Pranam Swamiji! This was a very useful session for all of us. I have listened to several of your talks on concentration, focus and this one was great assimilation of many of your talks and very practical and insightful.
Main Crux for listeners who missed someparts owing to bilingual diction:
    1. Swami Vivekananda powerful definition of "Education as manifestation of the perfection already in man" remain a fundamental truth.
    2. In Vedanta, knowledge of self is the ultimate knowledge of everything else avidya. However, one who strives to lift the viel of ignorance for him/her the material knowledge comes "blazing as thousand suns". The one who attains perfect concentration it is that power by which Swamiji could read and memorise the entire encyclopedia.
    3. The strive for all of us should be to improve focus and concentration which most of us are losing in today's ways of life, gadgets and externalities.
    4. Vidya in Sanatan teaching is referred to as path to liberation "Vidya swamukhtaye". However, slowly we are getting disconnected from this important and critical essence of learning that enables the process of liberating us and generating the soft power which should come with education. The concept of "ubhaya snataka" the top level graduates or deep work ( as refereed to by western world) are those students who reach perfection in educational learning and then delivering it for the benefit of humanity.
    5. Today's goal oriented education is too much focused on hard power - economics which in turn are exploited by business. The overt focus on hard power creates conflict in humans, firms and nation. And thus humanity continue to suffer whereas the role of education should be to reduce human suffering and conflicts through advent of science and technlogy. The essence of education for future should be to bridge the disconnect and link educations goal to generate the soft power along with hard power. Both aspects needs to be equally emphasized in order to be sustainable to create human desire for true education. The disconnect in educations purpose needs to be bridged.
    6. In age of internet and mobile, we knowingly or unknowingly are falling prey to attention economy. The internet and mobile economy is all geared to catching one's attention and time. While all good content is available free in internet, the challenge for the industry is how to seek users attention. The mechanism and technology being used by the technlogy forma are developed in tune with human psychology. This has resulted in attention deficit and our power to concentrate which is reflected in class rooms to board rooms.
    7. Mobiles and Internet pushing contents cannot be referred to as neutral technology as they impact human cognitive ability in long run and people suffering from attention deficit. How it will impact today's children growing up with this technology is something to wach for in next 20 years
    8. Many of us in the process are losing the power of focus and concentration.
    9. Every time we loose attention it takes 15 minutes to gain same level of concentration
    10. Research shows that our attention can at one point in time can process on 120 bits. Listening to a person needs 60 bits so that is the reason it is difficult to listen and comprehend two people talking at one time. Average human cannot comprehend and process more than 60-80 bits per second. People who have high concentration and focus can grasp close to 120 this is the time one loses sense of time and space. This state is called "FLOW".
    11. The concept of Flow was introduced by Mihaly Csikszentmihalvi. The other prominent scientists who have done depths of research in the area of positive psychology that enable improvement in human cognitiive bility and experience of happiness and sense of well being are Martin Seligman, Daniel Goleman. It is studied that state of flow is determined by ability/skill and difficulty of task. So a individual needs to work consciously towards developing this. The state of flow is linked to release of happy hormones and thus can help one to access the bliss body and mind "Ananda maya kosha"
    12. As a daily guide, we should be mindful of distractions of internet, mobile and try to avoid them during work, studies and any other work. We should practice the habit of paying full concentration in all our daily activities (eating, physical activities, talking, studies). The common traits of all meditative practices from different traditions is the concentration and focus if mind. This is an art we need to keep learning, unlearn our bad habits of continously checkmg for messages alerts in phones, keep practicing complete focus on any activity we do to improve the outcome/output and experience of happiness in that state.
