, the French boys do know their stuff with Rally, I always remember Panizzi dominating on tarmac and being so confident to pull donuts at Spain to entertain the crowd mid stage, then the domination of Loeb. I have to say either the 206 WRC or the 406 maxi are my favourites.
Although it's dlc for a game I have no personal interest in, I Love these history pieces you do and would love more, I know this is mainly a gaming channel. But your clear love for motorsport shines through when you talk about this stuff.

Then you'll miss the golden years of rallying. Rally nowadays, well since 2007-8 and onwards is nothing compared to what it was from the eighties to early 2000.

Cant wait for the DLC, EA WRC is my favourite game at the moment, almost 700 hours clocked since launch and if there were 2 cars I really wanted in the game, it was the DS3 and the Polo. Love that the Xsara kit car is in the DLC as well

Great video. Growing up in the 90s in the UK those F2 kit cars are probably the coolest cars ever to grace the WRC. I remember having a Megane Maxi scalextric car, those were the days 😢

Great narrative to the content, very well made and really shows your love of it. I was lucky enough to be in Catalunya for Loeb's win and it really felt like a special rally just being there. I'm interested in the new stages and cars and I really appreciate proper content drops like this expanding existing countries and creating the 2012-2016 class (one of my favourite eras in recent WRC)....... but the fact it won't be integrated or used at all in the career mode is just a lack of design/planning foresight that I will not understand. Compared to DR2, which was simple but incredibly varied, the EA WRC career mode has killed my interest in spending prolonged periods of time with the game. You asked about WRC too... I'm a big rallying fan and lucky enough to have seen plenty of it around Europe in the last decade. It was the VW v DS3 v Mini v Fiesta year that made me visit north Wales for first in-person round since the '90s and I was instantly hooked again. For me, as a spectator, it's simply unbeatable as a sport, whether it's tarmac (Ypres is my favourite to visit), gravel or snow. Sadly, the promotion of it since VW left has really suffered and it feels like they've fallen down the paywall and content gating which has impacted MotoGP and other sports like rugby; they've failed to convert to a mainstream audience in the digital age and they've messed up the latest set of regulations to the point where I think the sport will be dead by the end of the decade. The end of the last regs was the time to switch to the booming R5 class that had five or six top cars, similar to how the 2012 rules brought BMW (Mini), VW and Hyundai in. They didn't, and now they're paying the price, with expensive cars and such a big gap from Rally2 to 1 that only the blessed can afford it; one manufacturer departure away from complete obscurity. Rallying itself though..... the ERC is doing a decent job and some national series are flourishing, but its fading from the conscience of a lot of nations and only really France, Finland, Japan (thanks to Toyota) and maybe Ireland have any sort of investment in young drivers these days. The next great Brit, Spaniard, Italian, Belgian, Scandinavian or Eastern European... would need a private backer with unlimited pockets to stand a chance.

@TraxionGG I feel like endurance is doing well despite the ACO, rather than because of it. They were forced to take SRO's popular GT rules and IMSA's popular DPi/LMDh rules, each of those series has removed all the paywall barrier to watch...... I'm not confident of future golden eras, but the Rally2 market is still doing well, the vintage scene is strong (see you at the Roger Albert Clark?) and I can enjoy fancam footage of icy Monte Carlo sections until the cows come home. That fan driven content on UA-cam is one of rallying's best selling points to me - if I need to pique a casual interest in the sport, I wouldn't go near official footage but the stage-side videos from Sweden, Czech Republic, France or Finland
Although I do have EA WRC and is nice there is a new DLC for the game, I have been much more involved in regular SIM racing games and also do not follow real Rally racing. That said, I will try any Rally Stage using any vehicle, I have no favorites. Your video is awesome about the game and the real world Rally. I need to check out how much the DLC is and will probably get it sometime in the near future. You also look like a pretty good Rally game driver. Thanks for the video and take care.
Great storytelling and editting absolutely loved it. You are missing however the big elephant in the room. There is no Loeb in this French Rally DLC. Only his codrivers name appears on the sidewindow. If this is a license issue why was he the ambassador of WRC10? His name was in the early dlc notes Ogier and Loeb were going to be Les Maestros. A non French speaking person just removed his name and a "s". Leaving us with the strange wrong name Le Maestros. There is something fishy going on and it doesn't smell good. 😕

We asked EA for clarification on it and essentially, the answer was that licenses for drivers names were down to individual agreements. @TraxionGG It is very strange because I just checked and not only was Loeb The ambassador of WRC10 but he also appears in WRC Generations in legends Citroën Xsara and bonuscars with The Citroën Total Abu Dhabi WRT livery as an official team. Edit: The Fully loaded version of Generations contains Citroën C4 Loeb livery 🤔
Good to see they're still making stuff for EA's WRC "24". - Though, that's the thing, in some cases it's called "WRC 24" and in others just "WRC". That makes me hold out to see how EA handles the franchise. So far there hasn't been an announcement for a "25" or any next one, which EA could easily have forced through. - Perhaps they will make it a bi-annual affair, but I doubt they'll wait 4-5 years, knowing them. - I wouldn't mind if they'd keep making DLC-expansions for the next 4 years or so, because there's no reason for them to make a newer standalone. I mean, the original 'Dirt Rally' still holds up and that's a decade old right now. - Besides, the "Mixed" rating on Steam doesn't inspire confidence, with even the positive reviews repeatedly making remarks like "it's not perfect / it has issues". - Why would I invest in that?... And also Unreal Engine... I'm so tired of Unreal Engine. - Also Denuvo... Why?... (That makes me not even able to play it, btw, cause Linux, which is king. The original even got a Linux-port by Feral, which is the best kind of support.) - Good video, though, but I'll wait another year or two at least to see if anything improves.

@AmbientMike I cannot believe you're even writing this, that is not the case. A lot of the sim racing community have triples and use VR. For me to play WRC I need to change the ini file so it doesn't look as stretched across my triples. That's annoying, and it's not proper triple support. It looks rubbish. So a game I've purchased I end up not playing. Don't defend their laziness to provide a basic feature that should be there from the start, in any sim racing title. It's easier for them to milk the cash cow of DLC than actually care about the product, and deliver what they stated would be delivered when they were on the pre release hype train. It then got waylaid, and never actually implemented. The VR support that's their now is awful, and no triples. It's a bad joke. If you're on a flat or curved single screen, and don't want VR I'm sure it's okay for you, but they excluded a large chunk of the sim racing community, not a small part, and took our money on a promise triple and VR support would be properly added. It's annoying to see DLC put first as a priority. I wonder why..

A large proportion of their customers use triples and VR. It is not as niche as you think it is, or sim racing titles and hardware would not exist, and continue to be developed on the scale it does. Just because in your world you probably use a controller with your TV set miles away from your couch, and that may be the majority of the EA WRC market, but you are way off the mark with this, as there is a lot of published feedback, and people I personally know and race with that use triples and VR, who have paid for this game and abandoned it as it is nearly unplayable using triples and VR. WRC should support this. Why are you defending EA sports?
@exponentialbet6292 I'm apparently alot more informed than you are about the state of the industry. Get out of your own bias. I get that YOU enjoy VR and are passionate about it. That doesn't mean you aren't the minority. And as much as you want to make up your own narrative, I'm also a hardcore sim racer, just one who's a bit less blinded by their hobby.
Still not convinced quite yet though. Don't like Denuvo, and Unreal Engine stutters, plus it has EAs stench all over it... If they get rid of Denuvo, I'll consider it
The stutters have gone for me now, and I was getting it quite bad at the start and every time the game updated. I’m on a RTX 4060TI and 5700X, 32GB ram. Game works fine now on ultra settings at 1440p. No stutters any more.
@@jamiehicken The stutters are generally caused by shader compilation as you drive stages, it's particularly noticeable in UE games. If the game gets updated, shaders are some times deleted and regenerated again as you play. They will go away after some time, but it still means each time you play a stage for the first time, it'll stutter.
@@TraxionGG It does have a very flat look to the textures and lighting,, as well as a lot of motion blur and TAA softness... Looks dated, almost as dated as WRC 6 or 7 (and performs about as poorly)

I mean, the original 'Dirt Rally' still holds up and that's a decade old right now. - Besides, the "Mixed" rating on Steam doesn't inspire confidence, with even the positive reviews repeatedly making remarks like "it's not perfect / it has issues". - Why would I invest in that?... And also Unreal Engine... I'm so tired of Unreal Engine. - Also Denuvo... Why?... (That makes me not even able to play it, btw, cause Linux, which is king. The original even got a Linux-port by Feral, which is the best kind of support.) - Good video, though, but I'll wait another year or two at least to see if anything improves.

It wont be fixed. Codemasters laid off a lot of devs last Jan 2024. They have not hired since. EA is killing it.

I'd have preferred time spent on triple support and proper VR implementation.
But that would only be for a tiny part of the community.
@AmbientMike I cannot believe you're even writing this, that is not the case. A lot of the sim racing community have triples and use VR. For me to play WRC I need to change the ini file so it doesn't look as stretched across my triples. That's annoying, and it's not proper triple support. It looks rubbish. So a game I've purchased I end up not playing. Don't defend their laziness to provide a basic feature that should be there from the start, in any sim racing title. It's easier for them to milk the cash cow of DLC than actually care about the product, and deliver what they stated would be delivered when they were on the pre release hype train. It then got waylaid, and never actually implemented. The VR support that's their now is awful, and no triples. It's a bad joke. If you're on a flat or curved single screen, and don't want VR I'm sure it's okay for you, but they excluded a large chunk of the sim racing community, not a small part, and took our money on a promise triple and VR support would be properly added. It's annoying to see DLC put first as a priority. I wonder why..

A large proportion of their customers use triples and VR. It is not as niche as you think it is, or sim racing titles and hardware would not exist, and continue to be developed on the scale it does. Just because in your world you probably use a controller with your TV set miles away from your couch, and that may be the majority of the EA WRC market, but you are way off the mark with this, as there is a lot of published feedback, and people I personally know and race with that use triples and VR, who have paid for this game and abandoned it as it is nearly unplayable using triples and VR. WRC should support this. Why are you defending EA sports?

Get out of your own bias. I get that YOU enjoy VR and are passionate about it. That doesn't mean you aren't the minority.
And as much as you want to make up your own narrative, I'm also a hardcore sim racer, just one who's a bit less blinded by their hobby.
The current WRC is in big trouble. It desperately needs new manufacturers and teams to come in but there's no sign of that so far

The stutters have gone for me now, and I was getting it quite bad at the start and every time the game updated. I’m on a RTX 4060TI and 5700X, 32GB ram. Game works fine now on ultra settings at 1440p. No stutters any more.
Fair enough - the stutters don't appear for us anymore, although the visuals are still a bit 'odd'.
@@jamiehicken The stutters are generally caused by shader compilation as you drive stages, it's particularly noticeable in UE games. If the game gets updated, shaders are some times deleted and regenerated again as you play. They will go away after some time, but it still means each time you play a stage for the first time, it'll stutter.

@@TraxionGG It does have a very flat look to the textures and lighting,, as well as a lot of motion blur and TAA softness... Looks dated, almost as dated as WRC 6 or 7 (and performs about as poorly)
