Actually, you'd be surprised! A lot of actors say that having to eat a lot of a certain food during filming completely ruins it for them. Like Angela Kinsey has said she can't eat ice cream cake anymore after filming a season 1 episode of The Office where she had to keep taking big bites of it during re-takes of a scene in the episode, because she had to take the same size of bite every time. And the rest of the cast usually had spit buckets so they could spit out their bites of food between takes after awhile so they didn't get sick (notable moments were Rainn Wilson and the banana he was eating in the episode where Phyllis got flashed, and the hot dog eating contest in the beach episode -- they all had spit buckets for that one). I'd guess Melissa probably had spit buckets for the pancakes too, or else she never wanted pancakes again after this!
Not exactly. Because of the number of retakes in the scenes a lot of the food is fake in the studio (because otherwise it would get spoiled) when they do use real food the actors just spit out the food after the takes to prevent them from getting sick.
@@christopherbingham5092Did the cold turkey and detox language not tell you this was a drug addiction metaphor? Alcoholism can run in families, so Spellmans and pancakes also works for the metaphor. One day at a time is a standard thing recovering addicts use to stay clean.
@@christopherbingham5092 Please explain how this is not a kid friendly way to convey an addiction storyline. Sabrina gets obsessed to the point she’s making pancakes in the middle of the night and acts ashamed when caught. She makes a pig of herself at the pancake breakfast. In this clip alone she is told to detox and go cold turkey, terminology associated with dealing with a drug or alcohol addiction and she’s clearly getting the shakes when trying to read the magazine, the shakes being a known withdrawal symptom. Recognizing the temptation is there but needing to reject it, saying taking it one day at a time is what recovering addicts need to do, the exact phrase was used by recovering alcoholic Peter Barlow! @@jbcatz5 It's absolutely a metaphor for addiction. Not sure why anyone feels the need to debate the point...that seems more like a desperate bid for attention from internet strangers., which is also an addiction.
@@christopherbingham5092 Hence the metaphor, using one thing to represent another. This whole thing about the Spellmans addicted to pancakes 🥞never really makes sense to me or to Sabrina at the start of the episode because she never have problems with pancakes before she had witch magic in Season one. Plus Zelda never really explain to Sabrina why the Spellmans have addiction to pancake in the first place because I'm beginning to think that she's trying to avoiding Sabrina's question.
Well I think the pancakes is kind of a metaphor for drugs. And if it were some hard drug, you’d wouldn’t have to explain why you’re addicted to. But I get your point!
I remember going through a pancake addictions growing up. I also went through other like donuts addictions but I've stop and now I'm addicted to eat healthy.
Apparently, Melissa Joan Hart even commented that Sabrina ate pancakes before on the show. She was then reminded that this is a show with a talking cat.
For a show that runs on puns, I'm surprised they missed the opportunity to conjure up a literal cold turkey and give it to Sabrina. 🦃
I think they make the same joke in another episode, and Salem goes, "turkey?! Ohoh pleease!"
Turkey? 🦃🦃🦃

I bet that Melissa loved filming this episode, due to all of the pancakes that she got to consume! 🥞😂

@@sagenebula I think re-takes are insane regardless. Perfectionism doesn't make an episode better it just wastes time and money.

"The money store?"
😅 Gets me every time.
hahahaha I love how the know-it-all doctor is a child 🤣
I, too, would prefer pancakes over character.
As a youngster, Little me didn't understand the metaphor for drug addiction, and actually thought that pancakes made you go crazy! 😜

They never had pancakes in the Spellman house and I don’t think they affected before she was 16 and came into her powers

lol it’s a crepe and 12 step meeting at Howard Johnson. Lol the money store
I wanted pancakes after the show's initial airing. But, years later, I didn't know it was a drug metaphor because ABC/Disney
Melissa has said this was her favorite episode.
Anyone else craving IHOP after watching this episode? 😋🥞
I think I been to IHOP Before and I think IHOP is one of my favorites Restaurants

The whole Spellman addiction to pancakes never made any sense

I thought it was supposed to be a metaphor for something else.
They cut out my favourite gag! Where Sabrina keeps cleaning but the clock goes backwards and she throws it out the window.
Plus, Mrs Mapleton
I was expecting that part also and they cut it just when it was about to happen
I empathise with Sabrina, I went through a pancake craze myself!
was some suit used for sabrina to get fat?
Aunt Zelda was in great shape!
Why did she hv an addicyion for pancakes in the 1st plce?
Because you can't smoke crack Friday nights on ABC.

Huh…Sabrina the Teenaged Witch predicted Ozempic
Looking forward to the pancake lady scene lol
I love pancakes
Who said that kid doc just gave Sabrina an Ozempic jab? 💀
I wonder why they put a piece of butter on the top, I find it ridiculous.
My mom worked for The Money Store at the time!
Why didn’t they go further with the drug references, like having Sabrina trying to snort pancake mix, or inject maple syrup into her veins?
If you make it past day three you’ll be okay Sabrina Spellman
Okay I guess she isn't working at a IHOP any time soon

It was code for men. The pancakes being men. Surrounded by we men.
