Awesome look. I discovered a trick when designing a Murphy bed using gas pipe. If your vertical pipes were 3/4” with T’s top and bottom, you could mount two horizontal 1/2” pipes stood off the wall slightly that would pass through the 3/4” T’s. Now your racks can swivel and slide. Next we have to figure out a rack that can hold a rear wheel and we’re really saving space!
I wish you could add a photo. I am hoping to build this for 5 bikes (!!!), and am hoping it’ll stand up to the test of time. I’ve already re insulated and redrywall the garage wall, as well as adding electrical outlets. I’m hoping to do this right and keeping my mistakes down to a minimum!
I store my bikes this way. I put a micro fiber rag over the grips/levers to keep them from scratching each other. Mainly they are to help keep us from getting a bar end to the face though.
Great work. Only thing I would change is the width of the holding rails. Could be better to make them half inch or more wider. Would be a shame if they snapped from the weight of the bike after all your hard work. 👍
Pro-tip: When gluing end-grain, especially with oak, put some glue on the end grain and massage/press it in with your finger so it will absorb, wait a few minutes, and then apply more glue and assemble the whole thing. The end grain of wood is basically just a bunch of tiny straws, so it tends to soak up glue, and as a result the glue joints tend to fail. By presoaking them with glue and letting it harden up a bit you can reduce the likelihood of running into problems with it.
Hi, can you show us the exact dimensions? Especially how high the vertical cutout must be. And how much distance do you have between 2 holders so that no bike is damaged?
Hey, I just found this and I am trying to be cheap and make about 20 of these for our High School Mountain Bike Team. The link does not work anymore is there a way to get the drawings and cut lists for this?
Being so young and enjoying the craft of Woodworking is impressive and You're an inspiration for all your age. Your patience and discipline is next level. Keep it up young man, you have a bright future
Does anyone here know the overall length of the oak piece used? 1”x6” (actual is 3/4” x 5 1/2”) x ?? I believe it’s 26” + 5” + approx 24” = 55” In Canada so I think this project is going to really add up but still hoping to give it a try!
Hey man love the build, I was just starting to plan a swivel rack for my bikes and this is perfect. Thought you might want to know the term to "level side to side" is to "plumb" . Great work and thanks for the sketchup plans!
I was very nervous putting my brand new beach cruiser on this rack. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxG6JIgwJhur8_Rg8UeQ3EmePzi_wSncL8 But after reading many reviews I decided to get this one and take a chance. When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...
Great video. It inspired me to build my own to replace the floor based bike storage I have in my work shop. I actually built four of the racks using different types of wood. First rack I built out of Red Oak. It's definitely strong and holds my Specialized Roubaix with no problem, Rack # 2 I built out a Red Oak & Poplar. Again nice and strong and holds my DIY Bamboo Gravel Bike with no issues. Racks 3 & 4 are built out of Birch and are for my Mt. Bikes. I built all four over a period of 5 days and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I gained just over 20" of floor space and the bike storage looks 100% nicer. Thx for the video once again
Would you consider making these as kits? Like you get the hardwood, cut them so that they just need to be assembled, and then package them and sell them? I would definitely order one! (I don't have the tools to make this but really want it!)
2 Quick Questions: 1. Where are you located? 2. Are we allowed to come and use this trail or is the trail just for you, family, and friends? P.S: I’m a new subscriber
10:00 I didn't see any, but you might want to add washers onto the bottom of the piping, so that the wood swivels on the washer and not on the wood base! If you want to save cash, use 2 plastic washers stacked on each other, cut out of a soda bottle.
Hey Seth! Fellow Missourian/MTB girl here! Just wanted to say that the production quality of your videos is outstanding! Also love your passion for woodworking and how you’ve integrated it into your mountain biking hobby. I enjoy both as well!
Video suggestion: Try and make a kicker ramp that can be disassembled and re assembled without using any screws and you can wear it as a backpack for transportation, very similar to the mtb hopper ramps.
Love your woodwork videos. And really appreciate that you did it with hand tools as well. FYI: checking that something is "level side to side", ie perfectly vertical, is called "plumb". There's a tool called a "Plumb Bob" that you can use to check if something is plumb.
just finished making this and it has saved me tons of space I previously couldn't fit my car in my garage and have my bikes in there, after making these I can now have my car in my garage also. :)
Seth, dig your content! BTW, has anybody told you that you look like a young Cory Wells, the lead singer from the rock band Three Dog Night? Wierd statement, I know. Anyway keep your content coming!
Don't need wood at all for this project. Use larger galvanized pipe for the bike hanger with PVC sleeves (unions) inside the metal pipe which will act as a spacer between the metal pipe.
Studs in your wall, how cute :) We build out of brick on the other side of the pond. Did you not learn anything from "The three little pigs" ? :D PS. Love your videos man.
horrible for a van. in a van things need to be very secure and there is such limited space that the annoyance of taking the front wheel off is worth it. Just build a sliding tray and use fork mounts.
The Wood Clip you made on your Instagram was SICK!
Definitely going to build this look sick and saves space

Finally! Someone using the draw knife in a video....
Good Job.
I store my bikes this way. I put a micro fiber rag over the grips/levers to keep them from scratching each other. Mainly they are to help keep us from getting a bar end to the face though.
I've been holding onto some oak for "a project" lol. I now have that project. Nice work!!!
Great, just what I need, another project. 😉 This looks amazing! I will definitely be copying your design.
Great work. Only thing I would change is the width of the holding rails. Could be better to make them half inch or more wider. Would be a shame if they snapped from the weight of the bike after all your hard work. 👍

Dude that was awesome
Thumbs up! My wife has been after to hang up our ebikes! Great timing for a winter project. Thanks
Cool build man, very well designed 👏
Hi, what type of timbers are good choices to make a vertical bike stand?
I need one of these!
Very Nice job
Very inspiring, great job!

Super cool bro. I guess I found a new channel to follow🤷🏽♂️
Nice.
April Wilkerson just released something similar.

A great idea. And done very well. Can you sell me two pieces and send them to Germany? Greetings Mike
Looks dope ;)

Well I just bought five of them a week ago so your bit late
Good build though
Slip the rack on the pipe. Is it just me?
"as close as the studs in your wall"... bro
brick walls...
Get a hammer drill and masonary bit to drill the holes, then get brick anchors and you’ll be able to put them anywhere you want on your brick wall.
Masonry screws!
@@RideAlongside that was the point bro
Super nice!! (But I’m gonna buy the one on Amazon)
Seths bike Racks
hmmm. i've heard this way of storage aren't good for the shocks. i wouldn't do it.
Dude, that'so sick! You give me so much inspiration!!
Massive respect for showing construction using hand tools and basic methods! You prove we dont need a fully stocked woodshop to make something great!
Right, I particularly enjoyed the part where he pulled out a dovetail jig and Dewalt router with dovetail bit and did it by hand ;)
Yeah but I still want a wood shop... With all the new and old tools of course
16-24 inches apart, just because a wall is 24” on center doesn’t mean a house wasn’t built correctly just different code requirements
this is exactly what I need. Btw, do you think PVC is an alternative option for building the wooden part?

The production quality on this episode is super clean!! Love those sounds of the wood creaking and cracking, so good.
I love your vid’s

I've watched this twice and I'm still impressed. Suck part is I just remodeled my garage last year. Might have to rethink.

It's PILOT HOLE - not pre-drill - pre drilling is anything you do before drilling , such as walking the dog , drinking coffee etc

Quick way to get the inside radius-you can drill a hole using a hole saw (whatever the radius is). Then all you have are the straight cuts.
Would you consider making these as kits? Like you get the hardwood, cut them so that they just need to be assembled, and then package them and sell them? I would definitely order one! (I don't have the tools to make this but really want it!)
Isn’t there a problem with hanging vertically bikes with hydraulic brakes?

Does storing your bike like this damage the fork seals ? seems like all that weight pulling on the stanchion could damage it over time
Hi, good job, unfortunately, the side with the instruction is out of order. 😞

Lol makes the best bike rack when his sponsor makes them
No way I could EVER do this! But I would love to buy some from you 👀👀👀
Yea .. you gotta have a complete woodshop as a prerequisite for this project
Whoa, this is awesome! Game changer for bike storage, no question!
It looks like the instructions link is broken. Do you mind reissuing it, please?
What oak lumber did you use for the build? 8ft 2x6?
Dude! I’ve been trying to figure out how to build these. Thanks Seth!
-Nick 😃👍
I would love to have one of this on my wall, great diy tut.

This is an awesome idea. I was impressed by the inginuity and skill.
Thanks so much, I've been looking for something to hold my bikes that was out of the way and now I can build one that just doubles the fun!
Question!! What do you think it cost for all the material to make it? Awesome vid...

Nice work dude, great to see use of hand tools !

These are great! I have been looking all over You Tube and these look the best by far
When finished riding, I take apart my bike and store under the sink in the kitchen.
why?
Maybe he just doesnt bike a lot so it's worth his time to save space

This video is awesome
Solid video saved me money
I like these so much more than the Steadyracks I have!
I like the idea, I wish I have space in my small apartment for this.
Beautiful racks. Although I wouldn't put so much details (like dovetails) for something mounted in my garage.
Super nice! I wish you made that video a month and a half ago. I bought a bunch of bike hooks because i couldn't find a DIY swivel mount option.

Great build, couldn't find the plans. Would love them to make a few of these. Big Thx
TY!! I wanted to diy a swivel houseplant shelf but I couldn't figure out what people were using to make it lol
Love the "Woodwright Shop" background music 🎵🎶 while using the draw knife 😁
Would you have preferred a rack on rails that slide horizontally? Would that save more space?
Not an angle.. it's a bevel. Still love you though.. 🤣🤣🤣
Hi
Hello
Studs in your wall, how cute :) We build out of brick on the other side of the pond. Did you not learn anything from "The three little pigs" ? :D PS. Love your videos man.
Dude, you are a craftsman. Impressive for a young kid. Good job.
Mudguards unwelcome. Fab for any other bike.
Has anyone seen the current price of oak boards? These racks would cost more than the bikes I'm hanging on them!
This is some insane craftsmanship. Amazing job! I’m going to do the same thing but with a sheet of plywood, some screws, and a jig saw! 😂
This doesn't quite do it for my bike storage problems. How about next time show us how to build a Tardis.
Hello there. Great bike stand! Might be good for a van build?
horrible for a van. in a van things need to be very secure and there is such limited space that the annoyance of taking the front wheel off is worth it. Just build a sliding tray and use fork mounts.
I think you may have made an editing mistake at 0:55, I might be wrong though, love your videos anyway thank for uploading
