Somehow I always find Murakami books by ‘coincidence’ and each time it turns out better than what I expect. I cannot say that I love everything about his writing , I particularly dislike the erotic descriptions ,they feel really depressing and unnecessary. What I love most about his books is perhaps how he handles emptiness and boredom ,as if he understands it so well that he is able to find magic within loneliest moments.

I‘ve finished the book just a moment ago. All I did this week was reading (except for my normal everyday work life).
But somehow I closed the book and asked myself why I loved it so much but as soon as you said it, it clicked: to escape the real world…
This week was my first week back at work since march, because I broke my arm two months ago.
All this time at home I felt a little bit like the main character after the break up with a lot of time just for myself. Taking day by day just as it comes, doing just the things I really wanted. Things for myself without any rules or obligations. But with every sickness like this, you have to get back to work someday again and just in this moment of transition from staying at home, enjoying life like it is and getting back to work I read the two books. And I really felt it somehow, how I needed this as a kind of support to get me through this first week of almost only getting up just to go to work and to deal with the feeling of being trapped by everyday life again…
I know that the book is so much more, but that’s the most important part for me at the moment. Fleeing reality…

First of all, I hope your injury is healing as you wish and that you are feeling much better. Second, thank you so much for your wonderful comment and that you are sharing this. Even if the book is much more, in the end this was all we needed: an escape from reality. Cheers!

My first book of Murakami was A Wild Sheep Chase, more than ten years ago. I have read almost all of his books and have to this day not encountered another author who speaks to me as much as he does. I also read Killing Commendatore recently and for me it took some time to grow on me, but after a while I found the same stream of consciousness as in his other works which leads the reader into a commonly shared psycho-spiritual realm.
Murakami is often linked to Freudian ideas but I want to highlight how intrically linked his stories are to the archetypical imagery of the self and the collective unconscious described so brilliantly by C.G. Jung. Murakamis characters always go through some form of shamanic processes, or heros journeys on which they are confronted with often dangerous tasks that in the end still lead them to a greater integration of their own struggles. His stories feel so real because they truly are, albeit in a way of psychological inner processes.
Phew, okay, just wanted to share my deep and ongoing fascination with his works. Thank you for your channel, really digging it, Murakami is a goldmine :-)

His books have had a profound impact and uncanny timing to parallels in my own life. I loved KC and it is about the 5th book I've read of his. Even though there are similar tropes and themes I've finally realized that that does not bother me as much and they each have there own magical elements. So glad I found him quite by accident or more possibly by the UA-cam algorithm. I will watch more of your videos.

Killing Commendatore was the final of Murakami's novels for me (I have now read all 14 and anxiously await "The City and It's Uncertain Walls" English translation. While KC was not my favorite I totally relate to the 'uncanny timing to parallels' in my own life. The closing chapters in particular, it felt like this was the exact right moment to wrap up my 'Murakami marathon'.

No, Murakami was the one who introduced him to me. Did you know it before?
