Was absolutely thrilled to see you do my home state of Louisiana and spotlight my hometown of Bossier City. When it comes to geography and maps there’s no better UA-cam channel to go to
Things you could have mentioned about Shreveport/Bossier: - Has the state's oldest college/university in Centenary College of Louisiana which is also the oldest college west of the Mississippi - Despite being in the far corner of the state, it hosts the Louisiana State Fair each year - During Reconstruction, the NW parishes attempted to secede to Texas. And if not for an untimely outbreak of yellow fever, it might have succeeded. - In the early 20th century, many musicians including Elvis got their start on The Louisiana Hayride, a production held by local radio station KWKH.
So they still have the - is it -Barnwell Art and Garden Center on the river? i loved the year living there - people were so friendly - even more friendly than New Orleans, which is saying a lot. The funniest thing I saw was when they tried to make a section of town like New Orleans and had a cafe that served 'Ben-Yeas'

Howdy Kyle! We watch (almost) all of your videos and this one was great, not unlike your other videos. Just wanted to give a shout out on this particular video, as we live about 2km (1'ish miles) from a major Acadian expulsion site in 1755. The Acadians are important people in our local history, and we often feel a connection to Louisiana here in Nova Scotia. Happy you mentioned us (Nova Scotia) in this video. Cheers!
love your profiles.!! I have been to 49 of 50 states. Never been to Alaska. I always learn a lot of great facts about all the states. Thanx Geo. King!!
Even though I've never been to New Orleans, or Louisiana in general, it's still one of my favorite cities, and the state is one of my favorites of all. I'm not even entirely sure why. Geography l and architecture mostly, but yeah.
Got family deep down the Bayou in Houma. I love Louisiana, it's just such a comfy gritty place. If you're ever in Baton Rouge, make sure to stop by Bellue's for some of the best authentic Cajun food in the country at rock bottom prices, served by one of the sweetest old school Cajun souls to walk this earth, Wirt Bellue.
Nice overview of the state. 👍 You covered sone of the negative aspects without sounding like you are completely biased against the state, which has happened on other sites.
Nice video 🎥! Thank you for sharing with the rest of us the beautiful State of Louisiana ⚜️ from the point of view of disciplines like economy, food, & geography 🎥!
Kyle, as a life long Louisiana resident, thus is great. One correction at 1:17. Not just the southwest, but also the lower NE 6 parishes (or upper SE parishes) as well, we call these the “Florida Parishes” Also, while the City of Baton Rouge is declining, its resident parish of East Baton Rouge parish is growing and will probably soon over take my residence parish for largest population in the state. At 27:00, fun fact: a red jambalaya with tomatoes is creole and found in New Orleans where a brown jambalaya has no tomatoes and is cajun.
Much love from Alexandria (even if we did get cut, haha). That's my hometown, though. I'm in Lafayette now and much, much happier than I was in Alexandria.
Checking in from Kenner here. Great job! Tho, wish there was a note on the Bonnet Carre spillway, Kisatchie National Forest, and some of our state parks.
I worked in Houston for six years. Many of the employees in our office were from Louisiana (mostly the Lafayette area). Really nice people! Enjoyed their friendship. On an unrelated topic, I heard at one point many years ago that the highest point in Louisiana (mentioned in this video) was so heavily wooded that you could not tell that it was the most "elevated" spot int this state.
To be honest... I love your way to teach interesting stuff. You kinda make me happy when I watch your videos. Keep going and I hope you all the best! Greetings from Finland! :)
Just want to point out the truth about our humidity in La. This summer the heat index reached 124°F one day while I was fishing. Many days you can walk outside and you immediately burst out sweating.
The first few of these I did were much shorter videos with less detail. I was worried that 20+ minute videos would put people off. But after a lot of input from viewers I learned that people were ok with longer videos in this series.
My dad's side of the family immigrated from Ireland during the potato famine to Louisiana, despite having family already settled in the northeast. They ended up settling in Illinois and later Missouri, but I thought it was fascinating they decided to go through Louisiana and not the northeast.
While I’ve never been to the Pelican state I must say it’s one of the most unique states in the union, I have two sisters that live there. I’m curious what is the best state park in Louisiana?
LA Native here. Depends on what you like. Kisatchie is great for camping/hiking, but is in the northern part of the state so there isn't as much swampy land. In the south, Chicot state park and/or any of the Atchafalaya basin area is great for more of the stereotypical swampy areas.
@@CameronRobillard thank you sir for your input!, I would have to say I prefer the swamplands more mostly because I like the more coastal plain styled topography if that makes sense, I’m originally from the lower peninsula in Virginia, I lived in the Piedmont region of Georgia, and now I reside in South Eastern Florida all have their variations in plant/vegetation, elevation, local climate, wildlife etc. I do like mountains and valley/ridges and other geographic regions.
My family has been in the far north east corner of Louisiana (along the Red River) since Texas was still Mexico and I love this state. We have our problem (many, many problems) but that's just part of our unique character, lol.
I wonder if we're related. My maternal great grandmother was a Matlock. I love Louisiana but I have also fallen in love with the southwestern part of Arkansas.
Hey Kyle not evensure if I chatted before with u bout this video. We talked about a la vid and u did it. I'll cut to the chase. Your vid had facts, I watched another attempt about us by another channel and it was off so bad about where to live. I think my fav part was you trying to explain how you say new Orleans. You got it real close. We slur the two word. Just a hint, sometimes the twin cities are better but know one knows. Not as much activity but better place to live. We got great food and I'd love to have supper with u. Great job.
I'll second it. Grew up in Baton Rouge and live just outside the city now. Definitely captured a good bit of the variety of the state. North shore of Lake Pontchartrain is kind of its own world so if you wanted to add anything down the road you could look there.
I love your channel man! I'm from Lake Charles. I might not live in Louisiana anymore, and I'll never live there again, but I gotta say man, it's pronounced "Laugh-ee-ett" not "Loff-ey-ett" That is forgiven though, thank you so much for being so thorough. So many people forget about Hurricane Laura, and no one know how important Louisiana is to the food, shipping, and oil industry in general. I also love your distinguishing of Creole and Cajun culture. Cajuns have better food btw 😉
3:24 Yes, you nailed New Orleans pronunciation. One caveat is a minority of local New Orleanians do still pronounce it with a very quick, slight "ee-yuns" in "Orleans". I'm sure its a relic from the original French pronunciation. (I believe I've heard Harry Connick Jr. say that way many times. Very old-school urban New Orleanian way to say it.)
Great video as usual. Dear King, if you read this, could you consider making a video about the south eastern part of Alaska? I dont know anything about that area.
Unfortunately, since I haven't been there I won't be able to cover Alaska. I try to keep my videos to be about places that I've been to in the past 10 years and will only mention other places if it's in a more general sense.
i'm from baton rouge and you nailed it! for any tourist. ivar's(college) and hayride scandal(not as collegy) are great bars. and if you Wanna explore the scenery then go to freds on the river in port vincent louisiana.
Wow, great job on this vid! Only wished you’d mentioned more fun facts on “Funroe” lol. Delta Airlines founded, Coke was first bottled in Monroe, Centurylink is now Lumen, and more military history would have been nice. Northeast LA is more then Duck Dynasty , lol. Oh, and Natchitoches(Nack-a-tish) oldest settlement in All of Louisiana and home to the festival of lights Christmas, and the meat pies! And at least an over view of Alexandria! My home town would have been nice. Really, you can do just a vid just on Louisiana without NOLA.

The Acadians are important people in our local history, and we often feel a connection to Louisiana here in Nova Scotia. Happy you mentioned us (Nova Scotia) in this video. Cheers!
I just discovered your channel and am overjoyed! I’ve been binging on it for the last four hours.
love your profiles.!! I have been to 49 of 50 states. Never been to Alaska. I always learn a lot of great facts about all the states. Thanx Geo. King!!
Haven't been to Alaska myself. AK and Hawaii are the only two I haven't visited
Even though I've never been to New Orleans, or Louisiana in general, it's still one of my favorite cities, and the state is one of my favorites of all. I'm not even entirely sure why. Geography l and architecture mostly, but yeah.
I"m from Gonzales moved to Georgia about 30 years ago you gave me some insights of the state thank you
Dude great video! Coming from a Lafayette resident. Glad I just found your channel!
My wife is from Louisiana. Love visiting!
Laissez les bon temps rouler!
Aw I see that Fats Domino record back there 💚 subscribed. Cool video thanks
Kyle you really split the bark off the wood ... great presentation
I LOVE THIS, visited this summer, amazing place
Hey Geography King could you please do one of these for Pennsylvania?
Love these videos!
This Louisiana guy says, "Great job!" Keep it up. We geography junkies can't get enough!
Thank you! For the state profile videos, positive comments from people who live there are always appreciated.
WOW. New Orleans looks stunning in the snow. Probably my favorite american city to visit!
Nice video 🎥! Thank you for sharing with the rest of us the beautiful State of Louisiana ⚜️ from the point of view of disciplines like economy, food, & geography 🎥!
Great summation. Made me homesick. Can’t wait to get back home for the next visit.
Kyle, as a life long Louisiana resident, thus is great. One correction at 1:17. Not just the southwest, but also the lower NE 6 parishes (or upper SE parishes) as well, we call these the “Florida Parishes”
Also, while the City of Baton Rouge is declining, its resident parish of East Baton Rouge parish is growing and will probably soon over take my residence parish for largest population in the state.
At 27:00, fun fact: a red jambalaya with tomatoes is creole and found in New Orleans where a brown jambalaya has no tomatoes and is cajun.
Please keep making these!! My fav UA-cam series ever:)
This was very informative! My family lives in Louisiana, Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother. Lots of things I didn't know about the State. Thanks!
Great review. Some good knowledge if you are crossing through. Thanks.
To be honest... I love your way to teach interesting stuff. You kinda make me happy when I watch your videos. Keep going and I hope you all the best! Greetings from Finland! :)
Whose been here before 1k think I found this channel around then and have been so in love with it
Oh how I love Louisiana. The food, the history, the music, did I mention food? Great video, although you did make me hungry...I love the food!
Keep up the good work! It's getting more interesting every day.
Always a good day when there’s an upload from the king
Thanks Geography King. You get me interested in something I wasn't so into before.
Whoever gets the baby has to buy the next king cake
And the Vietnamese make the best king cakes.
@@parisire nah that’s cap
Mad props to reference The Bands Cripple Creek song. You sir earned my sub.
Hey! GREAT one. I have not been to La. But now it seems that I have been there.
Just want to point out the truth about our humidity in La. This summer the heat index reached 124°F one day while I was fishing. Many days you can walk outside and you immediately burst out sweating.
As part of the expatriated Porche and Thibodaux families, i do appreciate this vid. I haven't been to Louisiana yet, but it is on my bucket list.
Excellent video. Are you going to do this for all 50 states?
I'll eventually get to all of them but at the current rate it'll be a while before I get to a lot of them.
@@GeographyKing What States had you never visited?
I've been to all except Alaska and Hawaii. Would love to change that soon!
LA has been one of my favorite states for a long time.
Love your videos!! Can you please enable captions for this video?
Edit: Thanks! Appreciated.
This one is Fantastic I think you hit it out of the park.I hope you do every state to this level
The first few of these I did were much shorter videos with less detail. I was worried that 20+ minute videos would put people off. But after a lot of input from viewers I learned that people were ok with longer videos in this series.
Do a video about New Mexico please! I would be happy to provide images or historical references.
My dad's side of the family immigrated from Ireland during the potato famine to Louisiana, despite having family already settled in the northeast. They ended up settling in Illinois and later Missouri, but I thought it was fascinating they decided to go through Louisiana and not the northeast.
It was a major immigration point as well, just like NY
love the background noises when youre talking about the food lmao
You got that right, G. Matlock.
God's Country,🙏
I'm confused. Red River is in Northwest Louisiana. The Mississippi river is in the far Northeast corner.
Great job.
I'm from Baton Rouge, you did a great job on this video man.
Thank you! That's nice to hear from someone who loves there.
I might not live in Louisiana anymore, and I'll never live there again, but I gotta say man, it's pronounced "Laugh-ee-ett" not "Loff-ey-ett"
That is forgiven though, thank you so much for being so thorough. So many people forget about Hurricane Laura, and no one know how important Louisiana is to the food, shipping, and oil industry in general.
I also love your distinguishing of Creole and Cajun culture.
Cajuns have better food btw 😉
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
@@GeographyKing keep up the good work!
wow i had no idea just how waterlogged that entire state was. love all the geographic profiles!
Very interesting video! The map on the amount of waterways as well as the "real" map of Louisiana fascinated me.
19th century composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk was also a Louisiana native.
