ERRATA: In the video, it is stated that Ukraine and Moldova will lose a significant portion of their population by 2000. Obviously, this is a mistake; the predictions are for 2100, not 2000.
Here are the countries in Europe where it is hardest to make ends meet. What is the situation in your country?

Australia has gone to the dogs. To purchase a very average house in Sydney it only takes 48 years to save enough for a deposit. So you’ll be about 60 years old and by then prices would have increased even more. Renting is no better for a crappy house you’re paying $3000+ a month. Also overpriced food and highest energy prices in the world

The biggest problem of those countries are low salary. As a Finn, i have studiet the situation in Moldova. Moldova is the second poorest country in Europe right after Ukraine. But the cost of living is cheap if it is compaired in Finland. Maybe some day i will sell everything that i own and move to Moldova. At least at the point i get retired from work. It would cost less than third to live there than here. Also there is some business options how to make little bit money at the same time to cover some of the costs.

I can not agree that the cost of living in Russia (1.62) is a bit higher than in Portugal (1.55). I'm from Russia and live for 1 year in Portugal. But I would compare Lisbon and Moscow.
The average salary in Lisbon is about 20-30% higher, but it's difficult to find a job there, unlike Moscow, where a lot of vacancies.
Rent prices are extremely high in Lisbon. Besides, the quality of houses is much lower. It's about 1500 EUR vs. 500 EUR.
If you decide to buy a flat, it'll be about 200k for a new building in Moscow and 350k for ugly old houses 1950s years in Lisbon.
Utilities 3-4 times cheaper in Russia taking into account unlimited central heating and gas consumption, while in Portugal, you will be cold.
Food is about 30% cheaper in Russia with great diversity compared to meager selection in Lisbon.
So, I would say in Russia, the coefficient is about 1.0

In 2024 it’s so hard to find a country where the salary is aligned with the cost of living.
People always say that the higher the salary the higher the cost of living, so no point to move but that’s far from real. In my country, Italy, very often salary is not paid or very low while cost of living is very high also because there is no way you can work or move around without owning a car.
In Czech Republic however, things are much better, although the cost of living is rising even here.
I am not sure about other countries but I think one of the best in Europe is Austria right now, assuming that you speak German, of course.
Western and South Europe are doing pretty bad on multiple levels, cost of living vs salary included.

How is this figured out again? Cost of living?? Take England and Bosnia. Someone in England having a spiffy job with a 100k salary, and someone in Bosnia with a $15k salary. How much is left after taxes? Now, the person in England typically will mortgage a home and will likely end up paying $4-5 thousand per month on mortgage, utilities, and insurance. Add $2 thousand a month for property taxes. Now the Bosnians for the most part already own their own homes. No mortgage. No property taxes. How much does each have left for spending?

In Portugal right know is just impossible to live. I make more than average with about 1300€/Mouth. One studio in Lisbon is 1400€ plus expenses. Most part of the people make 1000/1100. One bedroom is 650€. Its crazy ! I blame tourism but also an increase in Immigration, there is no houses for everyone.

In most of these countries, emigration is high, but so is the income that these emigrated citizens inject into GNI through investments, tourism or simply by sending money to their parents who need it for care and medical expenses. That is usually what patches this income/expenses disproportion. In 2022, 2.5 billion euros were recorded just in private transactions that people from the diaspora sent to relatives and friends in BiH (through banks).

I kind of compare this to Gaus' law: If the sum of flow in and flow out of a certain isolated part of space is not zero in total, there is either deposition or extraction of material/charge/energy. If the costs of living are higher than wages, it means people are losing their savings or their property, they are being impoverished, and when they don't have anything left, they will be unable to work and will die, sedated by substances, or desperately try to not die and become criminals. Therefore, anyone who is in such situation probably works multiple jobs, but that only appeases inelastic demand and causes further prices hike. So, inevitably, any profession or holder of a job in high supply will eventually have to emigrate, either from the country or from profession, or become an outcast (homeless). The problem is clearly lack of control (stabilizing) loop arm, a push-back, which leads to greater and broader problems, such as relaxation-type oscillations involving periods of conflict, or even revolutions if the relief vent is blocked by stubborn myopic hard stance.

Regarding Ukraine: I will say that half of the salaries here are in the "shadow", taxes are not paid on them or paid a little. Therefore they are not put in statistics. Of course, the people on average are not rich, but I don’t see total poverty. There are pensioners, of course, and they are most affected by the whole situation. What infuriates me in many ways is the ability of many Ukrainians to appear poor, but in fact have good income and a safety net.

You have to bear in mind that the average monthly income was used here. In Germany it is $4,500 and I don't know anyone who earns that much or more here in the countryside. And so many people in other countries won't come close to the average monthly income either. My mother lived in Hungary for almost five years and she says that in rural areas salaries of the equivalent of around $350-500 per month were rather standard (average salary in the country $1,300) and often several generations of a family lived in one house to be able to afford it at all and without growing vegetables, possibly keeping animals if possible (chickens etc.) it is hardly possible to survive because food prices are almost two thirds as high as in Germany.

Rent can't be calculated as a monthly cost in most of the Eastern Europe since most of the citizens of ex-Yugoslavia and the Eastern Block fully own the property they are living in due to the housing policies in former socialist countries. Also monthly expenses electricity/heating/broadband are quite cheaper compared to those in the major EU cities. For overall cost of living the biggest factor is home ownership. In eastern European countries most of the people own their homes and don't pay rent, for example home ownership in Kosovo is 97.8%, Albania 96.3%, Romania 95.3% while in Germany it's 49.1%, Switzerland 42.2%, Austria 54% and UK 65%.

Ussually houses with two flors, first, parrents, second kids and their families. At the moment. We have between 150 000 and 300 000 Russians living in Serbia. Mostly in two the bigest cities:
Novi Sad 360 000 people and Belgrade 1 688 000 people. It almost doubled appartment prices. But, Russians will be always WELCOME in Serbia, but our govermant shoud do something to redistribute new Russians from Turkey, Georgia, Uzbekistan across whole country. Quality of life is simmilar in almost every part of Serbia, exluding two the bigest cities, little bit hihger and far south of the country, little bit lower. But rest of the country can be very good place for living. I hope, we will accept more Russians from Turkey, Georgia,... and asian countries. First of all, they are Russians, ideal replacement for serbian aged population. Second. They pushed up appartment prices but they will push up in mutch higher mutch larger measure domestic economy. 30 000 new small business opened by russian citizens alredy. Turkey has problems with inflation. lso, they accepted 3 milion of syrian refugees, by menthality and religion must closer to the turskih people. And they do not know what to do with them. As residence of Lisbon i can assured you Portugal should be on this list where most of the people earn around 900 euro per month but you will not find a 1 bed room house even out of city center less than 1200 plus utilities minimum 300 euros.and most of the grocery item cost same as Luxembourg or swizerland. But 5 years before the scenario was completely different, thanks.

Grouping the Albanian Republic Of Kosova with the terror state of Serbia together is so insulting. So out of 27 EU states of whom 22 do recognize the Republic of Kosova & 5 do not suddenly - those 5 states (Greece, Slovakia, Spain, Romania & Cyprus) have more say over some of the world's most powerful EU states like Germany, France, Italy or Sweden who do recognize the Albanian Republic of Kosova. Shame on you.

Kosovo is not a UN member state so it shouldn't even be mentioned as a country. It is still disputed territory. So, be happy that it was mentioned. And it is not the Albanian Republic of Kosovo. It is the Serbian Province of Kosovo which was taken away from us by NATO, in complete violation of international law.
