I wish James Taylor would cover this.
His originals are some of his best songs. Hardware Store is another amazing original.
I don’t know how he can sing that song. It’s amazing.
@@bigorange2082 the record is sped up
@@JaanusSaarErm proof 🤓☝️
I want them to play this song at my funeral. :D
I'll be there clapping to the beat before I'm beaten to death
I want them to play this at Mr. Fender's funeral.
Yes! Me too! 🤘🏻Al is a musical genius!
nah ill be playin twister instead
He is certainly a unique talent who deserves to have the greatest professional success ever these days.
mys
Deep cut from Even Worse. For some reason my parents were offended and didn't like listening to it. Those were the good old days
This song reminds me of scout camp in summer 88...
Friend had this on a cassette tape and we over and over and over haha
Those Were The Good Old Days :-)
Back in scouts, we'd be in the woods, sitting around the campfire at night, and in the middle of doing stupid skits we would always end up singing Weird Al songs. It was a lot of fun.
One time on a Scout trip to Minnesota, me and my friend listened to Weird Al on his iPod the whole way there. Those were the Good Ol’ Days.
This has to be the darkest song Al's ever written. I Remember Larry would be number two.
The end of Melanie is pretty dark. He commits suicide!
The Night Santa Went Crazy has to be up there as well, as well as One More Minute and You Don't Love Me Anymore, oh and Why Does This Always Happen To Me and Christmas At Ground Zero. Quite a few really.
The man is brilliant.
wow does he ever have a deep natural talking voice..
The first weird al song I memorized and still remember word for word lol
lol love this and melanie
This song has stuck in my head ever since I first heard it nearly thirty years ago. Weird Al has hit the mark with so many of his songs, but this particular one, for some reason, has always resonated with me.
All of my favorite Al songs are originals. This one, You Don't Love Me Anymore, Gotta Boogie and One More Minute. Everything he does is wonderful, of course, but for some reason his originals tend to stick with me.
Dare to be stupid?
I love nature trail to hell.
the night santa went crazy
The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota (which I have visited!)
Everything you know is wrong
"when I bashed in head, well you should've seen the look on his face"... outstanding
Mr. Fender's widow thumbed down.
I guess Michelle made it out 'cause she thumbed down as well.
Zero people dislike Weird Al.
Prince was having none of it. 😢
He listens to his recordings, you can tell. He nails it.
Enjoying to good old music days of my teen years as I was in the hospital catching up on much needed rest and having my medical list revisited. A long haul but I'm much better.
Its my life's story.
I think I'll tell my girl, "You're fun to talk to and nice to smell."
When you do it make sure to open your eyes really wide as you breath heavily. Ladies love that as they scramble for a weapon or a phone.
How do they keep a straight face during this song?
I don't know. I sand the Mr. Fender verse to my high school daughter yesterday and I couldn't keep it in.
It's always easy to tell the casual Weird Al fans from the real ones.
I remember this so well when I was a teen and I am 47!
Classic, I'd listen to that whole album all the time on my old 70s radio alarm clock cassette player as a 90s kid.
got my VIP for this summer, I get to have him sign a lithograph; I'm going to have him sign, "Brian, I used to like you, but now I tell all my friends you're the Antichrist"
holy crap, went to comment . . . apparently I have!
I saw Al and his band perform live and was amazed of how they sounded. Even better than studio recordings.
So good.
Amazing.
My favorite Weird Al song!!
:D
God bless you guys. You make beautiful music in a hundred different flavors, and every single one just gets better every time I hear it.
This inspired me to build my basement
Ruben's like... "I'll just stand here, then."
Has anyone ever thought to check these stories out? This almost sounds like a confession. Well, they do call him Weird Al. ;)
Gotta bring back mtv unplugged
Why? You can't autotune acoustic. :P
Bring back MTV period. What the fuck happened?
@@rafaeltrivino1790 MTV is still around it is just that the MTV of today is a far cry from what it was back in the 80's and 90's.
I completely agree. Pancreas is also good and even on his first album, I enjoy The Check's in the Mail and I'll be Mellow when I'm dead more than Another One Rides the Bus or My Bologna.
Weird Al Yankovic is an American National treasure !!
Yep, he actually has a lot of original songs, despite what some believe. :o
I’ve never listened to his originals and rlly only listened to his music when I was a kid. Super glad I gave this a chance cause it’s brilliant lol. I agree with his originals being better
@@louieo.blevinsmusic4197 At one point I dug up a lot of his stuff from before I was even born on top of what I already knew, so I experienced a lot. lol
and with sociaty as screwed up as it is the song christmas at ground zero is so fitting
@Bridger987 why thank you that clears things up a bit. im used to him doing parodys so when he writes a song from scratch, it's hard to tell. it sucks though, i cant find it on playlist
Not the only one - check out "I remember Larry"
I wonder what would happen if, just for fun, since I'm guessing he thought this was funny, James Taylor decided to sing this , and people who never heard Weird Al's original version were listening. They would think it was a pretty song at first. But then he would sing about spending all day long in the basement, and the people would be like "WTF, James??".
There should be a challenge. (to try and get the original artists to sing versions of some of Weird Al's style parodies)
Also, someone should make a parody of this, about how Weird Al's songs used to be family friendly,, compared to his songs like Word Crimes that have innuendos in them.
Many singers plug one ear so that they can juxtapose their "head voice" with the voice in the monitor, to help them sing in key.. Al may be kind of doing it in a joking manner though..
I don't think the lyrics are made up. Maybe a confession XD
Damn! Jim West rulz!!!
*+ScrewYootoobPolicies* You apparently never heard "Mr. Frump and His Iron Lung", "Nature Trail to Hell", "Christmas at Ground Zero", either version of "The Night Santa Went Crazy", "One More Minute", or "You Don't Love Me Anymore". And those are just off the top of my head- he's got quite a few songs that go very dark, sick, twisted, and downright sadistic.
"Do I Creep You Out", "Melanie", "Headline News", and "Happy Birthday" (a personal favorite of mine) are all great too, and pretty dark.
Headline News really isn't constant- he changes it for more current headlines live.
kamikaze9699 Oh, that's really cool... I'd love to hear a newer version, haven't seen him live in a pretty long time. I was thinking more the first recorded version with the video (The video is hilarious btw), but still I'm sure a lot of the headlines he picks include some pretty messed up stuff.
oh elementary skewl! memories!
Change a few words and this would be the greatest song James Taylor that he never wrote.
I wonder if he got the idea for the third verse from Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.
their 93.1 jack fm in Culver city CA don't know if it's the same place though
Those weren't the good old days for the victims. lol love this song the whole going of the rails thing is hilarious 😂
@Bridger987 I think it sounds familiar because although he's not parodying a song, he is parodying James Taylor, in my opinion.
Wow this was a beloved song of my childhood and it did not age well.
It aged really well.
Poor Sweet Michelle. I also wonder if she ever made it home.
nah she died in the desert
It's in the style of James Taylor....particularly his song "Only One"
Guitars around him are too loud to hear his own voice. It's to stay on pitch. Same reason they have speakers facing the band at a concert.
Weird Al's "Excitable Boy"
Weird Al's cover of the song that comes after "Excitable Boy": ua-cam.com/video/iU4aP_tMfVM/v-deo.html
Why does he cover his ears when he's singing? I never understood that.
Lynne Aneweer it's probably just so he can hear himself better, idk though
@tavis5500 Not all of the songs he performs are parodies. He does write original compositions. It might be a good idea to learn more about Al before assuming everything he does is based off original songs.
If I'm not mistaken, he's been with the same band basically since the beginning.
This is true. Bermuda, Jim, and Steve have been with him since the early '80s. Rubén's the new guy- he joined in 1991.
the original song that he based this one off of, i could never find, if you can tell me i would really like to know
Fuck me this is best
This is definitely a James Taylor style parody!
any chance the npr logo could be erased out of this video
Originals > Parodies.
That's a peach.
Disturbing as hell. It’s great.
It is, however, intentionally done in the style of a James Taylor song.
Nature Trail from Hell
but it does seem to be poking fun at James Taylor, much like the song "Velvet Elvis" is done in the vain of The Police..
There's only one dislike
Just twisted enough.
The good old days indeed.
I still remember my parents running down the stairs when they heard me yell "TAKE THAT, BEN!!!". But when they found out what I was doing, they were like "Yeah! And you took care of The Fly too.".
Mr. Fender rebuilt his store, and still let me in.
And Michelle is still alive. Her hair grew back. She was somehow able to untie herself from the chair and made it home. And she forgave me for all that.
Of course I'm joking. I never did any of that.
...or did you? 😁
@@Channel-kc2vv I didn't think about it until now. But which would be worse, shaving, or waxing, off all her hair?
What an awful song.
