Great job. I have great respect for what The Farmer and You are doing, I wish there were many more families like yours. Do you have a machine shop near? After 40 years of owning a construction business and equipment, is it cost effective for you to have new bearings pressed into the old disc hub and put it on the shelf for spares? On our crawler equipment, if the track hubs were not worn out, we would have new bearings pressed in for a savings over purchasing the hub from caterpillar. Good Job done well on the planter.
Hate to bust your bubble, bud but that aint no reverse(left hand thread)......Or the old saying righty tighty, lefty loosy wouldn't be..would it? .You use logic when it comes to threaded things,,,, the nut is threaded in the direction of rotation while in operation.. not all the time but this helps prevent it from loosing up
frozen is a quick reveal. some years ago I bought a Non-Contact Infrared Digital Thermometer to shoot bearings with. after familiarizing myself with their normal operating temperatures I was able to quickly access approaching bearing failures due to friction heat. most combine fires are the result of friction heat in worn out bearings.
when the bearings go out the wheels don't turn and it drags corn fodder and that's how you know the bearings out and you will have Bunches of corn fodder behind you. thanks for your comment have a good day
Thanks for showing the repair end of the farming to I'm sure the up keep is just as important to keep thing working on the farm great vid
Never a dull moment on the farm.
If you could get through a season with no breakdowns! you would say to us, this just never happens.

unless that bearing was frozen I bet finding it was a process that took some time.
It was frozen I guess you could say we were lucky.

How do you know if the bearing is bad? Is that something you pre-check for before heading to the field?
