    I am having a hard time understanding why it doesn't have a center of inversion. Specifically, why isn't the half-way of the bond connecting the two oxygen atoms a center of inversion?

    C2 is along z axis or y axis

      if we look the molecule from the side view, C2 axis is along z axis

    C1 MEANS E. SO C1 DOESNT HAVE ANY REQUIREMENT

      yes correct equivalent. thank you. so you can write either C1 or E. Here I just point out that at C2 axis also we can rotate 360 degree for C1
