he actually offered to play 2011-2012 for free, which makes me like him more
Exactly. He was a fantastic player, great at Bayern Munich and England and in his first year at United. So unfortunate that injury curtailed his career...
totally agree. he just like michael owen the fantastic player but injury totally change them
@@tommykemarau9572 shocking comparison
OWEN Hargreaves was not a FANTASTIC player. Work rate great. Decent to above average or why wouldn't he had more demands to be bought as a player. He didnt .
@@erniescullion8452 bayern munich, man utd...yeah, must have been average.
@@Mr___Xno
he handled that very articulately, Roy keane would have probably chinned the presenter for asking similar questions lmao
And then thrown all the cameras through the wall and brought on the 4th apocalypse led by leprechauns born to tear Patrick Vieira in half
😂😂Do me a favour

i love how he handled the question ❤️great player

Does anyone else think he looks like Robb Stark?
YES!

King of the North
THE KING IN THE NORTH
Not sure why Sir Alex called Hargreaves the worst signing, He played well that entire season and he played a lot of games, I remember his very important free kick goal against Arsenal which was key in United winning the title that year, don't forget Man U won the title on the last day that year, if they had dropped points at Old Trafford against Arsenal, they might have lost out at the end. He was also great in the CL final against Chelsea, where he started the game on the right of a midfield 4 and then played on the right of a central midfield 3 when Sir Alex switched to a 4-5-1 in the second half. Hargreaves had a great first season at United. Injuries ruined his United career not lack of quality or effort.
He didn't mean his worst signing but as in his most disappointing as he was, like you said, a player and so I think Fergie was hoping he'd become a big part in his team for the next few years but probably felt Hargreaves' lack of ambition and his injuries ruined that hope.
+Matt Josh I'll say it, as i've done for the past few years. I think in 2009 UCL final, we may have won, or still have had the same outcome and lost to Barcelona. I do feel however, a fully fit Hargreaves in that season would have made a difference to that final. Same with the 2009 - 2010 Premier League season, when we lost to Chelsea by 1 point. Once Hargreaves got injured, we lacked a proper defence midfielder. His time at Bayern served him well, in that he had great awareness of the game, and his technical ability was great. Similar to Schweinsteiger in a way (of course Schweinsteiger was converted to a CM from 2009 on wards.) I was disappointed by Fergies comments, because sure Ronaldo was the main man in 2008, but Hargreaves brought a balance to the team we lacked in 2007, when Kaka and Milan took us apart in the Semi-Final.
+DweenieeTodd Hargreaves never played as a Defensive/Holding midfield player for Man U, he played in a midfield 4 on the right, at least that's what I remember. In the second half of the Chelsea final, I remember him playing in a Central midfield 3 once Sir Alex switched from the 4-4-2 to a 4-1-4-1 when Chelsea took hold of the game and that's pretty much how that season went, Hargreaves played a lot of games on that right side but staying very narrow cause he aint really a winger. Anyway he was a good player for Man U that year and an important part of their double winning formula, it's a shame injuries ruined his career
Peter E he could play across the whole midfield, his best position was a cm box to box
Probably cuz he joined city
ok fergusen ill give you that, he was lazy in training, but during the games owen NEVER stopped running when he played, and scored some nice goals, and broke down play more then any midfielder that year when we won the league and champions league, those words were a little harsh fergie, but i still respect you as a utd fan
he only scored 2 goals
Nafi asdin he was a holding player not an attacker
@@fazlinafiasdin255 but were they nice?
Well spoken guy, he dealt with that very well.
Hargreaves handled this very professionally.
What a guy so articulate.
Classy answer from Hargreaves on air im sure he wanted to say it differently away from the camera. Sir Alex im dissapointed in
supaahflyy why? Sir Alex was being honest that's how he was always so successful he was straight and honest with his players in some cases players wanted to prove him wrong and in others they just fell out and left the club Ferguson demanded 100% from all his players in terms of attitude and work ethic and if Hargreaves didn't have it then I have to agree with ferguson
@@user-vt5ns3dt7x without him he wouldn't have won Champions league 2008.
Fergie ran off and left United after winning his last prem, look at the state of them now.
@@markwilliams5733 Ran off? He left them at the highest of highs with a league winning team. Nothing like Wenger. The reason for the state they are in now is CEO Ed Woodward who also came in at the time he retired. He retired because his Wife's sister had died recently then. He wanted to spend more time with her which he couldn't if he was the manager.
Sir Alex is a Fanny...
He wasn't a disappointing signing at all. He was just very very unlucky with injuries. When he was getting games under his belt he was a fantastic signing. Look at his performance in the UCL 08 he was blinding and he single handedly carried us in the World Cup 06. Just very unfortunate with injuries.
That’s why it was disappointing 😂
I thought he was fantastic for us
Yeh! Fantastic for one season
His accent is all over the place.
He's Canadian!
that's no canadian accent!
Robert Green Brought up in Germany...I don't know, maybe it's the combination of all these factors.
Cheers.
what do you mean by all over the place?
+Robert Green Kinda reminds me of Christian Bale.
2007/08 Owen Hargreaves was our best players by a mile! he was an hero in that season!
TRIPLE6TV him and wes brown that year
Ronaldo would like a word...
@Rohan Chatterjee the best player in the world
Very harsh on Hargreaves.
9 games since 2007-08... The season he mentioned he had 34 apps.
But Ferguson should have given credit where its due. Without him, they would have struggled to win the champions league, or even league!
And he has really been dogged by injuries.
BUT! 4 Bundesliga league trophies, 1 Premier League trophy, and 2 Champions League trophies...
Its fair to say, he has had a pretty great career!
The man was a god at Bayern, a god for the national team, and in his first season at United he was integral in them winning the league and Champions League. To be treated like that after an injury and after all he did for the club and during his career is heart breaking
Awful really
He certainly wasn’t a god for the national team.
A smarter response than Sir Alex Ferguson himself.
As a united fan, for once I have to disagree with SAF. Owen Hargreaves was a top signing for united, just a shame his career at Old Traford was blighted by injuries. But the few games he played in that 1st season he showed us why he was worthy to wear the shirt. The only bone I have to pick with was the criticism he had for Manchester United once he joined City and maybe that was one of the reason SAF was harsh of him at the end.. But apart from that, Hargreaves was a top player and I just wish we united fans could have seen and enjoyed more of his best.
I'm a United fan and I agree. His first season was mixed but he did put in some exceptional performances against Arsenal, Roma, and even his first game against Man City he was easily the best United player on the pitch I thought. He put in a good champions league final shift as well.
it's a shame that probably our only two decent 'Keane type' players have both been so injured (Hargreaves and Fletcher).
BOSIE321 wow, brilliant player, best player on the pitch, i give that to ronaldo
I hear English, with tinges of American, Canadian, Australian and German. WTF?!?!
With a bit of Portuguese and Andorran thrown in, as well....
He also lived in Germany for several years.
Owen was born in Canada to English parents, grew up and started, in earnest, his football career in German played there for many years, all the while being English and eventually playing for the English national team, as well as for Manchester United at the peak of his career. Was a fantastic player for United and incredibly unfortunate to sustain a career ending injury at 27 years old.
Responded very well to that question.
He grew up in Canada, played in Germany, his parents were from England, and he then went on to play in England and for England.
Ryan Byrnes I actually thought he was German for a long time lol
Note how Sir Alex never mentioned anything about his talent, only about his professionalism (even Owen admits he should have come to Fergie sooner). Either way, Hargreaves was easily one of the best midfielders in the world when Ferguson signed him, and I'm glad I saw him play for us for the little time he did.
Hargreaves responding with more class than he was attacked with. Good on him.
We couldn't have won the UCL in 2008 if we had no hergreaves , SAF made a stupid statement
But we had no hergreaves.
Not true at all one of the dumbest comments I’ve ever read
Very good player
@@sjc7189 no he is right
He was important for us
Muhammed Khan to say we wouldn’t have won the champions league without Hargreaves is some statement I’m just saying we had far more important players in the team than him! He couldn’t run the midfield like a scholes did or a Keane in his day so not as important as some seem to think, just my opinion anyway
i was disappointed with how things turned out with hargreaves. he was one of the few english players i really admired who had tremendous potential but sadly, cut short
Absolutely. His injuries hampered his career but he was a top, top player. Don’t understand why Hargreaves isn’t rated more.
Hargreaves was highly disrespectful about united when he joined city, claiming that the staff purposely sabotaged his recovery which I think is why Fergie said what he did. Either way, Its a shame because United would have won more things had Hargreaves been more fortunate with his injuries
Its a shame because United would have won more things had Hargreaves been more fortunate with his injuries
So would England!
Completely agree. Ferguson was harsh, and he exaggerated in his criticisms, but Hargreaves brought all that on himself by slandering Ferguson's medical team after he left Utd.
I think they've made it up. But yeah it was a receipt for the other comments
I think alex's comments are unfair, Hargreaves played an important part in winning the champions league in 2008, he was the only English player that can score a fucking penalty, reference vs portugal.....
the one thing I hate about sir Alex is digging out players who won and loved the club Hargreaves, Beckham,Keane etc
Ince
@@gammergq9741 Ince is egotistical. Brilliant but his ego got too big.
Seems harsh for them to have put him on the spot like that, very horrible, awkward question but fair play to him for delivering such a level-headed, clear and honest response. Can't see someone like Keane doing the same
He wasn't put on the spot though; the producers go over all the topics with the presenters before the show airs.
Always loved Owen at Bayern München.
not a united fan but i did enjoy watching hargreaves play
From the way Owen Hargreaves is speaking it seems like there's a lot of stuff that was unsaid and plenty to read between the lines. It seems like Owen's camp didn't commuicate well enough with Sir Alex and Man Utd during his recovery and rehab and Owen seems to regret this. I don't know the full story, but it's a massive shame. With Scholes,Carrick and Hargreaves, Utd had the best midfield in 2008, and that's why they won the UCL. He has a lot to be proud of and it's so sad what happened to him with injuries.
Bayern maybe shoulder some resonsibility here, as I don't know whether they knew about his long term knee problems and didn't communicate it to MU and Sir Alex is holding Hargreave responsible.... who knows.
He played a massive part to our 2008 triumph, and was going to play a massive part for years to come if it wasnt for his injuries! He was a quality player, just very unlucky.
Very classy retort. Something Sir Alex could do with learning.
Indeed!
Hargreaves was a top player. such a shame injuries blighted him. He proved everyone wrong in 2006, and I thought he would go on to become one of the best ever in his position. Very harsh of Fergie to say that. Hargreaves earnt his reputation by being a battler and a workhorse, so that criticism is very wrong for me.
all hail the king in the North.
Owen Hagreaves without the injuries was actually one of the few english players that was actually world class. Only world class english players was Hagreaves, Hoddle, Gazza, and Scholes. These players would make it on any other top class international side as well as their England side.
You're forgetting players like Lampard, Gerrard, Hart and Lineker
SleepyKoala Lampard and Gerrard can't play consistently outside of their comfort zone especially in the international stage. But Lineker was pretty good too.
Modern day we still have Hart and Rooney
SleepyKoala okay that's fair. I would like to see Sturridge and Raheem Sterling try to take some of that spotlight also.
In a few years and they keep it up definitely
Hargreaves was outstanding against barca in the semi finals and had a very good season . fergie also said Keane wasn't world class (absolute nonsense ) moyes was the next manager (totally out of his depth ) , choice Fabio over pogba ?? and said big Sam should be England manager . fergie was a great manager but seems to want to be in the spotlight still and now is making a fool of himself .
well said
he might've been right about pogba
SAF had some questionable in his time in charge still won't taint his reputation but his book seemed really desperate for attention... I mean hargreaves his worst signings I mean ANDERSON, DJEMBA DJEMBA, diouf the list goes on
Anthony Helm everyone makes bad decisions at the end of the day we are all human. Of course saying Keane wasn't world class was a bit stupid but Hargreaves although had a few good games was always injury prone and didn't to me atleast seen as though he was working hard to come back and yes Ferguson did make worse signings but he didn't say that he said he was his worst signing he said it was his most disappointing as he clearly anticipated big things in Hargreaves and he didn't live upto them with Bebe and djemba djemba he probably didn't expect them to be world class. Hargreaves was one of the biggest stars who we consistently lost to injury and was a great player on his day
Jibberish comment
One of the worsts signing of his career? Fergie has lost it! He was pivotal in Utd winning the premier league and champions league
Disappointing, not worst. Means Sir Alex hoped for much more and didn't get it due to his injuries.
zackybakers Hargreaves far from disappointing
He said disappointing- what is wrong with people?!
Stormin Norman - he was very disappointing
Still one of my favourite United players! Its a shame he kept getting injured.
The way he speaks about Sir Alex even after those comments shows his class as well.
His free kick against Arsenal and his successful spot kick in the UCL finals definitely stand out
his accent is so muddled. he sounds like he has 6 accents at once
+michael jagger ya i know but its cause he was born canadian, his brothers are welsh, his mother and father are english, and he lived in germany for a while.
@@EpicToasterFish My uncle grew up with him and his brothers in Calgary. He, and his older brothers had typical Canadian accents. He changed it like Madonna, to fit in.
He did have success with Bayern. How big a part do you think he played in Manchester United's Champions League triumph in 2008?
Big part in both the Premier League 2008 win and Champions League 2008 win. Was man of the match in his first 5-6 games for United. Then also played as a right-mid in the UCL matches and in the UCL final. Not to mention, he scored a crucial penalty in the shootout vs Chelsea and it was a great penalty.
Hargreaves would probably still be at MUfC now if it wasnt for injuries such a technical and defensive minded midfielder.. A great and rare talent with a pinch of unluckiness through injury
Hargreaves was fucking fantastic for us in the 08 Champions League campaign. No way would we have won it that year without him, gave us great shape and we were so comfortable on the ball. He's the kind of player we desperately need right now.
Owen Hargreaves had a terrible injury hit time at Man United. Its a shame the games he played he was one of our best players, never stopped giving 110%.
I knew very little of Hargreaves apart from when I watched him play for England. And I must say, I never saw anyone on the pitch from either team putting as much blood sweat and tears as I saw from him at any given moment. I do not for a second buy a word of what Ferguson said about him.
This is a guy who leaves everything on the pitch, never has any media issues. Someone who I only experienced on the periphery of my football fandom but somehow had enormous respect for.
+DavidBlueScribe 35 decent games over 3 seasons and he was crocked because his knee's were shot. The surgeon said Hargreaves knee's were the worst he's seen. On good season doesn't make for a great career. And to accuse medical staff of not doing their best for him shows him to be a an ungrateful cint.
Too much was made of Alex Ferguson's comments when his biography came out. All that is picked on is all the negative things he said. If you read the book you will see that he really just speaks truthfully and gives his honest opinion. Despite doing this he still said very positive things about the majority of people mentioned. In addition to the stuff mentioned in this video, Ferguson also said that when Hargreaves was fit he did make a massive contribution to United in the Champions League winning season, but everyone forgets to mention that. He was accused of being negative towards Beckham because he said Beckham made too much of trying to be famous, which is again true. Everyone forgets that Ferguson also wrote that he also said that Beckham was a great footballer and could have been even better if he hadn't pursued fame, does anyone really disagree with that? Despite this Ferguson goes on to say that he has to congratulate Beckham on pursuing the celebrity lifestyle and turning himself into a worldwide icon. He said he didn't think Gerrard was a top, top player which is basically him saying that he isn't up to the standard of players in his position over the years, e.g. Zidane, which again is fair enough. He didn't say he thought Gerrard was shit he just didn't rate him as world class, yet again it was blown out of proportion. Seriously, would it have been better for him to write a load of tosh that wasn't his honest opinion? He even praises Roy Keane despite all the problems the two of them have had....
weirdest accent ive ever heard in my entire life
+Tale Muweke Canadian + English
+hereistand2008 + German + Australian. That's why it's so odd to hear. All of those accents are present.
+Tale Muweke It's Canadian + German. He didn't live in England until he played for United so I don't know how people can think there's manc in his accent.
He lived in Canada growing up and then obviously went to germany, but his mother is Welsh & father is English so may have had an effect on how weird his accent is
Its a FAKE accent..he is Canadian...born in Calgary, Alberta Canada, he is not a true Brit...his real accent resembles a soft American accent with lots of Ehhhh..
Still managed to win the League and Champions League in his only proper season
What a dignified response by Hargreaves , class player on the pitch and off.
Shame injuries ended his career prematurely
I 100% disagree with Sir Alex Ferguson he did very well in the 2007-08 campaign when we won the champions league and the premier league. He played a very huge roll and if he didn't had that injury issue things would have been much different
Sir Alex Ferguson doesn't seem to know the meaning of the word loyalty!
26 and a half years at 1 club is the meaning of loyalty!
adam charlie That's a job, not loyalty.
***** he had the chance to move to Chelsea for more money but stayed loyal to united
adam charlie What a load of Bollocks. If Sir Alex is so loyal why is he slagging his former players off in his book. If it weren't for the players Man U would of won jack shit!
27 years and the longest serving manager man united have had. And you say he doesn't know the meaning of loyalty? You having a laugh?
One of the greatest defensive midfielders of all time, sad to see if ended so disappointingly for him
I like the quotes from the book near the beginning. I was waiting for the host to say ' but that's enough about your good points '
Owen it was great pleasure watching play. You were without a shadow of a doubt one of the best player in world in your generation. I am sure Sir Alex was disappointed that you got injured and you never played for him for many years.
He knew that you were fantastic player , he made these comment out of frustration because he could not take advantage of your skills.
Great watching and listing to your analyses on BT Sport.
I wish you all the best.
Jamel ward, from Algiers-Algeria . F C Liverpool Supporteur
I can understand why SAF called him his most disappointing signing.... He went out and paid for a proven, boarder line world class player and he only got a year out of him..... as a manager that must be disappointing
I always felt sorry for Owen he was a really good player, he worked hard on the pitch and gave it his all in every game. He was really unlucky with the injuries he had. He was also really good for England despite playing only for a few games. Really harsh comment by Fergie about who I think was a really underrated player when he moved to England. Perhaps it would have been better to stay at Munich.
+amarjit dubb Read the whole comment not just a few lines in isolation.
Hopefully they can have a private chat and clear the air. You dont want to see guys who have had success together having bad blood.
The irony about Ferguson's comments is that when ever I saw Hargreaves play he was one of the most committed and consistent players. I would have love for him to played at my club Arsenal...Ferguson - great manager but not the most gracious human being.
Incredibly overlooked and underrated player from the Lamps, Gerrard, Beckham, Owe, Rio and Terry era. He got a lot of stick for not playing in England and getting selected but was probably our best player in 2006. Fergy for all his success and genius (I'm a Liverpool fan lol) is very bitter and overly ideological in his approach to people who caused him problems on the field. He can't seem to admit that he wasn't the best on said day. A shame Hargreaves never found another club after City.
I think SAF wrote a lot of passages in this book while drunk.
Owen was a fantastic signing. I still remember that free kick that got us the W over Arsenal.
he is one of the best midfielders i've ever seen, i remember him for bayern and thinking, how good is this guy! he's tackling was second to none and i don't remember anyone getting past him! he was quick, solid, box to box and could score a goal, how utd could do with him now!!!
of all the stuff from that book this was one of the most surprising, Hargreaves handled it with class.
In his accent I can hear Canadian, British , and German and he played for England
He was a great player for us, I still miss him. We all know he have his 100%. Sir alex being sir alex also said Rio is not a world class player. Remember anyone.
What a man, Owen Hargreaves...A very underrated contribution to Man United. An excellent and versatile player he was
Fair play to owen. He never bites back and stay respectful
He was superb for us. Not sure why SAF is so disappointed with him. Though the injuries kept him out for majority of the seasons after 2008
He wasn't at United for long but he was a brilliant player for us and England. He seems like a smashing person too.
2007/08 season - what a player
Hargreaves is one of the BEST England players of recent times.
Ja Z lol
I hope everyone knows he is actually Canadian; he was born in Calgary
Daidi Fantaye Why? He has English blood. His father is English.
Raheem Sterling isn't English by blood or birth.
Canyon Overlook He may have the blood but his country of birth is where he should play. I am born in Ethiopia, yet have Yemeni blood from my mom; I wouldn't refer to myself as Yemeni just because of that. If I played soccer, I would play for the country I was born in, as most players tend to do.
Nonsense! I live in England but I was born in Switzerland and both my parents have Nigerian blood so therefore are from Nigeria. I'm a Nigerian.
Why the fuck would I play for Switzerland just because I was born there. Doesn't make any sense! Being born in a county doesn't mean your from there. Swiss people are white Caucasians and I'm a black negroid, does that still make me from Switzerland because I was born there despite the fact that I'm not a white person?
Seriously, you are from wherever you have blood and not where you were born.
Edward 2012 You're Swiss. You're ethnicity is Nigerian. Ergo, you're a Swiss Nigerian. If you disagree, come to University of Ottawa and explain it to my well educated professor who taught this.
***** Yea that's a correct way of saying it.
Ferguson doesn't come out of this very well ... look also at what he said about Keane.
He came out of it looking just fine LOL
Owen's response was pure professionalism, didn't take a shot back at Fergie just explained how unfortunate his situation with injuries was. As a United fan i'm disappointed his United career was plagued by Injuries, over the last 5-6 years they've been missing a CM alongside Carrick and maybe a healthy Hargreaves might have been the answer to the midfield conundrum!
Wouldn't have won the ECL in the 07/08 season without him. That one season was worth a fortune to Utd. Ferguson was a great manager but his ability to fall out with people over differences of opinion was legendary. Once he fell out, he couldn't back down and it's a shame that at his age and level of achievement he couldn't show more dignity in discussing Hargreaves.
Very respectful. Handled it well. Not sure I would have been so tactful.
Well done Owen for not turning it into a childish slanging match. Very honourable and mature response.
What a thoroughly decent guy. And he could play the Jon Snow role in Game of Thrones.
He was a top player I’ll always respect him, regardless of what happened after he was part of a team that gave me some of the best moments ever as a united fan so 🤛🏾
Ferguson showed himself as having no class with his shabby little books. Snide, petty man.
Well spoken here Owen, fair play after the nonsense he was saying when he got released this is a good turnaround.
Such a shame that a great player had to be dealt such a bad hand with injuries
Hats off to Hargreaves there. Could have shouted his mouth off but showed he was the bigger person and dealt with a tricky situation very well.
I think fergie was right, he bought hargreaves on a 3 year deal but only played one of them and at the end of his contract he goes and joins man city why would fergie not be disappointed?
Hargreaves offered to play for United for FREE. To rescue his career. But United thought that was not possible.
It was Man Utd's decision to not renew his contract and instead allow him to leave, a team like City offers him a deal and you think they can expect him to NOT be interested?
TopDog69 Well said mate! He wants to play, I'm sure has "needs" and not wants, but b'coz it's Man City, he shouldn't accept to play for them as the team he was willing to play for free for didn't want him! Mind boggling to say the least!
It's Fergie's book. He has earned the right to give his personal opinion. The amount of crap books I have read where no one is criticized.
He had know right to disrespect the players that made Manchester united. People seem to forget all the players that played for man u. Yes Fergi was a massive influence but you have to give credit to the players, who at the end of the day are winning the games.
KickUpStudios1 You mean "no right" I guess (you wrote "know right"). Actually you're both right here. Books should be direct and honest but discrediting your personnel is never a very good idea for ones aftermath of reputation. If a person is boss and collect the prize for success, than he is also the responsible if the ship sinks
His accent is Canadian with a tiny hint of English from having lived there for so many years. It ends up sounding like a German speaking English though lol
He lived in Germany for 8 years at a young age and speaks German fluently . This is why he sounds German
Life time United fan, Owen worked his socks off for us when he was fit and was gutted for him and us when injuries ruined his time with us, love SAF but hate to say it sometimes he lacks "Busby" like class! Always thought Owen's move to City was not a good option for him, sure he got paid more there than say a Bolton or Wigan but was never going to get first team football which suggested he could be in it for the money and to get back at United!
Hargreaves was brilliant in that 2007/2008 season, don't know what SAF is on about. Yes he was a disappointing cause he was injured all the time but that was harsh
Amazing for United... went to every game home and away, Europe, league and cups.... he was just fantastic...only player who Ronnie used to let take the odd free kick... Fulham was a good one I think... but Hargreaves was crucial that year... Scholes, carrick, Hargreaves... what a midfield...
Ferguson should have known what he was getting. In his last two seasons at Bayern he played 16 and 9 league games respectively. He was always an injury prone player. I also think the reason Ferguson has been so critical of Hargreaves is because he accused United's medical staff of negligence after he left. Anybody who has criticised Ferguson or United was on the receiving end of criticism in the autobiography. Ferguson's a very touchy man.
Fantastic player...grew into his role, and became a stalwart in England and Manchester.
I think Ferguson was talking in terms of how Hargreaves was so injury prone during his time at Old Trafford.
owen hargreaves would have probably gone down as a legend for manutd and england. he was just brilliant. he could play any where across the midfield as cm, as a winger, as a dm and even in defence as a right back. was a superb reader of the game. he was quick. he could run for days. had good vision. a proven free kick taker. quality passer of the ball as well. just a brilliant player.
and what ferguson says about him is so so unfair and disappointing for a man of his stature. every game that he played he gave his 100%. one can easily see that if u watch him play. he dint stop running. he was always looking to create something. not many a time would a manutd fan disagree with ferguson to such an extent. signing hargreaves would have been regarded as the biggest master stroke by ferguson had he been fit. he was a crucial player.
his contribution was immense during 2007/08 in the league and champions league. and surely he would have made the difference in 2009 final. there were a lot more disappointing signings like djemba djemba, kleberson, bellion, ANDERSON, bebe, obertan.
disgraceful from ferguson to regard hargreves as his most disappointing signing and to say he always had doubts about his attitude is rubbish.
My sentiments entirely! I cant understand how a successful manager has to make such comments about not only Hargreaves, but other players like Keane and Beckham who brought success to the club in a book, AFTER he's left! It's totally unnecessary! It's pathetic to see someone sink so low.
One of the best players ever! He was just unlucky with injuries and such....too bad! I wish you well Owen!
I MET HIM YESTERDAY AT DISNEYLAND PARIS WHAT A LOVEIY BLOKE........!!!!!!!!!!!
Marie Piette did he come off space mountain on crutches?
he didn't seem to be no
Absolutely class on his day. Genuinely a world class player in his prime to play for two massive clubs like Munich and United
It's no secret Fergie has an ego, some things he says or does you might not agree with. But, it's that ego that made him the man he his and pushed Man Utd to where they are. The best in all walks of life will have an ego more often than not. Questioning the loyalty of a man who served near 27 years at one club is bollocks. I'm guessing you think Gerrard has no loyalty and it's just a job for him too? Nah, didn't think so gob shite.
Well first you're absolutely right that AF's mentality is what gave him success, but well..Then that is not loyalty to others but himself. Let's not pretend otherwise. He wanted Man United to become loyal to him..
Guess he never said otherwise so I don't think anybody really have a problem with that :-)
As for Steven Gerrard, he has a much closer relation to LFC from early on ,than Sir Alex had for Man United when AF came to Old Trafford. Of course Ferguson's loyalty is to Scotland first, that is where he is from aside with his personal ambition.
The main reason Ferguson wanted a career in Manchester was because he hated Kenny Dalglish, and Kenny was in Liverpool as a key player in the 80s, later becoming a player-manager.
Of course Kenny defeated Alex again when the neighbour side Blackburn won the league ahead of United in the 90s, probably increasing Af's desire to give his club United the success of the region by defeating all local competitors there.
Today I think AF will see United as his playground for so many years that he of course has a kind of loyalty to the club now, hoping for it to succeed.
I really don't understand what Hargreaves is complaining about. He was injured and a little unlucky, we all know that. Let's also remember he was not playing for his country Canada but for England, something that I find a little weird and the lack of heart. Yeah Canada sucks big time in soccer but still it is his country.
KibyNykraft Fergies loyalty is to Scotland? Hahahaha you must be kidding! And I'm pretty sure that becoming Manchester Utd manager for almost 3 decades wasn't just to get back at Kenny Dalglish. You do realise that professional football isn't a soap opera right?
KibyNykraft All assumptions. Neither of us know why he does what he does, least his own reasoning for them. Your reasoning is far-fetched; He hated Kenny, so became manager of United so he could face Liverpool to fuel this "huge vendetta". Forgetting he could face Liverpool being a manager for any Prem club, joining a North West club has no relevance. If it did, surely he'd go for Everton to play him in a derby to prove this nonsense-idea of needing to beat whatever club Kenny was managing.
It's a blank statement with no evidence to say his service was for his own ambition with no loyalty to the club. If you really believe that what you said is true, you can apply that to any manager and player. Nobody is loyal unless you have a Liver Bird on your chest, right?
If not for injuries, Hargreaves would have been a United legend. Classy and hardworking player.
why would someone document that in a book, this is really shocking
He was great for England in the 06 World Cup. He won a plethora of medals, privileged to have such a career
Owen was a great signing and player for Utd it's a terrible shame what happened with his injuries he would've enjoyed many years of success with the club. Sir Alex is a legend but to say that about Owen after all he had been through was not right.
Hargreaves' accent is messed up
He's lived most his life in England. He played a bit in Germany. He was born in Canada with Canadian parents. What do you expect
David Woods It's actually the other way around, his parents are British, but he lived most of his live in Canada. Hence the messed up accent
Half his words are in Canadian accent and half are with a British. I think he's faking trying to do the British but can't keep it up.
Handled with dignity wow. Spot on
