If you follow us on Instagram or have skimmed through our website in the slightest, then you know that travel is a huge part of who we are. We’ve always put a priority on exploring the world and deeply value each and every single moment we’ve shared in the places we’ve visited. And while we’ve documented each of these occasions extensively through photos, we’ve always regretted not getting a chance to film our adventures. So when we booked our recent trip to Hawaii, we promised ourselves that we’d do whatever it takes to put a travel video together - one that would capture the essence and sights of the islands we were visiting (Big Island + Kauai) and the experiences we’d share. So we did just that.

You all really do get the best out of the C100 Mk II. Wow.

Dang you used the c100mkii for this? I’m always nervous about taking mine on travel because it’s so heavy

Wow, that was stunning! Really loved the opening shot of the ocean - those blues are unreal. Question: What do you guys use for those little pops of color throughout (light leaks/lens flares)? They really do make for a pleasant transition, and I enjoy seeing them in all of your films.

Aaron Rolston thanks! We use the light leaks pack available from rocketstock, although we’ve heard great things about - and have been eyeing - the collection available from lens distortions.

So good guys! Totally nailed the Hawaii vibes! Which canon cameras did you guys shoot this all on? Love my Nikons but makes me jealous to the epic dual pixel autofocus

How reliable has the Crane 2 been with the C100 Mk II?
I was originally going to buy the crane for mine, but friend of mine used to use the Ronin m which has similar capacity as the Crane for his C100 and C200. He had too many nasty scares of the motors losing control from the weight bouncing the lenses, almost breaking his gear. So spent the extra money on a MoVi Pro system. Would love to save $4,000 and be able to use the Crane instead.

ScatteredBrainMatt The Crane 2 is pretty good for vlogging and our own personal material but it’s got its quirks and, for commercial projects, we’d almost always use our Movi Pro. That being said, we’ve always heard not such good things about the Ronins and so have always stuck with the Movi line. The M5 is significantly less expensive than the pro and can handle the C100 pretty well.

Hi guys - great video - question do you use AF a lot on your C100 MKII.

Mark Shirley thanks! It depends on the setup: on the Movi Pro we have the C100 handle rigged to the side if the ring so we can toggle the AF on and off. Dual Pixel AF on the C100 only work in the middle of the frame, so when we want our subject on the third or anywhere else we’ll only use the AF to get clear focus, turn it off, and then reframe while keeping the same distance from the subject. On the crane, you’re pretty much stuck either using AF the whole time, or getting your focus and keeping the same distance. We relied on the AF a lot in this video.
