Haven't heard this since it came out in 1968, when "Laugh~In" was actually on, played in heavy rotation along with Tiny Tim's "Tiptoe Through The Tulips" (what's w/ all these alliterative "T's"?;) Thanx for the memories!
I had this record when I was a kid back in the late 1960s, but I haven't heard it in years. I had trouble understanding much of the lyrics back then, and listening to this now, I still can't make out much of the words. Does anyone out there know what they were singing? I also had a record of Pigmeat Martin's take on the "Here Come Da Judge" craze, as well as a cassette of novelty songs featuring Shorty Long's version.
Comedian Pigmeat Markham is credited for using "Here comes the judge" in his comic routines. But it wwas Sammy Davis Jr.'s over-the-top spoof on "Laughh-In" that made the line immortal.
Yeah- Lots of other variations. I think this one is not the original incarnation of the judge theme, but it's the one I like the best. I love this song! Glad it brought back some good old memories.
Dewey "Pigmeat" Markham's version was the original, since he created the "judge " character. Sammy Davis Jr. just copied it from him with his own style. Shorty Long's version was a Detroit response to the Chicago-based version of Pigmeat's. A white , British comedian named Roddy Maude Roxby portrayed the first "Laugh In Judge" on the show's first season before Sammy Davis Jr. revived the character in the show's second season. Even originator Pigmeat Markham made at least one appearance on "Laugh In" with his judge character. This version seems to compete with Pigmeat's & Shorty's version with shout outs to Artie Johnson, Judy Carne, & George Schlatter's handclap at the end of every episode of "Laugh In."
@@robertorick6383 You’re right on the bees and honey. Pigmeat’s song was released in the UK on 28 June 1968, as was this one. Shorty Long’s song was out on 5 July.
This got some air play in the spring of '68 in the SF bay area. But it wasn't a big hit. Jean Hillary could sing and a very clever spoof on the "Laugh-In" show
Played Bass on this in 68 ...recorded at the CBS church studio 49 w. 52nd NY ......released on MGM.....fun.
I have'nt heard this in decades! Wore my 45 out! What a blast!
This was my wedding song in 89
Lol. No way
You're kidding!
I love this. I was born in 1968, so I wasn't around listening then, but I sure love it now and can't wait to get my hands on a copy.
I lost my 45, so thanks for posting it here. I can stop looking for it now.

@MegoGigantor -Jerry Gross and Mike Freda are from the Dovells.
Jerry and Mike are great. The girl is out of this world. Jean Hillary, that's her real voice. This was the first version out.

Where's Shorty Long when you need him? I heard the Pigmeat Markham version and it was awful too.

Does anybody know what word they say at about the 1 minute mark "We interrupt this program to bring you a ??????????"
Don Stevens It's "glimpse of". Later the wise-crack voice asks "Hey, what's a glimpsof"??

boy that was the good day
Was that sound at the beginning of the record supposed to be a police car siren? And what was that gibberish that followed it?
If this was recorded 10 years earlier it would have been done by the Coasters.
What genre would you say this is?
Что-то в виде RNB.
Раннее, спесивое, хорошее.
Funky to the max
