What a huge organ! And this improvisation exhausts this violence. This piece never gets boring. Great👍

    BRILLIANT!!!!!
Thanks sooooo very much for this as this is the very first hymn that I sung as a chorister in 1967, and the very first hymn that I learned to play and as can be imagined, I NEVER tire of it ever.
I wanted to record what was my annual posting of Sine Nomine for All Saints Sunday last week and upload it yesterday November 1st since I stopped posting after my last post of it in 2014, but the church where I record someone became infected with the Corona virus and the church has been shut down since last week.
I'm hoping that the person who tested positive will be alright, and I hope to resume recording in two weeks. I'm thrilled to see this video and can't thank you enough for your superb improvisation on my favourite hymn. All of the best to you and THANK YOU!!

Thanks, I am so happy that you enjoyed it! I agree, I love this hymn very much too, it is such a well written tune. Sorry to hear that covid has infected your church community, I hope that the person who was ill recovers alright and that all activities can resume soon. :)

Incredible! Wonderful improvisation! I especially liked the reed (festival trumpet?) that took the melody around 3:22. Loved the registrations. Such a huge console. I would almost think you need a roadmap to keep up with that! I always look forward to hearing your posts. Thanks for sharing your talent.

Thank you! The reeds for the melody were the two tuba mirabilis stops, the french horn, and the trumpet of the solo division together, they are quite powerful reeds so they are able to easily pierce through the texture. Yes it is quite a large console to keep up with, it took me a whole year to learn the layout but I think now I've almost memorized where everything is. Thanks for watching and listening :)

@@EthanHamanMusic It's music worth listening to. My wife and I have a good friend who is an organist but no longer plays due to poor health. For many years he played a 4-manual 65 rank Austin in Richmond. Your playing reminds us both of what he would do. We enjoy it and look forward to your posts.

It is heartening to hear that, I'm glad that I can help continue the tradition that organists like him have carried on for us. I have another improvisation being released here tomorrow for the beginning of Advent, enjoy :)

    beautiful one right there @ethan..
What's the secret to improvisation.... I'm finding it very difficult 😢

Thank you! It’s difficult to explain briefly, but one of the main things I’d suggest is to take things slowly and step by step. Focus on learning to improvise simple harmonization first, and practicing consistently for short bits of time each day is more helpful than practicing once in awhile for long times. I recommend following a book like Gerre Hancock’s “Improvising: How to Master the Art.” Wishing you the best of luck on your journey :)

you pay the melody at a very restrained speed and allow the melody to really sing.
