Ive preferred content from older people since I was 20. All the hype, parties and superficial content from younger people just got way too exhausting for me. It made me feel nothing.

Dang y’all really love your kids. My parents didn’t even give me the option of college. Like, I could have gotten a loan on my own, I guess? But at 19 I had no idea how that all worked. They never even SUGGESTED that I even apply for colleges. They would have NEVER taken a trip across the country just to check out a school I MIGHT go to! Amazing!
Ha it’s funny how many kids have an issue with their parents over college. I have deep resentments over college issues with them too. Trying to force a major on me and not allowing me to go out of state and get they “independence”. It’s tough, but I plan on getting masters in whatever I want and wherever I want. So you don’t have to give up on it, if you want to pursue it, you can still do it. Sure you can’t visit every place, but take virtual tours and if a few really stand out then go look. College is not super necessary though, it’s no guarantee of success or happiness, ideally if you do it right, you at least grow as a person.
I just returned back to South Dakota from Alabama where my son went to visit a college. We are going to Texas and Minnesota next month to see additional colleges. It is interesting to be in the same stage of life as you and hearing your perspective on college visits. I have been trying to figure out how to ask questions during tours as a single mom, but yet not step on his experience of the tours and what he wants to find out. Such a fine line to a parenting when it comes to this age.
I was shocked when my son decided to attend his last two years of college online, while living at home, pre-pandemic, that the tuition was the same amount as if he was attending in person. Thinking he wasnt utilizing the campus, that it would be cheaper. However we did save room and board charges.
The institutions won't lower prices because it presumes a "lack" in quality and signals an "inability" to compete with and teach industry standards. Of course, this is all BS, but it makes sense financially. Many schools cut budget for the pandemic and the preparation of dropouts/low applicants. If they cut their prices then they'd be losing more money and risk shutting down. If the private schools lower prices, then they no longer have their image and/or edge against state schools and community colleges.

What's the city's incentive to make it easy for you to park? They make a fortune in parking tickets. And it would cost them a fortune to install and maintain.
I’m 35 with two teenagers one a 10th grading and l can’t tell you how much I needed to hear this. Iv been going thro a lot of back and forth with myself on the right way to influence my kids to make the right decisions. The detachment thing makes a lot of sense it’s kind of how I felt too, I will say having teenagers about to go to college is very emotional for me as a single mother, I just want them to make the right choices. I get to drive thru those exact same hills every day that I commute to work. I love when it’s green & the flowers are in bloom….and I ALWAYS look at he cows. 🥰
My 19 year old son is over in the Netherlands going to college. He will get a 4 year degree with a teaching certificate that will allow him to teach all over Europe and Asia. Tuition for the whole year was $8500. Rent is about $800 for a brand new apartment. He buys food from local farmer's markets. Meanwhile, my daughter is down in SoCal going to a community college and her tuition has been about $10,000 a year because we are out of state and her rent is $1700 for a one bedroom crappy apartment. If your child is adventurous and independent, it's way cheaper in Europe (and they teach in English)!

Just popping on here from the Apple podcast version, as that's how I normally listen, and just wanted to check has anything changed with the audio compared to all the other Ear Biscuits? On this this one (320) and the last one (319) Rhett's voice in particular seems a lot harsher, louder, almost distorted at times (is the only way I can describe it) than all the others. It doesn't seem as bad from Links microphone, and doesn't seem quite as noticeable on the UA-cam version compared to the Apple iTunes version though. Just curious. Long time listener here, listened to all episodes several times 😄, always love the episodes, so just wanted to share some feedback in case there is a audio issue on the podcast only versions, oh and the new set looks great 👍

58 Grand for a private liberal arts school, which is what my son is doing, was a lot when they were on campus last year and barely leaving their rooms! Thank God he pulled through, and this year, with an 82% vaccination rate, they were able to get back to "college live as usual" this year. It was a little touch and go for a while last year. Son number 2 is a senior this year, and he has made his choice to join the Army. I listened to a Mom who was very upset with a recruiter the other day and I realized that I was better at this "Loving Detachment" you speak of. I hate it, but I love that he has decided to do what he has always wanted to do, which is driving a tank. Good conversation guys!
To put some insight on this, I think that online classes have been super helpful for me personally. It was daunting and so different at first, but I've been able to have it work with me so I can work a lot more efficiently and be able to work at the same time. However, I do think that it has been super helpful now being able to go to campus to study and work on my schoolwork as opposed to doing it all at home, so I definitely agree that an environment specifically catered to education is a huge help.

My dad used to do this when I was a kid in the 80s. We got home one night, and he said, "Hey, everybody, stop and listen to the crickets. I didn't want to, and he got mad about it. It's funny when I think about it all these years later because now I enjoy going outside at night and relaxing to the sounds of the night.
It is! Most of the Central Valley is farmland, plains, and rolling hills. California is a beautiful state. We have swamps, mountains, valleys, deserts, plains, forests, etc.
I am the oldest of four and my parents have always said that it was destined for 18 year olds to leave when they do because thats when they drive everyone crazy 🤣.
I live in the bay but have a lot of family in Fresno/ Central Valley so I go down there all the time, but we usually always take the 99 instead of the 5
