I like this design better than the regular store bought blocks. The open slots allow for better moisture dissipation. Expensive forged knives are prone to moisture damage, (both rust and water spots), so this could be a good solution. Of coarse, hand washing and drying your knives is a must as well. Thanks for posting!!!
Thanks Muz, I just made one very similar to this using maple and walnut. Came out great and my wife loves it. I drilled a hole for the scissors to slide down in.
Kewl - good design - open slots can be cleaned if you need to. I’ve built a few now based on something similar. An upgrade for the slightly more advanced - let your retaining blocks into the main block so they sit flush. I make mine 1/4” thick and usually from a contrasting wood. You have to remember to make the slots deeper by the thickness of the retainer blocks. Second upgrade i make a scissor slot in the angle block b4 gluing it on.
In wood wood class many many years ago was thought to cut off the two side end to make a proper cap to glue back, and we did it with a hand saw and hand plane.
Hey bud, where did you get that branding iron you used on this knife block at the end of the video. Everything I find is cheap import. I need a good one. Anyone?
Very nice knife block, & excellent tutorial. But those little wood sidebars keep niggling my mind - they tend to make the piece look like a repair job. Is there something else that could be done for keeping the knife blades from falling off?
Thanks for watching . As for the little wood sidebars , you could make the block not as wide , bringing the slots closer together and then enclosing the slots with another piece of wood the entire side. Checkout some other knife block videos to get some more ideas...
Really cool build . I was thinking of making a kitchen knife set and block for a local fall fair . Would you be able to put one solid piece across the front rather than a few smaller ones , thanks.
Shiyi YIN I use Final Cut Pro but I believe you can do it with any editing software. UA-cam how to clone yourself , lots of good videos about it....Have fun.
They were roughly 1 1/4" x 6" x 13" , But you can start off with whatever and when you are squaring it up you can cut it to the size you like.... My finished block is 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 10" Thanks for watching.

Basic tools? You call a tablesaw, a chopsaw and a router table basic tools? How am I supposed to get started with woodworking when the "basic tools" cost several thousand bucks?
Those really are basic tools for woodworking. Buy used ones Iike I did and still do.... I just saw 6-9 table saws on Creig's listed for under $300. Start off slow and a little at a time. Come on you can do it!! Thanks for watching👍👍
@@TheMuzShop My understanding of basic tool consists of a ripsaw, a crosscut saw, a drill, a srub plane and a smoothing plane, bench chisels and a mallet. All in all, 100-200$ and like 8 square meters of space, thats all I have. And I think that is the biggest problem for people to get started in woodworking, the mindset that you need a giant workshop and a ton of power tools which just isn't the case
Nice work, gave me some great ideas.
Sweet!! Thanks for watching
There's always a step further haha. Great video.
Thanks and you got that right 👍🏻👍🏻
That helps a lot!! Thank you!
Cool!! Fun project👍🏻👍🏻

demofactory thanks for watching. I tried to keep it simple... I use it and it works well. Thanks again

Best easy design I've seen, yet. open slots let the blades drain/dry off if they get put in wet, and it can be made without a router.
Thank you. You can make it as easy or more challenging as you want....Thanks for watching
Totally simple and well explained. I loved how it came out. Excellent video.
yvonne galaz thank you for your comment. Glad you like it.

Pappy's Shop sweet!!! Great idea for the scissors. Thanks for watching. 👍👍
Belo trabalho! Ganhou uma nova inscrição.

You rock sir.
Thanks man!!
This is on my list to build. Thanks for the tutorial!
Thank you... Glad you liked it and can use some of the info.
The Muz Shop what is the dimension of the wood block before glueing it together and after glueing it? I love it and I am so making this.

Nice!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Jorge Ortiz thanks man! Hope all is good in Perú.

It’s a nice one. A friend got that for me from a company he used to work for…. He’s retired now and the company no longer exists. Sorry
Hey! Do you know the right measurements for the different blocks?
Kind regards
//Emil
Nice video, just wondering if you would share how you came across your brand? I like the size and neatness, thanks
Very nice Muz. Perhaps this was one of the early builds that got you into wood working?
I think you're right. I do remember how much I enjoyed it .
i love the dog
Duarte Monteiro thanks. Shop Dog is old 15 1/2 yr. so he's decided to work only part time. 😂
The Muz Shop what do you pay him with petting or bones?

absolutely you could. You can get creative as you want.... Thanks for watching.
Nice build! Got me to subscribe :)
hizo64HH Awesome!! And thanks.
how hard would it be to make this with a locking key so you can take it apart and clean it.. if you have ever cut open a knife block its nasty
That would be a cool idea. But I never put a knife back on the block unless it’s been cleaned and dried.
@@TheMuzShop even clean and dry is not enough unfortunately. Cut open 9 out of 10 and they are growing crap. Hence the open air magnetic knife blocks.
the ending is cool, is that your brother or another yourself
Shiyi YIN thanks they are both me 😉
@@TheMuzShop that's dope, what software or function did you use to edit that part? Thanks
Shiyi YIN I use Final Cut Pro but I believe you can do it with any editing software. UA-cam how to clone yourself , lots of good videos about it....Have fun.
What kind of woods did you take for your knife block?
coppernic77 I used white oak cause that’s what I had , there are many different woods you can use. Hope you make one and have fun.
What dimensions are the sections of wood that you initially glue together? Many Thanks in advance

Talks about it being for wood working beginners with not too many tools, proceeds to use an array of pro expensive wood working tools.
I think I can make this with my Dewalt job site table and miter saws. Good enough equipment and not that expensive.
