  • Kume Island (Kumejima Town) in Okinawa is home to many cultural and historic sites, however, its largest resource is the ocean surrounding it. With the largest Deep Seawater capacity in Japan, Kumejima has built up fishery, industry, and now power from the ocean resource. Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) uses the temperature difference between surface and deep water to create power. Since 2013, the Okinawa OTEC Demonstration Facility on Kumejima has produced renewable clean energy that can operate 24/7. For more on the future of deep seawater use and OTEC on Kumejima visit gosea.info/en/ For more information about OTEC Okinawa or to schedule a tour visit otecokinawa.com...
