  • Why don't honey bees visit the flowers you plant in your own yard when other pollinators do?
The answer may be that there just aren't enough blossoms with pollen and nectar to get the attention of honeybees.
Honey Bees practice floral constancy which means that they visit a single floral species on a foraging flight. This results in many honeybees ignoring blossoms/plants that are existing in smaller numbers while the bees travel a bit further in order to exploit a larger number of suitable plants.
In this video I share what is blooming in the north eastern United States.
Planting resources such as Maximilian Sunflowers will extend the pollen and nectar gathering a little longer than if they were left with asters and golden rod exclusively.
