Nottingham Trams Feb 2013

A lunchtime walk from "Forest" to "Nottingham Trent Uni" stops on a bitterly cold February Saturday saw a brisk service of trams. The white flecks in the first few minutes are not neg sparkle but snow.

Living on the Isle of Wight I did not realize that trams could go up such steep hills, let alone stop, pick up more passengers and then continue on up the hill.
Open up the old branch lines and put trams on them.

I just wonder how long Trams will stay in fashion for. Back in the 50s councils finally got rid of what was left because of cost of maintenance of track and either side of it. yet much of Leeds was on reserved track as probably were many other towns.
Puzzles me to wonder why councils were so narrow minded in the short term, yet now they are spending Billions on new systems which reflect on why the councils wanted to get rid of the trams in towns in the first place. They must be expensive to ride on now I imagine. At one time it was the cheap working man's transport. Being a country dweller it totally fascinates me.
