Aya 7:157 mentions LAHUMU (wayuHillu LAHUMU th-thayyiibaati وَيُحِلُّ لَهُمُ الطَّيِّبَاتِ) and 3ALAYHIMU (wayuHarrimu 3ALAYHIMU al-khabaa*ita وَيُحَرِّمُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْخَبَائِثَ) , any insight why these words (LAHUMU and 3ALAYHIMU) are used ? and the pronouns HUMU and HIMU are translated as THEM, then who are THEM in this case?
They (them) are mentioned in the beginning of the Ayah 7:157 'Allazeena'. Also Read 7:156 and 7:158 to find who "them" are. When an ayah starts with Allazeena - look at the previous ayah to see if its a continuation - (7:156 ends with := and those who believe - are at peace with - our Ayat) . Please note that this does not mean HLL and HRM are authority of the Messenger or Prophet; they come from Allah - its just that the RASUL is reciting the AYAT to them. I left this ayah and the list of halal / haram for later parts. In part 1, I just wanted to focus on the basics - whose authority it is to define HLL and HRM and the games people, clergy play with these terms. I am currently busy with the Salat Series. I will get back to this series later - InshAllah.
