Chelsea, you are super woman! I’ve never seen anyone get more done in one day than you! I so admire you for that!! Everything looks wonderful on your farm. You folks are such hard workers. Best always! ♥️🙏🏼♥️
My thoughts exactly. It's took me hrs to pick my hot peppers from just a few plants. At least it seemes like hrs lol, and I still haven't strung them up for drying 😢
My heart dropped when you said the high tunnel door was left open. So relieved for you that there was no damage to the tomatoes you worked so hard to grow! Congratulations on an incredible harvest!
Wrap green tomatoes in paper, like a piece of candy, and put them in a box, then into a dark cool space. You can then unwrap and have fresh tomatoes all winter. ❤
You have boundless energy and it's so fun to watch you do all that you do in your garden. I'm headed back to Cyprus soon (from the US) and inspired by you, I'm bringing about 50 packs of seeds of veggies and flowers for my landlord who has a massive garden and who maintains our garden at our house that's the MOST stunning ever with so many kinds of flowers, a koi pond, etc. I hope he likes all his new seeds :)
My niece is 3. We had a little watermelon like that. I tried to tell her it probably wouldn’t be good but she HAD to try it. After the second bite she said “can we give it to the chickens now”😂😂
Hello Chelsea, I admire you, the way you work in the fields or at home, I take my hats off to you. You make such delicious soups and sauces and so much more, sometimes I think I could just taste it. I'm already looking forward to your next video, I'm a big fan. Greetings from Belgium from Brigitte😍😀💗💗
U do so good in your. Gravest think of all the food u save not buying and give u that satisfaction of where your food comes from Well done Chelsea u are a good source of information
When I was growing up we had a big garden. One year an early unexpected frost came in and killed the tomato plants. So my Mom looked up a recipe to use them. She found a wonderful recipe for dilled green tomato pickles which quickly became my all time favorite pickle, and she canned so many wonderful jars of them . I figured out how to make refrigerator pickles with them that taste exactly the same (aka Quickles). Such a wonderful memory, and I am thrilled that I can recreate them. Btw I live in the desert of the USA and its still over 100F here
Glad you weren't devastated by the frost. Hope you remembered to turn heater on for the onions. A thought for using green tomatoes is a green enchilada sauce. You combine green chilies and green tomatoes together.
We are in zone 4b in Ontario and grew melons in huge tires for the first time this summer. The best melons I’ve ever tasted! The tires hold the heat and the water. Also transplanted strawberries into tires and planted celery and cauliflower in the spaces between the tires. Huge cauliflower harvest and beautiful celery harvest! Something to consider in our shorter growing seasons in Canada.
@@sarahp2400 we did consider leaching but these tires had been weathered for many years outside so any potential toxins hopefully had long gone. It sure didn’t seem to negatively affect the veggies.
When I saw the caption. I immediately felt sad for you. After watching further I realized your crop was saved. So much hard work and time put in. Hope all continues to go well for you until the season is over.
Chelsea, it always amazes me how much exercise you get, walking back & forth in the high tunnel as well as carrying each load of produce back & forth to your separating boxes. I'd pull a wagon or wheelbarrow down the aisles and save myself all of that bending over/squatting and trips up & down the aisles. Now in our 80s, we've learned to work smarter, not harder....
I'm watching from Bavaria, South Germany, near the Alpes. What fascinates me is that we have nearly the same wheather conditions here. And the vegetion looks similar. I so can feel with you, when you are looking after the destructions the frost has done and the sadness because the wonderful flowers will dead. And the relieve to discover that the main harvest is not destroyed. Here we have been lucky till now, only 3° C at night so far and during the day we go swimming.
The pumpkins are wonderful. The end of the garden always so hard but a well need rest. Canning season coming to an end but all that glorious amount done wow. I am at 120 jars and now tomatoes need done. So salsa and then the apple sauce. So hoping for close to 200 jars which is incredible for me. So glad you got me inspired again this year. hugs
PLEASE Chelsea make some SWEET green tomato pickles so that in Feb. you can have them at lunch along with hotdogs or sandwick of choice. The best ever.
Wow! Huge tomato harvest! I am so happy that your harvest didn't get damaged by freeze! Hopefully you turned on the heater in the greenhouse for the onions! Blessings to you and your family Chelsea ❤️🤗
Great 'end harvest' Chelsea! Here in New Hampshire, we are always getting ready for winter. I enjoy green tomato mincemeat, also in the Ball canning book. You need an automatic door closer for the high tunnel '-) That tunnel is the best for your growing zone. We are zone 4B and I would like one. Growing so much for your large family means you also get some help and that is a blessing. We are still haying today. So late with all the rain.
Beautiful harvest. You are such an amazing, hard working woman and your husband is always there when you need him. I’m sure he’s a hard worker too. Inspiring to say the least. Thanks for sharing.
Wow frost already. All those tomatoes are awesome and the relish looks delicious. My grandma made that haven't made it myself but remember it was delicious. Thank you for sharing.
Fried green tomatoes are lovely, but pickled green cherry tomatoes are better! I'm glad you were able to get them all harvested, and your pumpkins too.
I hope you enjoy fried green tomatoes as much as we do. They’re a little tart. I try to catch them just between green and starting to blush so they’re no so tart. Thank you for another great video! I only planted 42 tomato plants this year. The pink Brandywine were a favorite. Giant Crimson from MIGardner turned out great too. I had 4 that were that were almost 2 lbs each! I grew Red Crimson watermelon this year, so good freeze dried! I’ve still got 4 on the vines. 😊
Glad you were able to save your tomatoes! In the southern US people eat picallilly relish is often eaten as a condiment with peas--purple hull peas, black eyed peas, field peas (which some people still consider to be animal feed, as it was before the Civil War). 😃
Fried green tomatoes is my favorite movie too! And I’m from Alabama and I absolutely love fried green tomatoes! The best sandwich I make is a fried green tomato and bacon and lettuce sandwich! Just like a BLT except substitute the red tomato with fried green tomatoes cooked in the bacon grease!!!! You have to try it! You won’t be disappointed!!! You can also can green tomatoes for the winter
I live in Georgia and of course we live fried green tomatoes. We eat them year round! Sometimes you can sprinkle feta on them, some will be eaten with different sauces, ranch for instance or gorgonzola cheese.
Loved todays video. I have that Ball book and I am going to make some of that relish. I make a few differend relishes but I have not tried that one yet. Most of the preserves I do are done. I just have to show my two daughters how to make pickled beets and chow. Thanks Chelsea for showing us your bountiful harvest.
Thank you for sharing the ups and downs. You always brighten my day with every upload. I grew up in BC and we often went to Ashcroft Manor on our way between our home and cabin. So your clogs are so nostalgic for me. Wishing you a wonderful evening! 🥰
Pam here…I’m suprised you do not have some sheets or canvas for covering your stuff. My mom and I watched weather and we covered stuff, we had a stash of old sheets and such to use…
Kicking butt! I just wanted to add my 2 cents. Fried green tomatoes are amazing! All you need is flour, salt and pepper. Coat the sliced tomatoes in it and put it directly in the oil. I like using coconut oil… yum! ❤
My favorite relish!! The lady who always made it for me passed away years ago. It has been so long since I had some. I hope you love it too. It is fantastic!!!!
What a great harvest to end the garden season! It's such a game of chance this time of year guessing how hard the frost will be. For the last three years we planted San Marzano tomatoes and also found they took a long time to ripen on the vine and always succumbed to late blight. This year I decided to try Amish Paste tomatoes and I can't say enough good things about them. We got a huge harvest (still harvesting daily), they're generally much larger than the San Marzanos, ripen beautifully on the vine and despite an inordinate amount of rain this summer, there has been no sign of disease. That was our experience here in north coastal Nova Scotia, zone 6a. You must sleep well at the end of the day, Chelsea, you do so much! Love watching your videos!
Those pumpkins with the frost are still usable and edible, tho. Since they didn't get too damaged. Same this the tomatoes, if they got frosted. You can put them in things like salsa, spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce, meals in a jar, then you don't need to worry about the acid levels especially if you pressure can them for a minimum of 10 minutes.
I too love the movie Fried Green Tomatoes and eating them. Read the book it's even better. PS with all the canning you do have you ever thought of putting in a dumb waiter or lift to save time and energy carrying jars or even laundry, up and down the stairs?
There is a lady called tipper Presley and she grows those small watermelons . She lives in the appliçiàn mountains next to North Carolina. She says they are great they do not get much bigger
Brenda Gant on UA-cam makes the best and easiest FRIED GREEN TOMATOES RECIPE!!! She shows how to make them without having to turn them one at a time. SHE DEEP FRIES THEM! ❤❤❤
I grew San Marzano and Rio Grande this year (edmonton, ab). I found that although I got significantly more tomatoes from the San Marzano, the Rio Grande weighed more (same visual size), ripened earlier, and tasted better.
Great harvest, Chelsea, your gardening skills are soaring! Have you ever tried laying the green tomatoes out in your basement on newspapers to ripen? They will ripen over several weeks/months. I have had them almost until Christmas!
Hi Cynthia! Thank you so much! Usually when I have so many I just keep them in boxes in my kitchen. I then just pull them out as they ripen and process them right away.
Here in Red deer Alberta the frost has been light. My cherry tomatoes that were green we made mincemeat.❤ loved it so much I will be making a second batch . Don’t know what to do with all the green tomatoes as we have a bumper crop.😅
I grew San Marzano for the first time this year. I've grown Juliet for years. Very similar size and shape but the Juliet is much sweeter. I think they are both paste. You have a very good channel!!
Such a blessing that your tomato harvest was spared from the frost! I'm so excited for you and your family to try fried green tomatoes! They are just- there's nothing like them. I highly recommend The Hillbilly Kitchen YT channel for her recipe. She has a complete tutorial on traditional Southern fried green tomatoes. Definitely get yourself some really fine corn meal if you can, it makes a difference.💞

MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME IS “ FRIED GREEN TOMATOES “ ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I just love you and that you said that 😃❤️😁
Wow 400 lbs of tomatoes is OUTSTANDING!!! 🍅
Green tomatoes make good pies I heard!
You do a lot, Chelsea! 😊
Wow! A killing frost already! Here in central Texas we are still waiting for fall to kick in! 🔥
Here in spain there's still summer.
We're in Texas panhandle. Still pretty warm here but it's at least a dry heat. 😂
Being a southern woman I love fried green tomatoes, therefore I slice and pickle a few jars with some fresh dill for frying up in the winter months.
Wrap green tomatoes in paper, like a piece of candy, and put them in a box, then into a dark cool space. You can then unwrap and have fresh tomatoes all winter. ❤
Loved seeing those sunflowers on the shelf above the stove Chelsea.
For the green tomatoes- try a green tomato pie. Make it like an apple pie. Really good
You have boundless energy and it's so fun to watch you do all that you do in your garden. My green tomatoes have always ripened inside for me, we had tomatoes one year all the way past Christmas .
Glad you weren't devastated by the frost. Hope you remembered to turn heater on for the onions. A thought for using green tomatoes is a green enchilada sauce. You combine green chilies and green tomatoes together.
I've seen folks make salsa verde using just green tomatoes, no tomatillos. I prefer green enchilada sauce over red, myself.
Fantastic harvest & recipe; thanks for sharing! Blessings to everyone 🤗💕🇨🇦
Don't forget to roll up the sides of the high tunnel inwards like you were planning last year ❤
Beautiful harvest! Glad you did not lose any tomatoes with the frost!
Chelsea I am amazed at how much you take care of your garden and how much knowledge you share I am glad you didn’t lose your tomatoes and pumpkins
So glad you are able to enjoy your sunflowers a bit longer.❤️
Fried green tomatoes are so good. You will love them.
Amazing amount of energy Chelsea!

What varieties did you grow? I’m also in Ontario, zone 5b. Thanks
That's a very clever idea! Have you looked into potential problems with the tires putting toxins into the soil? I'm very curious...
@@brendabrenda413 I’ll check our seed order list and let you know. We only grew one variety as an experiment for this year.
@@sarahp2400 we did consider leaching but these tires had been weathered for many years outside so any potential toxins hopefully had long gone. It sure didn’t seem to negatively affect the veggies.

I grew watermelon for the first time this year. It was Georgia Rattlesnake and was the BEST watermelon we have ever tasted!! Highly recommended!
I'm drooling at the thought of Piccalilli Relish. It's about time I made a batch.
Golly, i'm so glad all your tomatoes didn't get ruined! We also have frost here already! It's time to pack the garden away and batten down the hatches

Watching in France on vacation.
