Well, I don't understand Hungarian language - but I looked for it once, so I know that:
Nyugati - west
Keleti - east
You can travel across even 4 countries - with Hungaria (EC 172 or EC 173, operated with cars by MÁV, respectively MÁV START that operates passenger trains after dividing of MÁV). Train goes only once per day in each direction.
Hungaria goes from Budapest Nyugati (formerly Keleti, before it was redirected) to Hamburg - Altona via (rewritten from current timetable - but it is a bit different from common that counts with stop in Kolín and Praha hlavní nádraží):
(HU)
Vac
Nagymaros-Visegrad
Szob
(SK)
Štúrovo
Bratislava hlavná stanica
Nové Zámky
Kúty
(CZ)
Břeclav
Brno hlavní nádraží
Praha - Holešovice (Praha hlavní nádraží is avoided, from Praha Libeň train goes directly to Praha Holešovice)
Ústí nad Labem hlavní nádraží
Děčín hlavní nádraží
(DE)
Bad Schandau
Dresden Hbf
Dresden-Neustadt
Berlin Südkreuz
Berlin Hbf (tief)
Berlin-Spandau
Wittenberge

Büchen
Hamburg-Bergedorf

I really love České Dráhy. Superb video, Thibault!! Regards from São Paulo, Brazil!
In czech republic we dont really like ČD

4:07 If you think that cuz of the "Oddíl pro cestující s dětmi" sign with a picture of Elfík (Elfie) the Elephant, it just means that it is a coach for people with children.
You can hear your Schnitzel in the pan beeing freshly pepaired when you order. You get a real glass for your beer. Love MAV, CZ and PKP. They are simply great.
At 1:35 the old engine is the V43 (nicknamed: Szili), and at 4:19 the livery is for the celebration of the founding of the state by King Saint Stephen. MAV sometimes does custom liveries for certain occasions (mainly for Traxxes).
And Taurus engines as well
That Szent Istvan livery must be the coolest I've ever seen!
Same goes for PKP's Eurosprinters (from Siemens, German-built, for polish market, it is known as Husarz or EU44), Griffins (from NEWAG, Polish-built, EU160) and Gamas (from Pesa, also polish-built, SU160). PKP had even action called "Kolej na 2012", which means: Rail for 2012 (of which 2012 is a reference for Euro 2012, which was held in Poland and Ukraine). During this action, they temporarily repainted Griffins and 104Es (from nowadays Alstom Wrocław, formerly Bombardier, Adtranz-Pafawag and Pafawag) to show both flags of contestants, as well as stadiums. These paintings were:
EU44: Poland, Russia, Denmark, Ukraine, Germany, Czechia, PGE National Stadium, Tarczyński Arena, Polsat Plus Arena, Inea Stadion.
104E: England, Croatia, France, Greece, Spain, Netherlands, Ireland, Portugal, Sweden, Italy.
Each of trains, which were painted for contestants' countries, were painted for countries' flags and a Europe's map (with country's location painted in white) and slogan: "The rail moves its' football fans" in countries' most populous languages and polish (Ireland and England are notable cases, as both have the same most populous language, in this case, English), whilst trains painted for stadiums had stadiums painted at each side of loco, with logos of them, the same slogan, but only in polish, URLs and cities' logos (in case of Gdańsk and Poznań), every stadium had respective colo(u)r, these are: National Stadium - Sky Blue-White, Tarczyński Arena - Indigo-Red, Polsat Plus Arena - Yellow-Red, Inea Stadion - Indigo-Black. You can see them on these pages: pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siemens_EuroSprinter and pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siemens_EuroSprinter.
Budapest is a beautiful city, railway stations and buildings are elegant, the same applies to Bratislava and Prague....railway travel in Europe is romantic
0:17 cute smiling trams
Vyash Tuijnman look like the ones in Melbourne
They're the same type (Siemens Combino) which are sold to numerous countries including mine :)
The second-class compartment cars are former from ÖBB, they sell it because of the railjets. I really love this carriages, they are so comfortable and spacious
These coaches are not going to be there for long. They will be replaced by new similar to railjet and they will be transfered to trains inside of Czech Republic.
@@guesepecz9191 Yeah, these are the most favorite compartments but once CD receives their new ordered Railjet-like trainsets, they will replace these ex ÖBB cars on EC routes while ex ÖBB cars will move to domestic routes.
@@guesepecz9191 Eventually the new Railjet-like sets will stay on domestic lines. 😄 So these ex ÖBB coaches will just get some ČD touches (Wifi, LCD displays, new seat covers) and will stay on the Eurocity lines. :) Greetings from Prague.
The first class gets full in the Czech Rep. (especially from Brno to Prague)
If you want to see some nice landscape, take a train to Dresden (Berlin) from Prague. Thats really nice.
Yeah true, it's so cool there
I've ridden in that train. It's amazing
This so-called souvenir shop is part of MAV Nosztalgia, which organises trips with historical trains throughout Hungary.
3:42 Able to go 200 Kmph, but they don't go in that speed. Czechia (my homeland, as you may think) doesn't have any high-speed railroads. Mainlines are capable of only 160 Kmph
The "old engine" is a MAV class V43 (now labelled as 431) "Szili" (name referred to the silicon semiconductors) built by GANZ between 1963 and 1982. These are one of the oldest locomotives to work under the 25 kV 50 Hz alternating current, which was a new invention these times.
And about the ČD compartment coach: yes it is identical to ÖBB, because it was bought second hand from ÖBB. :) The Czech carriers (ČD and RegioJet) actually bought the whole ÖBB coaching stock when the Austrians changed from loco-hauled EC trains to Railjet and sold their cars. The other (saloon) 2nd class carriages in this train are the rebuilds of old East German made coaches. The only two original (newly build) ČD cars in this train are the restaurant and the first class Ampz coach (it's not Bmz, this is the label for the 2nd class compartment cars).
Restaurant car was made in East German too. Its WRmee814 class and it was first ČD car with air conditioning. Class Bdpee231 is originally from CZ, made in Vagónka Studénka.
@@ondrejlakatos4977 oh it's true. I didn't look well and thought it is a WRmz815. But aren't 814s all going to be rebuilt into the ARmpee cars?
the BMZ61 you showed with the identical seats to the ÖBB one is in fact an ex ÖBB Bmz61 coach. They were sold to CD some years ago. They refurbished them a bit and are now using them on long distant trains
A nice guy and nice videos! Congratulation!
The big blue locomotive that stood next to the traxx was called Szili. Thats made by Ganz.
1:35
V43 (431, 432, 433) Nickname: "Sili" (silicon rectifier locomotive), "Parrot", "Tabby" and "Swallow" it is a German license locomotive.
Type label: Ganz-Mavag VM14
Maximum permitted speed: 130 km/h
Bogie type: Jacquemin
Performance: 2200kW
Made: 1963-1982
Well actually kinda resembles the RC4 in Sweden and the AEM-7 in the US.
let me a correction. The biggest river in Europe isn't Danube, but Volga.
5:24 that means "Power socket under the seat"
I’ve tried České Dráhy from Hamburg Altona to Prag and it was a Great aventure
I just bumped in to this nice channel. Good job!
Encore une fois une belle vidéo sur les trains de l'Europe de l'est. Merci pour cette expérience du voyage
The old electric locomotive is a Classic design of MAV, by the 50 C/s Group of Europe/ AEG....the first 7 locomotives of this class came from the mentioned Group-they could operate on two voltages in Hungary, 16kV and 25kV AC but 16 kV does not exist today.....more engines of this type were made in Hungary, by Ganz-Mavag only for 25kV supply, axle pattern: B'B' (monomotor type)
Zásuvka pod sedačkou means powersocket under the seat
Les trams la bas ont l'air de bonne humeur.
The most gorgeous train ever!
In Budapest You missed a rare thing. Polish build 111A cars owned by MAV around 2:20.
Great video again , love your trip reports
Great video - very enjoyable.
The 2 people disliking this must be Boeing shareholders.
haha that's funny
Or unhappy ZSSK customers. Their trains burn very often
Nice video, and hello from Brno (czech republic)! :)
Zdravím z Prahy :)
Fun Fact: those trams in Budapest look like the D1/D2 ones in Melbourne, Australia
The tram is Siemens Combino supra.
8:03 "Don't understand why, the price for 1st class was worth it"
The Hungarian is a poor people. We have little money. Save what you can. first class is very expensive for a Hungarian. He rather sits on the floor. You are a foreigner, you have a lot of salary compared to us. Hungarians have very little salary. I never traveled first class because it is very expensive.(Google translator)
This train usually carries very little Hungarians... mostly backpackers
Thats not really true.
And a lot of Hungarians travel on this train
1st class isnt so expensive

The V 43 ist based on swiss Re 4/4 I and german "Einheits"-locomotives like E10/110, E40/140, E41/141 and E50/150 from the 50ties. The next electric series by MAV is the 6-axled V63 from 1974.

Hi, friend. One month ago I used czech train from Prague to nearby (73 km). I baught a 2nd class and You know, after our russian suburban trains it was the best I've seen in my life:) We have very good long-distance trains. But suburban (distance max 150km) are........... (censured):)))))
My best wishes
150 km suburban :-D Russians are like Americans of Europe.
@@Pidalin jooo. Dlouhé tratě u nás.... Velmi dlouhé.
44 euros is expensive for central europe ! People travel 2nd class because cost half of the 1st class !!! If you go to Russia you can book the entire Transiberian 3rd class sleeper from 70 euros per bunk from Moskow to Vladivostok and it takes 7 days with free warm water for ramen and tea ! ... now that it is cheap...don't forget to buy dry ramen noodles , tea , canned fish and dry fish from Moskow because fresh food will last only one day ! You can buy from train or train stations along the way but it will cost extra ! Some babuskas will offer you some vodka and by the 4th day you will subcomb to their charms and you will say fuck it...and you will !!!
5:43 Ah, let me just go to the restaura-
*locomotive*
I would recommend to try the czech Pendolino or Leo Express. It is fascinating.
Damnit. Ian Allen Publishing is closed. They used to have a few railway bookshops, including one on Station Approach near Manchester Piccadilly.
Last at that Budapest station in 1977! A different world!
I saw your channel for the first time. You record very interesting reports. I will watch yours interesting trip reports.
To be clear, this train is not the most luxurious ČD product but it serves well as you can see based on the occupancy. Also, in most ČD trains, the First class is usually bought just to avoid crowds and commuters, there are only minor differences like 2-1 seats vs 2-2 seats (but the same ones). Even in the second class you'll find good seat pitches, power outlets, Wifi, portable Mini-Bar.
The best products are still Railjets between Prague-Vienna and Pendolinos between Prague-Ostrava-Kosice. When travelling by EC trains, I always look for Bmz coaches (modernized or original ÖBB, doesn't matter). If nothing's available I go for a standard/relax class Regiojet train (private CZ/SK carrier).
Hungary, Slovakia and Czech republic is in CENTRAL europe !!!!
Yes, calling it eastern Europe is an ignorance.
@Keyrings Locks Europe is some 5000 km from Portugal to Ural. Czechia's capital lies in the western half of it or, also, in the western part of the middle third. Therefore it is western or central Europe. So much for your "geographical reference, which is wrong". It is even more inaccurate, if we go speak about cultural aspects, because then Czechia is not an eastern Europe at all. Speaking Slavic language does not change anything on that.
Keyrings Locks is wrong. CZ, PL, SK, H, DE, AT are in Central. Eastern is BY, UA and RU.
Who cares ? the location doesn't prove the level of development of the country
Kikin Technovsky Gonna cry or what?
Good video. I enjoy trains a lot! A small suggestion though, can we not turn around a lot in the train while filming? It makes me a little dizzy to watch.
Like from Hungary.
I took the early train from the opposite direction before (Bratislava to Budapest) but my carriage was older. It was very packed with domestic commuters (Slovak commuters) at first, but after halfway thru the journey it was much emptier.
Tu devrais essayer les nouveaux trains IC+ de MÁV Start. Ils sont magnifiques 🤩
Great video Mr friend 👍🏻😎🇬🇧
3:30 Oh, stop it you! (◞థ‿థ)ᴖ Anyway, there was a competition for the design, won at the time by the Najbrt design studio. The same core group of people under differnt studio name recently won the new scheme for Prague integrated transport system, the PID. As for the Skoda 109 E locomotive, also known as class 380 - design of those was subcontracted to Porsche design. While they lack the timelles beauty of say, the Sir Keneths Grants Intericty 125, they certainly do look good especialy in wihite.
I always go in the compartments in these trains
I also love our blue and white ČD colors (this design language is called "Najbrt". But I kinda miss the old green and white, so I am very happy when i sometimes see them. I hope you will go here by travell across the full country and review as many trains as possible, And meaby not only ČD.
CD looks good! I was viewing a highlight on your Instagram story of this trip and didn't realise you'd actually made the tripreport yet...🤦♂️
The locomotive is from the MAV Class V43, see Wikipedia for further info.
Which type of reservation display do you prefer? Paper reservations managed by personnel or electronic reservation seat displays managed by a central team?
You should do a review of the Portuguese CP Alfa Pendular, which is a pendolino train and has just been refurbished!
Nice trip!
P.S. To travel within EU, certanly I'll prefer trains:)
Subscribed ;)
I rode this train through to Praha in 7/19 in 2nd class (we're cheapskates - two of us for something like $36!) Our only complaint was that the bathroom was awash in urine. I'm glad I wasn't wearing sandals.
For the Czech railways locomotive it has the Czechoslovakian Railway signalling and Safety Systems right up to the Hungarian border because in the Cold War Slovakia and Czech Republic were one country until 1993 the velvet divorce. ZSSK locomotive paint seems to resemble the Czechoslovakian railways
3:37 "I am shure, that they are great!
Shows the worst coach of MÀV called "Fecske" after the BHV. Every hungarian user of this stock, at least hates them
As a person living in Slovakia I can say that to me it seems at least for the capital that neither the roads or rails are heavily invested in (the train station in Trenčín, Trnava, Cífer, Poprad is nice.)
Love it great Video
That reminds me on the old days in Germany (West and East) with their spacy and comfy compartment coaches. Particulary the West German Intercity coaches from the seventies were very comfortable. The Interregio (IR) coaches from the eighties with their mixture of compartments and half open areas were good as well. All in comparison with the tight ICEs nowadays with their awefull narrow seats.
Yes, they reduced the seat spacing from 1010 millimeters in the 90s to 920 millimeters in the 2010s to only 856 mm now. The coaches used to be 3.02 meters wide in the 90s, now the newest trains are only 2.85 meters wide. Terrible development!
@@outdoorolli5754 Same with buses, I hate modern buses and I prefer only trains if I can. Old buses are ok, you have space around you, but in modern buses you have knees on seat in front of you, it's terrible experience when you have to go somewhere few hours with modern bus. Even old city public transportation buses are better than modern long ride buses for me.
That was very interesting !
Did you try the food ?
Thank you for sharing !!! :):):)
Nope unfortunately..

Two different companies....
Hungary, Slovakia and Czech republic is fully central.
I was going from Brno (city where i live) to Hamburg. And from Prague to Hamburg there was same coach Bmz. And from Brno to prague it was ABfpsz or what. And i love railwas in my country! (Czech Rep.) And zdravím from Brno ;) And i recommend RailJet in bussiens class it awesome and goulash soup from JLV( jdelni a luzkove vozy= eating and sleepeing coaches) is the best!
Love to travel with ÖBB trains (when at Austria) so most certainly would love this one too.. especially because that bigger bicycle transportation section which is missed ÖBB railjet -trains; I travel almost always with my bike... :) Again nice presentation! Start and end station presentations would be a nice extra to consider..

Price 1st is for hungarian people quite expensive ( florint)
Hungarian people take the bus to Bratislava / Prague.
To more distant places by plane because cheaper !!!
@@2012Budapest Plane is cheap only to London, Prasis and such places, when you want fly somewhere else and with big baggage, you have to pay full price, which is mostly something like 300 eur for return ticket. Cheap plane traveling is crazy myth created by people who are buying onle cheapest tickets or traveling with travel agency. Actually traveling by plane is still very expensive in most of situations. Especially when you are from shithole like Czech Republic and you don't have direct connection with most of places or you have just one company flying there. Czech are used to traveling to Vienna or Berlin for better plane connection. But traveling 5 hours to Vienna little kills purpose of plane - it should be fast. :-D

True ..
It's nota bout price I think, people are just used to riding in second class, they are not pussies, it's not nessesery paying more.
@@Pidalin or sometimes they don't know how much more it is.
Also in this case commuters might use the 2nd class, as the train stops at a lot of "commuter cities" in the Danube bend area, and this being the highest priority train on the line, it's less likely to be late. (this line is the second most used in the country)
@ I think people really don't know how much 1st class cost beause it's not so expensive as they think. I was traveling in 1st class from Prague to Warsaw with Czech train and it was actually much cheaper than I thought and we had restaurant vagon there and real tables where you could eat or have coffee in real ceramic cup. Seats are not much better than in 2nd class, but you are paying mainly for that there is less people which is really good on long journies like 8 hours. In 2nd class you sometimes even don't have space where to put your baggage.
