Good evening everyone! Nice wee simple one tonight. By popular request, a video dedicated to rice! 🍚 😁👍 the chilli in the video will be up on the channel next week ❤
Been waiting for this one Cheryl, rice is so hit and miss for me, yet I love it. Hoping your method will hit the spot!
Many thanks lovely lady, your channel is by far the best of its kind on UA-cam. Many imitators out there, but yours is the original and the best! XXX
Thank you Cheryl 😊
Rinsing rice before cooking is *very* important. Not only to remove the excess starch but especially to remove the arsenic!
Oh never knew I could freeze rice. I'm always worried about rice causing food poison when reheating so always throw out any extra so now I will just freeze
It. Thank You
Just make sure it's completely cooled down/cold before freezing :) and store in an air-tight container x
never throw older rice cold rice makes Great fried rice
Wow……great rice…thanks. 🏴👍🏴
You can keep it in fridge overnight. Just thoroughly rinse it before reusing.
Awsome, much appreciated for the how-to video. I wonder if my big issue has been not washing my rice enough at the wrong temperature. I've got my meals planned for this week but I'll be giving this a go next week.
I do so enjoy your videos. I have for a long time. Thank you so much for posting excellent content! Best wishes to you and your family. 😊
Thanks, Cheryl, ill try it next time. Made me chuckle when you said about forking the rice, every time I try to cook it I end up saying "forking rice" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Hi Cheryl thank you for sharing this information so many people need this God bless you all Cathy 🙏🏻✝️☮️🇺🇸
❤️ rice ... Make rice water for hair & face 🙌🏻🥰
Thanku Cheryl,perfect fluffy rice,I will try it 4 sure,thanks
So fluffy. I'm going to try to give it a try. Love ya.
That' looks delicious 👍
So easy too! 😮👍
I learnt this method from Madhur Jaffrey..well known TV chef , she was on TV back in the 1980s ….but no salt and never stir as it creates starch…even after rinsing.
I use her method too since watching her TV show in 1981 or 2 and getting her cook book. Since then I've never had bad rice.
Looks simple enough. I still question my chance of success, but I will give it a try.
Fab thank you will try this on Sunday ❤😊
Hi Cheryl, thanks for sharing your cooking method for Basmati Rice. I must confess that mine always tends to be either undercooked or overcooked & stodgy. I hadn’t heard of ringing in lukewarm water before, always used cold - so maybe that’s where I’m going wrong.🤷 Your chillie looks delicious 😋, I made that for my own tea on Sunday (accompanied by Tilda’s Mexican micro rice) & thoroughly enjoyed it! As always thanks for sharing & take care. xx 👩🏻🍳🍚👌💕💞🩷
Hello There! As the OP says, the 'trick' is to thoroughly rinse your 'dry' rice first before you cook... (It gets rid of most of the starch so you don't get the 'stodgy' result...) xx SF
@@stevesandford1437 Thanks Steve, I do always rinse it under running cold water tap for a good couple of minutes, I’ll try with lukewarm water to see if it makes a difference.👍
Yep it is the rinsing of the rice which helps to fluff it. I do the same with my rice. The basmati I get is not as long grain as yours. I would like to have your basmati.
I used to have a rice cooker…now, it’s a lot more guesswork! I’ll have to try this technique
I know that 3 billion people use a dedicated rice cooker machine and they work great, but for the once or twice per week I cook rice this works perfectly.
(was that a rice cooker paddle you were using to stir it?)
thank you cheryl ...much appreciated
My dad would say I'm just resting my eyes. I say I'm going for a cheeky nap ❤
Very helpful thank you
I have a rice cooker works really good.
Thanks Cheryl.👍😋
Thank you for this.❤😊
Fluffy goodness 😍
Hi Cheryl. Can’t wait to try this. Could I ask, what the ratio for Mayflower curry powder till water is, that you use?
Thanks Sam.
Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊
I cook my Basmati in just the same way, HOWEVER I add a tablespoon of 'Ghee' which is simply regular salted butter at the 'steaming' stage... (NOT as healthy but TASTIER!!!) xx SF
YUM!
Just wondering if I need to alter recipe if I use stock instead of water?
I use a rice cooker and mix 3 different rices!! I cheat lol!! Have a great week!!😂
I buy the microwave rice, as I can never get proper rice right.
My son, on the other hand, gets his perfect.xx
Thanks, Cheryl, but a question if I may? Why do you list your water quantity as (example for 4) 500 + 125ml, instead of simply saying 625ml? Why separate out the 125ml for each batch size you have on your list?
Cheryl thanks for sharing. I have a fool proof way of cooking any sort of rice, it must be fool proof because It works for me 🤣. When I have some spare time, I'll add it this comment and I'd like to see how you get on with it. 🙂😋😎❤
I was persuaded to do rice on Stove as my husband follows recipe where and recipe said cook on Stove.
I eye ball things.
I usually do rice from scratch in micro.
On Stove it was tonight and what a disaster it was husband went oops I did not wash rice a rooky mistake which added to disaster.
I am not to be beaten so will give your way ago as bar not washing rice and leaving it to sit pretty much the same....wish me luck not only in getting it right but persuading husband back in kitchen for round 2.😂
yes very close to my method.
looking at your rice i'd say you wash a bit less/boil a bit more/steam a bit less than how i would traditionally cook.basic principle is the same.
Rice is actually quite hard to judge to perfection.its always earlier th ou thik it needs to be
I thought it was a 2 to 1 ratio, liquid to rice - that's commonly quoted, but your rice looks perfect so I will definitely be trying yours with that tad bit less water (FYI, Gordon Ramsey favours your water to rice ratio, but Jamie Oliver is a 2 to 1 man!)
I must be thick, but I didn't understand the way the water ml measurement was written in each case as 2 measurements of ml added together to achieve the total amount of water (@0:55). What is that equation in each case - why not just state the total amount of water, ie 250ml, 375ml, 625ml etc?
I really hope someone can explain this to the dunce at the back of the class!
I’m trying it, I gave up on it years ago because I kept getting it wrong.
Mine cooked beautifully but was still a bit mushy.
I’ve used this method and retired my rice cooker because the rice comes out better.
A rice cooker in my kitchen is what I use to cook rice in.
I have a rice cooker!
I’ve never used one 😅👍
Canada is metric, the USA is not
Way too much water, looks sticky, not fluffy
It’s very mushy. Sorry and this is not the way u cooking the Basmati Rice ❤️☹️☹️☹️
