My wood boiler is a Johnson and ran for 20 years before the water tank started leaking from rusting out. Do the same thing with buying 800 dollars worth of logs and delivering next to the boiler. Works great heating an old farm house that was built in 1905. Any one saying heat with propane is crazy or lazy. 😊 because it costs 4 grand to heat with propane now. Replacing the boiler will cost me 10 grand but it pays for itself in minimum of 4 years and then hopefully get another 20 years out of the new boiler. 1 piece of advice is to always keep the boiler filled year round with water so it doesn’t get oxygen to start the rusting process and keep the additive in the water. Keep up the great videos and I Love how you praise your wife for working as a team together ❤

The ultimate human benefit of wood heat is the constant temperature and dry heat.

I grew up west of Flint. I remember that Michigan weather. Wanted to be a dairy farmer.....things didn't work out that way. I've spent over 40 years up here in central Maine as a papermaker. Walking off my third generation job at Buick was the smartest thing I did and not just monetarily. Now to what I had to say about the winter weather. Up until about two years ago you could plan on two to three snow storms that were 18 to 24 inches every winter. And normally dry snow. No more. And now we're seeing more rain in the winter. Totally unheard of. My jd 1025 was great up to this point, but now I my need a bucket and not a snowblower. The weather definitely has changed. And as far as the wood is concerned your making out like a bandit. You'd have to pay a lot more here because of the papermills. I'm happy to see your making out good on the price of wood.

Thanks for another great video Kip.
It was interesting and enjoyable to watch.
You wood burning setup works real nice. I had not seen one of those wood burning heat houses before. From all of your facts and figures it does real good dollar wise. Your only work is keeping it filled with wood. It seemed to really be heating up. You keep your garage area and house heated real good with this setup. Overall cost was not too bad.
Thanks for showing us and sharing your cost and all. Nice unit Kip.
Thanks for everything Kip. You take care and be safe.

their is also the independence from a fuel source that could be interrupted. It's nice to have a alternate source of heat like wood.

Hola Kip. Saludos.

Hi Kip, just watched this video & when you were in your "barn" just before you went in the house, we saw a truck under a tarp. What is it ? I see chrome rims. It must be special to you if its under cover. Please show us or at least tell us about it. Thanks, your Canadian neighbor in southern Ontario.

This is unrelated to fire wood and wood burning furnace. Has you operation / farm ever considered grain sorghum silage as a alternative to corn silage? Would be curious about your opinion. The seed price and pesticide requirements are less than corn. I enjoy your videos keep it up. God bless

Wood heat is the best if you have the time to deal with it we have a wood stove and we love it but when you have to cut the wood to a 20 inch size and have to split it and stack it by your self its not worth it propane is cheaper and easier because

Yes, it’s worth it if the wood is free. Then all you have to purchase is gas and oil and your time to cut it into the dimensions you need.
