RED VELVET has two sides according to their group's name, RED FOR FUN UPBEAT EXPERIMENTAL SONGS. then we have the VELVET FOR DARK SLOW RNB SONGS, and lastly we have songs that has both sides (RED VELVET) dark and bright mixed together. THEY HAVE A WITCH (COLORFUL) CONCEPT to this group thats why you would see PINK WATERMELON(IRENE), YELLOW PINEAPPLE (SEULGI), BLUE FLESH ORANGES (WENDY), GREEN KIWI (JOY), PURPLE GRAPES (YERI) for their BRIGHT SONGS and you would see them trying to kill each other or others in their Dark songs as sacrifices (witch concept). They have the "CUTE BUT A PSYCHO" theme basically and got vocals and harmonies for YEARS!!
I'm glad you were able to spot the shift in tone. Red Velvet does have a lot of contemporary RnB songs which is part of their 'Velvet' side. If you like that vibe, you should check out Underwater from their latest album.
In the 90s, I was a huge fan of groups like En Vogue, Brownstone, and SWV. The reason I love Red Velvet is because their style of R&B gives me similar vibes. I still love many of their Red songs, but when they smooth R&B... it's special.
Yeah, a lot of Red Velvet songs have that timeless, old school R&B sound that I love. I consistently listen to their b-sides like You Better Know, Look, About Love, Cool World, etc.

It's cool to see artists from different companies making collabs🎉 I would love some SuperM type of group but with members from different companies and men-female, it would be dope!

Y´all need to react to Big Mama´s Killing Voice. When it comes to vocal based girl groups, they are the OG! Three of the members are university professors teaching vocal and practical music. Two of these three are now dean of the departments they are in. Y´all won't be disappointed. They are fantastic!
