(SEASON 2 SPOILERS * * * * *)
YA'LL, YA'LL--------I'VE GONE FROM BEING VIRTUALLY DEAD TO UPLOADING TWO VIDEOS IN TWO WEEKS WHAT. OKAY, so u know I just can't PUT IT INTO WORDS HOW MUCH THIS COUPLE MEANS TO ME, AND THE SHOW OKAY, ITS SUCH A HAPPY PLACE. But, in the spirit of context, I'll let u know how my situation went after finishing season 2. I finished, blew my nose and wiped my eyes of course because I WAS IN PIECES, THE GOD DAMN ENDING OF EP 8 I CAN'T--
-okay, anyways, I finished it, went to scream in Zoe's editor discord, began to get very overwhelmed emotionally as a surge of so many different emotions hit me (*) all at once. My arms and legs went numb, then I was struggling to breath (like, literally I couldn't properly, I had to regulate my breathing) so I got up, but I had to hold onto my side as my face was going numb and I was going light headed. Pretty sure I was close to passing out. I sat on my window ledge with the window open for some air and absolutely ugly cried my a*s off
(*) a summary is, heartstopper is basically my high school experience, but with a positive and so much happiness. I was a closeted gay, inoffensive, nerdy, quiet, outcasted, you name it, basically Charlie in a lot of ways, even down to some more sadder comparisons, which I won't cover here. My straight best friend was 1) ginger, 2) loved rugby, 3) we did EVERYTHING TOGETHER and 4) the rugby captain...but..he never came out as bi so...I lived my happy ending through Nick & Charlie (and still am) so this couple is so closely tethered to what my reality could have been, so they hold a very special place in my heart. I also didn't go to prom because I had a falling out with this same said best friend, so seeing them all at prom in ep 8 actually made me feel really heartbroken but also so overwhelmingly happy so I really didn't know how to process all of that when finishing season 2.
I downloaded season 2 (THANK YOU ZOE ILY GFKJNGF) and began scenelisting it. Took me like two days (I did nothing but scenelist) and I had SO MANY ENTRIES ON MY SCENELIST GKJFNGDF. I am pretty sure I listed three scenes per minute in episode 1 at a minimum, aAHHH IT WAS SO FUN. The ensued a whole load more crying as well, and I am yet to survive episode 8 without crying. The entire final speech...Ur So Pretty playing--EMOTIONALLY COMBUSTING.
I finished my scenelist and began this! I was torn between songs, but I literally woke up in the night after watching season 2 and thought "James, edit love story!" so the fact I woke up to think about it says this was the song to do. Now I gotta give a huge shout out to @darkxspirit , bestie--U MADE SO MUCH OF THIS EDIT HAPPEN OKAY. So for context ya'll, he popped up after season 2 to see how I was doing (lol obvi I was an absolute train wreck, and still am), and we discussed it, still are, and we were sharing previews of our edits to each other, and he really gave me some HUGE MOJO to keep working on this day in, day out.
He showed me the fun and beauty in simpler editing; focusing on matching scenes to the lyrics more so and I have to say I've not had this much fun editing in a fair few years. He also helped my sorry a*ss with the colouring, overlays, getting plugins for svp, a trick with sound effects, overlays, scenes, advice on my ideas I have, so basically babes, THANK YOU SO MUCH BECAUSE U BASICALLY MADE THIS WITH ME GKJFNGDFJ I cannot thank you enough.

This is the first edit I've done entirely in Sony Vegas Pro in probably near on 3 years now?? so I've been relearning things--and I feel I have more to relearn but I honestly am so happy with how this turned out. I hope you enjoy watching it and also sobbing, because I know I sure did LKJGKFDGFD

Your scene-lyric matching game is so strong BUT YOUR PARALLEL GAME IS EVEN STRONGER? The sequences of them looking at each other, kissing, hugging AAAAA…. also the “knelt to the ground” part was literally SO GOOD? Chills. Literal chills….
On the effects side, long live blur/flashes and light leak overlays tbh…best possible combo. The way you used all the assets was iconic and the end result is just BEAUTIFUL.
Im so obsessed with this, and i know i need to rewatch on a bigger screen with headphones to catch all the little details but AAAAAA SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP
I've never felt so seen, needing so long to recover over Nick and Charlie, SUCH A MOOD. N babes, you know what, I never will recover from Nick and Charlie, period
ON A FLIP SIDE, I'M SO GLAD U ENJOYED UR MURDER--we're even for the moment now babes, but I'm pretty sure you're gonna decimate me with another edit soon KGJNFDGD THANK U, BUT HEY YOU HELPED A LOT WITH MY SCENE CHOICES OKAY AND THEN PARALLELS FOLLOWED AFTER. There is just so many, I'M KINDA SAD I MISSED A LOAD OUT TOO IN THIS, BUT JUST NOT ENOUGH SPACE OR THEY DIDN'T FIT RIGHT GJKFDNGKJDF. honestly?? like thank u sm for showing me this kinda style of editing, AND FOR HOOKING ME UP WITH MORE OVERLAYS. I'm gonna try source even more, but you literally saved my ass with all those u shared KJNGFGFD. I was tempted to use the grain and scratch one on so many more scenes but I wanted to build moments of focus so I resisted but ugh they're SO GOOD.
I AM VERY EXCITED FOR U TO WATCH THIS WITH HEADPHONES AS I WANNA SEE IF U HEAR THE THING I DID. Watching it back, yt also makes it even harder to hear and I'M NOT OKAY WITH THIS. At least I know it is there if all else fails 💀😭
