There were many old military forts, garrisons and blockhouses scattered all throughout the interior of Florida during the three Seminole Indian Wars from 1816-1858.
Most were built during the Second Seminole War from 1835-42.
Relic hunters are still finding military artifacts including uniform buttons, hat and breast plates, gun parts, musket balls and anything else that a metal detector can detect.
A few of us have been lucky enough to find coins the soldiers dropped. My buddy found 2 seated dimes, a bust half dime and a $2.5 gold coin! All dated 1840 and older!
Florida has an interesting history and I really enjoyed learning about it while finding the physical evidence!
