Kiyomasa and Annie are so fortunate to have Shabani for their father. Shabani engages in play with them a lot. Not all silverbacks take out this much time for play. I notice how the kids, especially Kiyomasa mocks his dad. He grabs the rope with his teeth, shakes it while drumming. Hilarious!!!

Kiyo loves to show off his drumming and enjoys the crowd’s cheering. Wow, I’ve never seen Ai chase after Shabani screaming so loud like this, so not like her.

The family enjoyed the sunshine and then tempers frayed a bit as the ladies were getting too hungry.

lol Shabani was carrying a rock. I never saw him do that. When Ai got too close, he threw it at her face. If you blink, you miss it. That's what set her off. It's hilarious b/c Ai is so relaxed and almost standoffish all the time, but the few times I saw someone mess with her, she is swift and goes for the jugular hahaha. Shabani ran for his life!
They never really hurt one another, except for a nick here or there, but I have noticed that they get particularly anxious when they are hungry and waiting to get food on the other side of the door, especially if it's taking too long, and more so if the chimps are loud. That makes them even more frustrated.
It's a GREAT family and Shabani is a fantastic father, the best silverback I've ever seen. Nene is a sweetie too.
Naughty boy Shabani. It’s been a while since he provoked any female. He used to provoke Nene a lot in the old enclosure. In this enclosure he does that far less.

I know these gorillas were transferred to a.. slightly..better enclosure but sure do wish they are in the wild where they all belong. All of the noise and repetitive daily routines have got to be driving them insane😢☹️ Oh well
Maybe one day they will be rescued and placed in an environment with trees and water.
