There is a possibility that as we are living in very troubled times events could take place that would need the government in power to introduce draconian measure.The event could be civil unrest but it would have to be on a large enough scale to introduce marshal law [has been done in many countries] we would be told all will return to normal when the issue is under control.But the introduction of marshal law would cause civil unrest in itself hence a more permanent change to our laws. Croydon was partly burnt down without the need for marshal law but times are changing and politicians more frenzied about keeping power and with the gun and knife crime,endless illegal imigrants, possible national strike, recession or even a depression on the way Britain could see a far right government as in a number of countries in Europe.

I think it's unlikely, as Putin mainly wants the Crimea back and Ukraine to be less of a threat to Russia. My only worry though - is if Finland and Sweden do join NATO, then Putin could see that as an act of aggression against him - and then could give him the excuse to invade.
