No man, you don't have to bleed anything. I don't know whose stupid idea was to give this kind of lore to red crystals, but red crystals in the past were found just like all the other crystals. The canon used to say that because they were such a rarity though, red crystals had to be mostly synthetic.
Apparently in this alternate universe, the Jedi were the most loyal servants on the Empire. Jedi belonged to different clans and fought countless times for power but then a sect of Jedi, who wished to make their own destiny and serve none but themselves away from constant war, rebelled and called themselves the Sith. The Sith rebellion failed (I think that's what they mean by "the war") and the Jedi clans united to form the Empire. It's actually pretty fucking cool and there's a visual novel coming in October based on the Ronin and who he actually is.
Pretty sure it's just an actual novel that's coming in October (the kind with words :) by Emma Mieko Candon (unless there's two due I guess ?). Good news for me since i'm not into so-called "visual novels".
One of my oldest friends is a huge anime fan but has never seen Star Wars. After binging Visions, he asked me to watch the entirety of the movies with him.
Good on you! Will be interesting for you see your friend's reactions. Will you watch in order or start with the Classic Trilogy. Throw in _Clone Wars_, _Rebels_, & _Madelorian_ and you're set!
Absolutely agree! Each episode feels a lot like a prologue to a grand epic story. And I really had to look up the composer's name before fooling myself into thinking it's one of Williams's disciples. And not just the score that is great but also the sound design and sound mix. The first sound I heard in each episode transported me right back to the galaxy far far away. Despite having wildly different art styles, everything feels strangely familiarly Star Wars.
The ninth Jedi to me was an amazing episode I really would love a whole series off that episode. Wouldn’t even mind if it were canon cause it’s set so far into the future after the Star Wars shows and movies we know and is very similar to the Star Wars we know.
I feel the same way, they were all fun to watch but episode 5 was just incredible. I really just enjoyed it so much, and I want The Ninth Jedi to be a canon series so badly!
The umbrella part being an attachment reminded me of the Jedi ships in the High Republic, how they can use their lightsabers to power their weapon systems.
what i'm most excited about for this series to do is for it to introduce a lot more people to the different studios behind each episode and get them to check out more anime projects they've worked on. the studio behind this episode, kamikaze douga, is probably most recognizable for their work in the CG openings of the first three parts of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and the Batman Ninja animated movie- which was batshit insane in a very good way.

Kamikaze Douga made a film in this 3d style called Batman Ninja. It had Batman heroes and villains transported to Feudal Japan. Written by the writer of Gurren Lagann. Just in case you're interested... it's ridiculous!
The way he appears and disappears reminds me of what they have always said the Jedi should live their lives. No one and nothing holding them down, just traveling where the force sends them to correct any and all imbalances. There is no good or evil, only The Force. This guy is more old school Jeedai.
This one and The Elder are my favorites so far. I've watched three out of the nine episodes but The Elder topped it for me, great character building in that one.
Let's be honest the mood ring lightsabers in The Ninth Jedi were pretty sweet too. The moment dude took the saber, turned it green, and gave it a cross guard 🤌🏼
@@SirDinoz I watched them out of order. Mainly cause from watching the trailers The Elder was the one I wanted to see the most. You're fine though, I don't mind spoilers, I was just warning for anyone else who may have checked the replies.

The umbrella saber works because it's an ornate japanese fantasy weapon, which fits really well into the 'space edo' aesthetic, not to mention that lightsabers are themselves already based on japanese weapons to begin with
absolutely just watched every episode at once, very much enjoyed all of them. One of my favourite moments in a later episode "the ninth jedi" spoiler was when the others got their sabers and they all turned red its was very intimidating as hell and actually gave me chills, my only issue with visions is that I want more some of the stories felt way to short and the endings weren't satisfying enough so it needs more, I think every studio did an excellent job animating and all the styles were great. during the robot one all i was thinking was Astro boy, I think this episode, the duel, was my number one episode and the final one was my least favourite but all were good and now I really want the music from the second episode
Can we please appreciate Eric's comment at 8:37 - "perhaps he killed a sith and took his lightsaber from him?" Clearly referring back to Episode 1: TPM where Qui Gon says the same about a Jedi to young Anakin. Or am I hearing what I want to hear? 😬😬😬😬😬 Eric... was that intentional and just went over your crewmate's heads?
I remember in the trailer reaction and then again in this, you called the droid 4-Lom, but I could not find the droid at all. Then you go a say "it's like an" RA-7 droid later in the discussion, but it IS an RA-7 droid!
From what I heard about the saber, his primary hilt is damaged and he can’t turn it off, so he made a sheath out of lightsaber hilts from other sith he defeated.
You honestly could have made this entire episode literally just the one scene of Ronin drawing his lightsaber and parrying that first attack and I would have been satisfied. This is was one hell of a way to start off a new series
What I really loved about this episode is that you can see the sith training that they BOTH had: aggressive and powerful strikes to overwhelm your opponent.
While i agree the sub is better, i like my reactions in the reactors native language, i feel sometimes them reading the subs take some of the reaction magic
Ronin: a masterless Samurai I place my bet, that this man was a Sith Apprentice who decided to kill his master and hunt Sith after learning they are truly evil. kind of like if an Anakin-Type who wanted power for a purpose realized he was being twisted and said to hell with it; i got what training i need and death to all the guys who want to give me trouble. Any which way- I like this particular visual story they've made , and the Japanese flavoring is so cool for Star Wars world design, what a great first episode!
"It's really a love letter to cinema as a form expressed through George and Kurosowa - fundamental cinematic techniques, like the boiling teapot building tension toward the end. It's the cinematic legacy and appreciation of it all; there's just so much for cinephiles." ―James Waugh

Same. FWIW, I really enjoyed about 4 out of 9 and didn't regret watching maybe another 2. Not a bad hit ratio i'd say. (predictably, the ones I liked least had the most of what I don't like about anime)
Way I see it is the sheath is a battery pack. The blade isn’t inside of it, but activates when the hilt separates from it. Then it ends at a certain length.
I love that all the items that had actual colors in the episode are the color of lightsabers. I noticed blue, red, green, purple, orange and yellow, not sure if I missed any.
Looking forward to the rest of your reactions on the different Star Wars Visions shorts, I'm especially more excited to your reaction and thoughts to _The Twins,_ The Village Bride,_ and _The Ninth Jedi_
the most interesting thing about the novel based on this is that the dark side straight up does not exist. there is the bright and explosive white flare and flowing and subtle black current, both aspects of the force, and both used by all force users
A Sith hunter who takes kyber crystals as trophies is an awesome idea. Hope Disney greenlights series of this and the 9th Jedi episode. They can even be made canon with little to no tweaking.
Initially I didn't understand why I loved so much this first episode. Then I realized that Kamikaze Douga was responsible for the first four openings of JJBA, so now it makes perfect sense for me. :) Great start for sure. I can't wait to watch Studio Trigger's stuff (don't spoil for me, thanks). :)
I like to imagine that these stories are canon, but the stories are told in very different ways and that these stories are taken place hundreds or thousands of years after OG trilogy
There are OT characters and references in these though. I'm usually all for people having their own head-canon but if it's directly contradicted by what we see on screen then it becomes nonsensical. These are just non-canonical Star Wars stories. Doesn't mean we can't enjoy them immensely.
I could rewatch this episode for like 24 hours straight, the animation style, score, action and even the brief story are all top notch. Star Wars, Kurosawa and anime all in one, want more sequels to this episode I loved the Elder episode too, especially that killer move at the end of the fight; want more stories with those Jedi too.
That umbrella lightsaber is totally unique, and ronin here is a tactial genuis, baiting the Sith bandit to a trap that works well. Now that's tactial awareness at its finest.
Fun fact about that first light saber kill... Se punched through that lizard man with the steel part of the light saber, that looked blunt and not pointy at all... So... DAMN!!!!
The art style reminded me of Afro Samurai, especially the sith lord with her giant hair and wide pant legs and looking at the credits; Takashi Okazaki, the creator of Afro Samurai, is credited as character designer!
The style is very much like his original Afro Samurai comic, as opposed to the anime films which were a little slicker and in color. I think the comic even had red and the only color. Loved seeing that style come alive.
@@Fardawg Right. The art style is based on Okazaki's manga art style. So it was cool to see his art style animated since the Afro Samurai anime went with a more traditional anime art style instead. I'm glad "The Duel" is getting an actual manga adaptation which means we're getting more Okazaki art.
Just inherited 60K worth of Star Wars toys and memorabilia from the last 40 plus years! Most are unopened I’m so excited! Always loved Star Wars this is the icing on the cake!!!!
This was by far the best episode of the series. Such a great art style and the story was pretty badass. I didn't particularly enjoy episodes 2,3 & 6 but the rest were also pretty awesome
I played the 1st episode and it was Japanese. Thought it was intentional and it translated perfectly. You couldn’t understand what they were saying but you see it was good vs evil. In any language.

That was amazing! I like how that guy keeps the crystal of every sith he slays apparently. So he must be a dark jedi then
I love that all the items that had actual colors in the episode are the color of lightsabers. I noticed blue, red, green, purple, orange and yellow, not sure if I missed any.
if this team took over in producing a Berserk series than I would feel safe
Great start. I could definitely hear hints of duel of the fates, and the choir bits reminded me of Demon Slayer.
Quality loved animation style & story, music even had hints of duel of the fates when they're fighting on the log.
2nd favourite of 9.
This was the one I was looking forward to the most from the trailer.
Absolutely beautiful.
The old sword in the umbrella trope. Sweet.
And the umbrella sheath being a splitter for her lightsaber?! Also sweet.
I like to imagine that these stories are canon, but the stories are told in very different ways and that these stories are taken place hundreds or thousands of years after OG trilogy
They are literally not though
There are OT characters and references in these though. I'm usually all for people having their own head-canon but if it's directly contradicted by what we see on screen then it becomes nonsensical.
These are just non-canonical Star Wars stories. Doesn't mean we can't enjoy them immensely.
Eric: "Don't fly with it, don't fly with it" 🤣🤣
I also was like Eric so that it didn't fly.
That's a collection even general grievous would be proud of
the ronin looks like the hero in Blade of the Immortal... this was a good first episode :)
Ngl, star wars visions is an absolute banger
I could rewatch this episode for like 24 hours straight, the animation style, score, action and even the brief story are all top notch. Star Wars, Kurosawa and anime all in one, want more sequels to this episode
I loved the Elder episode too, especially that killer move at the end of the fight; want more stories with those Jedi too.
Straight amazing, this is the Star Wars I’ve been waiting for so long.
That umbrella lightsaber is totally unique, and ronin here is a tactial genuis, baiting the Sith bandit to a trap that works well.
Now that's tactial awareness at its finest.
I took it that the ronin character was a Sith hunter...whereas we've seen the concept of a Jedi hunter before so he is the opposite.
Fun fact about that first light saber kill... Se punched through that lizard man with the steel part of the light saber, that looked blunt and not pointy at all... So... DAMN!!!!
I'm feeling a kind of happiness because I can watch the Samurainized Starwars in this era. commented by a geek from Japan.
This one was my favourite out of the whole series, was soo damn cool and i loved the art style.
I can't believe I waited this long to watch it. I now gotta catch up to season 2
This was by far the best episode of the series. Such a great art style and the story was pretty badass. I didn't particularly enjoy episodes 2,3 & 6 but the rest were also pretty awesome
If that Ronin guys lightsaber is always on then that must mean his sword holding thing is made from Beskar
this is the new this is a samurai lightsaber handle
That Sith Lady must've thought: I'll try spinning, that's a good trick.
I played the 1st episode and it was Japanese. Thought it was intentional and it translated perfectly. You couldn’t understand what they were saying but you see it was good vs evil. In any language.
cannot wait for you guys to watch episode 3
I came here to see Eric react to the Umbrella saber
Me too, I was also like Eric when I saw the Umbrella saber
The animation style reminded me a lot of the rotoscoping used in Ralph Bakshi's animated "Lord of the Rings" film.
Absolutely my favourite Visions episode.
Yoda kept near the dark side cave to keep hidden. Perhaps the crystal can do the same on a small scale
i loved the saber sound effects...pretty awesome
I wanna see a full series of the first episode so baddd
Absolutely my favorite episode out of the nine, love the homage to Yojimbo
i think the man was a Jedi who hunts Sith for redemption purposes for his pasts
STRAIGHT FIRE OFF THE RIP. OMG 1st episode needs to be a miniseries
So glad that I don't have to click on another link to watch the reaction!
Literally (not figuratively) just finished episode 1, nice coincidence
I just watched them all. I think this is my favourite
animation is such a good medium for the star wars universe
a Sith killing other Sith with dirty tactics is the most Sith thing a Sith can Sith!
