- Orlando is the most dangerous place to ride your bicycle in the USA! I've had many people warn me about this before I went here on this holiday. I got some first hand experience of the cycling conditions here in Florida. Not only was I getting yelled at and nearly ran of the road, I also encountered an Alligator in the middle of the bike trail! Great video! Thanks for sharing your family vacation. Brought back memories when my wife and I vacationed in Florida and rode the General James A Van Fleet trail. Also... You are right cycling in Florida can be dangerous because of a few bad people.

That was cool video of you getting to Clearwater Beach. The bridge you went over is one of the few areas in Clearwater to get some elevation. Within a few kilometer south of the beach there two more bridges to go over. I usually call the 3 bridges ride on Strava.

Just found your video. Glad you had a good and safe time. Sorry for the bad drivers. Orlando and Florida in general is very dangerous for riding. I deal with it every day. If you come back I'd be glad to give you some safer routes to use.

Riding in Florida during the summer fill your bottles with ice and electrolytes, the humidity is a lot harder on your body than you think. Also try to avoid solids while riding it’s a lot harder to digest them in the extreme heat.

Florida is quite different to where you normally travel, but actually there are quite a few good trails. My house is over on the west site of florida, the withaloochie trail runs from Ocala down to the Tampa area, in tampa-st pete there are loads of trails, the Pinellas trail runs from St Petersburg up to clearwater and beyond. Have a Nice trip and stay away from the Gators, and snakes.

Happy 30th birthday, you old man (I can say that because I will turn 58 in 2 weeks), and welcome to Florida! LOL. We had some pretty heavy rain saturday morning where I live in central FL. Hope it didn't spoil your Sugarloaf Mt ride. That's about 15 miles south of me, and it looked like it rained there too on the weather radar. That snake on the trail looked like a harmless rat snake.
They got pummel with rain.
It rained the whole ride but didn’t spoil the fun!

You should ride down in the Keys. It's beautiful and there is a path that goes down all the way to the southern end. I started riding my bike (mainly commuting) around Miami, and I didn't find it That dangerous. And yes the humidity is super high. I would drink so much water/gatorade when riding down there.

Great video jasper. What do you have in your recovery shakes?
Usually a “recovery” drink. So electrolytes, high carb and little protein. I use different brands. Look for 2:1 carb vs protein
I live in Weston Florida and there are more that 5 raids of different speed, from very fast to very chill recovery raids every morning. Every single road has a bike line and is an area where there’s not much creazy traffic like in the big cities. If anyone is trying to ride a bike in florida check this places out you will love it ...
Agreed. We also have a lot of gravel riding in South Florida, if that's your thing.
Be careful. Last time I was in Florida had a log truck lock down the trailer as he passed me then made a right hand turn in front of me cutting me off. I'm a nice guy but I was ready to throw down! The beginning of A1A was about as sketchy as I have ever seen on a bike. Traffic was nuts the gutter was filled with glass and god knows what else and there were barricades from construction pinning you in with traffic. Had the gravel bike with 40s and had a great time riding down the beach from basically Amelia Island I think it was down to Daytona Beach. Didn't even mind the 25 mph head wind. One of the best rides ever.
Tearing up those jetskis looked hella fun and dangerous. Glad you didn’t get squashed like frogger on those fl roads.

West FL is much better for riding. I’m from Indiana but take regular training trips to Naples, FL in the winter. There’s a great group and routes there, if you’re looking for a place in FL again check it out!

Question about the fasting. Do you not hit the wall/bonk during your 3hr long rides even when you eat during your Ride? Does your power for the intervals drop from lack of carbs? And what are the benefits of intermittent fasting. Thanks.
If it’s low intensity I don’t find a difference in power. I find my heart rate is lower. It will ride as soon as I start eating during the ride (normal because digestion starts and takes up energy)
I don’t blink if I start eating writhing the first 2,5 hours no matter how long the ride and how long the fast has been

I've been riding at Cold Coast a couple weeks ago. It wasn't that bad and some roads in the city had nice bike lanes but I noticed that almost everyone drives massive cars/utes which doesn't help.
Victoria is pretty good at being a dickhead towards two wheels also. Five of us went to Italy a few years ago and while we were out riding on a Saturday, one of us stated that it was 11 o'clock and we haven't been called pooftas once!!
Also Britain. Because I live there and all the things he says I can relate to.
