As an Afro-Panamanian, I love getting a glimpse into the culture (music, dance, etc.) of Africans throughout the diaspora. Our presence, especially throughout Latin America, is not often featured. Thank you.
Denise Archbold it's so awesome to see this. This influences the music I make. Love to get around the energy surrounding this. I too share your heritage.
Denise; I completely Agree with your thoughts. The media in our respective countries portray us as euro-centric people. or worse as Chimamada Ngozi Adichie would Say the Danger of the single Story. I watched a video about a now prominent Afro-Panamanian woman Architect who use to doubt her self and knock her self down because she is black. She didn't have self love. It's so easy to go down this path when you're getting knocked down daily, overlooked for promotions, racialy profiled constantly and have access to the basic needs for our sustainabililty. We have not had a black pride movement in Latin America, but through the power of technology we see how impactful and beautiful black people really are. Today more Latinos are re-embracing their black heritage throughout out the diaspora of Latin America; and its videos like this that reinforces our similar plights in every Latin country. Did you know that in countries like Mexico, their constitution does not recognize black Mexicans; there fore they are the most impoverished people in the Americas. Civil rights activists are fighting to gain recognition because it means access to social economic programs, it means access to good education, and access to medical. Black townships all over Mexico do not even have a hospitals or paved roads in many townships. Presently 2019. Look it up. I say this to say that we have a lot of work todo.

Amazing documentary. Im familiar with the African roots in Cuba and Brazil, but no so much Peru. The stamp dancing is similar to tap in America. Love how it all comes together. One ❤...

Thank you for sharing this. It is sometimes hard for me to understand the context of fusion musics. This set a serious tone and I'm very grateful for it. I need to get a hold of some tracks to share.
Ronal Nunez systematic racism against people of African decent still exists in Latin America just like in America if not more. Also, for the amount of discrimination and violence we faced for celebrating our culture during and after slavery we deserve to be proud of and exclaim our heritage. You saying that sounds just like the white people in America saying “they don’t see color”.
@@Nini-rl7tc your assuming everyone has you mindset and they don't not all africans are proud africans like yourself some of them living in foreign countrys adapted the nationality and culture of the country but if you going to assume everyone is racist when in reality they are not than that's the wrong African mindset that keeps you slaved into your own assumptions

It is horrible that the Afro-Peruvian music's (or the Creole music's) legacy has been negativaly affected by the invasion of Indian migrants from the mountainous regions, whose musical apathy contrasts with the musical passion of the coastal Afro-European population...
Ridiculous, the Indians are the majority of inhabitants and the original inhabitants of all those lands, be careful what you say... Afros have their origin on the other side of the ocean and are a minority
Im Peruvian, and realized that I prefer my afro-Peruvian roots. I love the beats and the rhythm of the music as well as the choreography.
I am peruvian too!!!
me too! both my parents are peruvian but my dads afro peruvian and my mom has european descent , kinda crazy.
