    Right before you mentioned the cuts in the wood I was just typing about how cool it is to see the lumber with the rough axe marks in it. Great minds think alike. Every time I go there, that small detail really connects me to those people. You can see the human behind it, just some guy putting in the work.
    I've never associated the names in the cemetery to the people in the town until you mentioned it. I haven't experienced that in many ghost towns; the ability to connect multiple people to multiple locations, with their homes and gravesites both surviving the elements for so long.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  4 місяці тому

      Same! It often seems when we're researching that notable figures end up buried in other states, not the same town cemetery they are associated with.

    Gooseberry Mesa is a popular spot for mountain biking and hiking. It’s actually amazing and the views from the cliffs weren’t too far from that empty lot where you parked. Amazing views on both the north and south side! Come back and do it.

    I did enjoy it, esp. since we were also just there in May, but missed the Grafton area. Thanks for telling the history. We got a lesson from an LDS Sister at another pioneer house, and it was a little different lesson. I was interested to learn from her that the Mormon settlers had to teach the Native Americans how to live more comfortably on their own land.

    I think Glen is right. When we visited in 2021, I remember there being some sort of platform and being able to look in the church windows too!

      I looked through our older footage and indeed there was one in that same year. Red adobe looking that allowed one to look through the right middle window into the building and some information signs. Can't help but wonder what happened to those signs. 🫤

    Check out the Blackhawk War 1865-1872. The Berry Family that is buried at Grafton Cemetery were killed by Indians because of events happening at that time. Possibly connected, but not because of water rights being stolen at Pipe Springs.

    You can take a the Kolob Terrace Road to the north out of the town of Virgin. There is access to Zion park via backpacking/hiking and also The Subway off of that road. By the way the way you are pronouncing "Zion" just lets the local know that you ain't from those parts. Just sayin.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  4 місяці тому

      @@christopherl.albers3842 “the locals” are wrong as well. They often refer to it as “Zions”.

    • @CactusAtlas

      I assume you mean not Utah native than foreign? We're aware of how it is pronounced in Utah, tried it for a while, but it ust didn't feel natural. 🤷‍♀️
