Just wanted to thank you for the video, it worked like a charm. The front doors I had to secure the universal actuator to the inside and work blind but it still worked fine. You saved me a bunch of money so thanks!!!!!
Dude! Thank you so much! You just saved me a major headache and major cash! First one took me about 1.5 hrs and did the second in 30 mins. I also watched the video for the replacement with the real part and this is much easier and costs 95% less. Greatly appreciated, Sir!
Thanks works great on my 08 impala did both passenger front and rear door in under an hour. With all the rights tools it was easy saved myself $300 spend $13.95 on amazon for 4 actuators.
This I was thinking to do on my 08 silberado driver side rear door but ended up buying the orijinal actuator... now I know it works the way I wanted to do it thanks for sharing my man
Works well on my 2008 Impala. I used the screws that came with it. You need a flexible screwdriver to attach the actuator from inside the door. I wasted some 30 minutes when in the heat of the moment I forgot that unlocking requires two presses on the remote. Altogether took 2 hours including messing around trying to get unlock to work with one press.
Blue wire on actuator - connect to yellow wire on Impala
Green wire on actuator - connect to gray wire on Impala.
Been putting off repairing mine, only one not working so far. Ordered 2 on Amazon. I do this kind of thing at work, so I
was really happy to see I can repair this cheaply. Looking forward to fixing it now. Thanks!
Both rear door lock not operate on my 2008 Impala, parts ordered on Amazon and fixed myself. Work fine. Thanks. At the dealer, parts and labor cost $750. It cost me $47. with Express delivery.
I am looking on Amazon for these parts, to no avail. Do you have the part #? Thanks
Worked for my 2008 malibu. Had to do some creative placement for the front doors, but all were mounted on the outside of the door panel. Thanks man! Nice to lock and unlock all doors for 25 bucks
Do you have the part # and site where you ordered. I'm having difficulty finding. Thank you

Grr…I Spent the better part of yesterday at the junkyard removing an actuator and went to go watch a video on how to install it and yours popped up!
Helped me a lot. I'm in Brazil. I bought an Impala LS 2008 of the US Consulate in Rio de Janeiro. I had the locks of bad rear doors. I saw your video and did the same. Thanks.Thanks.Thanks. Rodrigo.
Just did this to the wife's Impala....works great!
I had a different universal actuator than yours, and the wire leads coming from it were different colors........
.....and like you, at first I had it wired backwards!
Mike Hayes my 2008 chevy impala LT wires are different color also. 2- blue, 1- green, 1 purple, 1-brown. can you help me don't know what wires to cut and connect my name is Norma email address njsretired33@gmail.com
I just finished the job on all 4 doors front and rear, Ebay has a micro actuator for 6.99 each they are smaller and easier to fit on the front and with a little ingenuity you can make them work, Im not much of a teacher but I will try to post a video and show you how I did it, they work great and as good as new. Mine is a 2009 Impala. if you got this far take off the door pads and look you will see how to fit them. its not really complicated. good luck.
Mr. Will Peterson you make an extremely through UA-cam vid. Impressive. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the video i just did both rear doors in about 2hrs and 15 minutes ..dont use the screws provided to secure the actuator ..go buy some 2"long #6_32 screws and nuts ..this will save u a ton of time
did you secure the longer screws from the outside and put the nuts on the inside then?
thanks for quick response. years ago I put a set on a an that didnt have power locks and didn't last a year
Thank-you so much for sharing this! I did the first rear door in about 4 hours because of the time it took me to locate/gather tools. The second rear door was done in about an hour. Now I'm working on the front driver's door and trying to figure out where to install the new actuator... and decide whether to put the original back in (as I already removed it) or to try to get the new Amazon version to replace the orig.
I really appreciate all the information you provided. :-)
Thank you man, u save me couple 100's, nice video.
Worked great! Both of the rears in my 2009 impala had crapped out and they can't practically be hand operated.
Thank you so very much, I ordered a 4 pack and with bolts and nuts I'm still under $5/door for the fix. 1st door done, 3 more to go. Green to light green/yellow, Blue to Tan. Overall took more time to gather up the tools and remove the panel than to wire, test and solder connections and drill/mount actuator.
In my 2008 Impala it was Grey to green and Tan to blue. The car green wire did not provide power; it was the grey wire.
I can't seem to find these actuators everybody is talking about online? anybody have a link?
Dude you done a etty good job good job and informational you were very helpfull...if i might be as bold as to say that piece you removed was to keep the lock rod from rattling and i hates me a rattlin vehicle...but i liked your video even though i will get the factory style from a repuable place like 1a auto or car parts...you are 100% right about 2 or 2 and a half for all 4 i just like factory and when i go outside that i put bigger speakers or something like that.....but i just wanted to say even though i dont agree with those cheap parts you done a VERY VERY VERY GOOD JOB in your dwtailed explaniation and i also underatand sometimea you got to do what you got to do so Thanks ...cause i may use or may use in future
Purchased 2 of these actuators one year ago and decided to install one today. I have had this door apart before trying to repair the door lock. I mounted the new part and then tried to do the wiring. First of all my wiring is black, brown, orange, green with a black stripe, and gray. The only way the new actuator would work was by connecting the gray and the green/black. One way the door would open but not close. I reversed the wires and then it would close but not open. Wasted two and a half hours of my time for nothing. Thinking about buying the original part because the frustration of this is far worse than spending more money.
Dealer wants $350 per door. Well that's not gonna happen. Thx for posting.
Thanks! And good call reminding me to roll window back up haha.
In front door you can jury rig a mount using the strap included with actuators. Secure strap to top of the large opening with two sheet metal screw (into drilled holes). Bend strap in slightly and mount actuator vertically onto the strap. Remove foam piece that would cover it. This should help actuator clear the door panel when that is put back.
On the '09 Impala LT the passenger rear wire lock wire colors from the relays are gray and tan, with new actuator's green going to the gray. As others have mentioned, these were the two thickest wires. These wire colors probably are the same in the other doors, but I haven't checked yet. For those like me who may not observe the video closely, the wires we want are going DOWN...I also appreciate your attention to which insulation pieces have to be removed to make this fit.
Job done in 3 and a half hours. Thanks
Works great on rear doors, front doors require a little modification of the door. Also wire colors on mine were tan and gray. Green to tan and blue to gray. Look for the two slightly larger wires.
Anybody else struggle with the rod? I can't get the right angle so it will open and close the lock. It either opens or just closes. Can't get it to both
Green to grey, and blue to washed-out pink color on my 09' Impala. It seems they used random colors! But they WERE the 2 slightly larger wires! Thanks!
Quoted $1300 to replace three actuators at the dealership. I'm going to try this out.
Do these work on the front doors as well? Do you have a video doing the front doors?
Put actuator in and connected green to green and blue to yellow. the actuator will unlock but will not lock, am I missing something. Any help would be appreciated.
sounds like one of the wires is correct, but the other isn't. Gotta go with trial and error I guess!
Same exact problem I had, it unlocks but will not lock. Did you figure out the fix to get it to lock?
Same problem I had, it unlocks but will not lock. Did you figure out the fix to get it to lock?
yes it's very true I am a 35 year ASE auto tech. I wish it would work for the front.
Found a new part online for $117. will install that and call it good.
Great video... I was wondering what would be involved when installing this to a truck that doesn't have per installed power locks??? Has anyone seen or installed these on an older auto?
dang chevy just needs to recall this crap. i love my chevys but this lock this sucks.
Any luck doing this on a front door? Driver side specifically.
I just did this today. Did one of the back doors and the front passenger side door. I was able to barely fit it in, right next to the old actuator Inside the door. The rod runs up and out, there’s a rubber fitting around where the rod comes through the door, you can remove it and adjoin the old/new rods together - accessing this through the hole.
Also something to note is that the color of the existing wires is different. I don’t recall which 2 they are but if you look at the 5 wires (it’s not the black so count that one out) the 2 you use are slightly thicker than the others.
where to mount actuator on front doors on Impala????
will this work on a 2015 Impala 2LT?
Should you leave the original actuators connected, or just connect the harness wires to the new actuators only?
My car's locks would unlock and lock very quickly and the radio would also turn off and on I turned on the car any idea why that's happening. It's scares the crap out of me and just want it to stop.
Did anyone else struggle with the rod? I can't get the rod lined up such that it will unlock and lock the door. The lock lever moves up and down but it doesn't to the right spot to open or close the door. I can either get it to open fully or close fully not both at the same time
@@tylerroach6254 once you put the door cover/panel back on, it lines up fine. The little rectangle door lock thing on top of the rod sits in the panel and lines everything up
I something similar installed on my Honda Accord. Worked fine. One day the left rear door lock stopped working. I opened it up and got +/- 10v when switch is opened or closed. Actuator isn't moving. Is the motor shot? How do I check it?
I replaced it and lock is working fine. Thanks.
I dissected the old actuator and found one lead cable broken. Installed new cables and it worked. That will be a spare.
if door lock actuators are bad and have to manually push them down (lock) factory alarm will not set???? So after market actuators won't set alarm???
What is the part number or buyer you bought from..I have a 2008 Impala that the driver and right rear are screwed up....Also is the installation the same for the front and rear?...thanks
Mine grinds in my 04 yet to find a video of what mines doing lol
Is there a video for the fronts Yet?
Sorry, I never did the front ones. Another commenter said that these exact actuators are too bulky for the front, but you can get other ones that fit.
ChaosTheoryBlog hi trying to fix my 2008 chevy impala LT the wires are different colors don't have no yellow wire can you help me
Has any one installed this on the front doors of a 2008 Malibu?
Hi how many relays are needed to wire up 4 door actuators
Will these work on a 2009 malibu?
Go to a ju kyard and get one for free cause it fits in your pocket
Just wondering how you screwed the actuator to the door ...looks like its secured from the inside and is a tight squeeze.im installing all 4 of mine soon .thanks
I figured u did and it would be a pain..is there any room to mount it inside the door frame and screw it from the outside
I was thinking about getting some long bolts and nuts so i dont have to get a screwdriver in the backside of the door
Josh Landrum I used a short screwdriver, as the screws are meant to go into the body of the actuator. It's a pain, but you're only putting in 2. Most tool shops sell a short hex bit holder that's even shorter than most short screw drivers. Look for one that will attach to a 1/4 inch rachet.
Link to parts?
I just bought a 2008 impala. dangit they didn't fix it yet! concern that the remote start may not work since you have to lock the doors first? Anybody have experience with this? Thanks!
My 2003 sonoma doesnt have power lock,i lock it manually, can i install this on it?is there a video on it somewhere?
You would need a separate kit, unfortunately this video only works if you already have the power cables running to the door lock.
so shal i go with remote central locking which costs me only 1000 inr otherwise with actuators remote locking costs me like rs 2.5k
What is the bracket looking piece used for that came with the actuator? It's metallic looking and has 6 oval shaped holes in it.
EDIT: I figured it out! It can be used as a "guide" for the original lock rod. If you run the rod through one of the oval holes, it forces the rod to stay in the vertical line.
How did you know which wire to connect the wire in the lock actuator?
hi sir i got ford endeavour it has central locking where when i push the lock in the driver side of the door all the door gets locked i m thinking of going with remote central locking so for that do i need actuators along with it or do i already have the actuators for all the doors
What about if you push the button on the remote and 2 of the four doors lock/unlock and it is random. is that still the actuators?
If you repeatedly lock and unlock them multiple times, do they sort of "fade out" and quit working all together after a few times? If so, It's definitely the actuator
it is a car we are looking to buy. We push the lock on the key fob the back doors would lock...we push the lock on the inside of door and nothing locks (2nd time)...the driver door NEVER locked and same with passenger..also if it matters it's a state car with parts of the police package
Probably. I only performed this solution on the rear two doors. Another commenter says this solution will not work on the front doors, but I haven't confirmed it. Driver door doesn't matter so much since you can open easily with key.
Can disconnect
It doesn't work very well in 2012 Impala.
hi
i have opel austra f 1994 and i lock and unlock every time with key from driver side when i open driver side lock all window is unlocked . as i am new driver i dont know this system. in my mind somthing that if i install door lock activator to driver side which is operating with wireless key remote then this can same work as manual or not ? please help me i need just lock and unlock i dnt need indicating light . thanks
plz reply me with details thans.
i every thing understand in this video but how to connect remote with this activator.
thanks again and reply me
+Tariq Shahzad Rana The actuator itself does not connect to the remote. The actuator is a very simple motor only. The "receiver" for the remote signal is elsewhere in the car. In my example, the remote still functioned correctly, the car still received the signal correctly, and was still sending electricity to the actuator, but the actuator was broken.
+ChaosTheoryBlog ok nice . then have u any idea for me what cn i do whith cheap amount
Front doors (and some more information): ua-cam.com/video/bi_pTzrwmWg/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/iLb8IyncV6Q/v-deo.html
This workes for the rear but not the front
the only to fix it that I found is the original it can be gotten as aftermarket, but these universals work flawless on the rear.
my wires are different colors don't know what wires to connect can you tell me how to fix it somebody
Unfortunately the best thing is to guess and check, try various wire combinations until it works
Just replaced on two front doors of 07 impala and now my radio and dash lights will not turn off when turn car off and open door. Also, dome light no longer turns on when driver door open but will when passenger door open. All worked just fine before replaced actuators. Anyone have thoughts on resolution?
So I have the same problem. I am thinking about going down this road but I am wondering if these universal actuators last very long? @ChaosTheoryBlog are yours still working?
I actually JUST had one of the ones I replaced fail. So it lasted ~2.5 years.
Great video!
Removing the front door panel (rear similar): ua-cam.com/video/GRaPuM0JVIo/v-deo.html
I found a neat way to mount the actuator in the front doors, I'll upload a video later.
Lol that looks so shitty.
Cause Chevrolet sucks and installing cheap better actuators proves it....lolol
There is something I noticed that nobody mentioned. You will no longer be able to use the key if you're somewhere and the fob dies. Am I the only one having this issue?
That's strange, the key still works for me. Although maybe you have to turn it a bit harder to "fight" against the new motor? But I haven't noticed any difference and still use my key.
I just did all 4 doors with these actuators BUT on the front doors I had to mount the actuators on the inside part of the door. Doing it like that only made it slightly more difficult. Still a fairly simple job. Took me 3 to 4 hours to do all of the doors. I took pictures of how I mounted the ones in the front doors. Now I just need to figure out a way to share these pictures to the public. Thank you for this video! Helped me out and saved me money!!
