It's weirdly true. In life you grow older then it turns into lazy workers and hard workers. The second a hard worker decides to coast one day. All hell breaks loose.
I actually had my teacher be cool w my situation. Prick in my class kept hitting me and shit, and, being a big dude 6ft 3, I was expected, by literally everyone, to be able to take hits. Well, one day, I wake up, and the very first thought in my head was “if he hits me today, I’m throwing fucking hands.” Fast forward to class, and I’m talking to a homie when douche strolls up, cuts my sentence short, places his hand on my shoulder like we’re buddies, and says the sentence “wanna see how hard I can hit somebody?” To the dude I was talking to. (You don’t wanna do this today, dude.) was my thought as he punched me in my side. I threw three punches. Only three. Quick. One in his shoulder, his side, which made him fall to his knee, and for a brief moment, he looked up at me as I threw my third punch. The Halo Reach armor lock animation played thru my head and every instinct told me to throw my punch as hard as I could into his fuckin cheek. I knew it was gonna fuck him up bad cuz I was not holding back. In the final moment, I redirected my punch to his shoulder. Grabbed my bag, turned around and walked away from the whole situation. Not 30 seconds and I’m talking to the teacher. “Listen, I saw the whole thing-“ (Great, so I’m gonna start heading for the fucking offic-) “If you need a second to cool off out in the hall, I completely understand.” (This guy serious?) “S’long as he stays away from me, I’ll be fuckin’ good.” “Okay.” He turned around and let me continue class. I hated that teacher with every fiber of my being before that day. Earned every ounce of my respect. Tl:dr; teacher saw me stand up for myself and offered me a second out in the hall to cool off before continuing class.
As a mom, I teach my kids to stand up to bullies. My rule for school is, don’t be the first one to put your hands on someone, but if they put their hands on you first, it’s fair game to f#%k them up!! Even if the school chooses to suspend them, they will not get in trouble at home for defending themselves or defending another child. If the school wants to give them a few days vacation home with me, we will have a good time. My MIL took my husband on an out of town trip to visit her best friend and his godmother when he got suspended for punching a bully in the face. They can easily get over the fear of being punched in the face, because it doesn’t really hurt in the moment when adrenaline is pumping. They can meet words with words, because they are quick witted, but pain is temporary, and they need to neutralize the threat if things turn physical. We live in an ugly world, and thinking you can get through it without ever having to fight for yourself is delusional.
