I’ve started playing shen mid very low elo and is super fun. Needs some practice with difficult match ups but playing safe is very rewarding. The only problem I’m facing is that sometimes my teammates run away from combat when I ult them and is very frustrating because if I was in E range we could get the kill. But I’m trying to be more patient and to play around the best player and deny the shutdowns like master Petu says.
I completely agree with what you said about the holistic approach to building Shen. Yes, he can build everything. However, the feeling of everything doesn't feel great. It's been a lot harder to find that build that feels like an extension of Shen this season. There are certainly items that feel fun, but I haven't quite found that "Zen" build. Honestly, I don't think we'll "Solve" Shen in Season 13 with it's current rotation of items. Flexibility will be king.
I played 5 games today, won all of them and had a big impact in doing that, I built 4 different mythics, 3 types of boots, and a variety of legendaries. The only common factor between all games was bamis cinder. I really enjoy it tbh.
Teemo went from 1/2/1 to 3/2/2 in a couple of minuts purely becasue you used his shrooms to take the enemy down alone xD best teammate that Teemo could ever ask for

Hey petu. Idk if you've tried it, but another shen main and I have had a lot of luck in preseason with phase rush mid shen. We find that you don't need the sustain from grasp against most mid laners, second wind and good shield management is enough, and the phase rush allows for easy escape when the jg ganks.
I've just realized I've been missing a slew of xpetu content by skipping these hour long vids. Great content my guy! Really liked the explanation on the quality that cannot be named, I had the concept in my head but couldn't put it into words.

I will never be able to escape the humiliating thought of my enemy having an academic monologue about holistic patterns defining the perfectly balanced build while casually stomping me in gold elo.
I'm a shen main as well and I agree partly with what you said with the HS build. For my 1v9 carries that's my go to build. That build only really works with pop offs. When I know I'm popping off I'll rush lucidity/bami into Hs into titanic into sufire into demonic into gargoyles/chains. It's a super strong/greedy build that needs a huge lead to work. However from my experience, with this build, game usually ends before second item is even built.
Was not expecting a deep philosophical discussion on quality, perception and architecture in my Shen gameplay vid. Something you should look up (assuming you don't know this already) is the concept of qualia and the area of phenomenology. I think you'd find it very interesting.
