Dude you are a god. Seriously. My 2-year-old TV started showing dark right screen a couple weeks ago. I did a Google search and saw where that was a known problem, and some said it only gets worse until screen is totally dark. I did a live chat with TCL and nothing they suggested worked. They finally said I was out of warranty so they could not replace my TV. Then today, I could hear sound perfectly but no picture on any channel. I tried your first hack (home 5 x, up 1x etc) and my picture is back.

I’m having this same exact issue now where the Roku logo flashes twice during boot up but then the screen is blank. Did you end up finding a fix for it?
@@chandlerp After getting in touch with customer service, they determined it was "LED backlight failure", and that I needed to get a new TV (which I did). The problem I was having involved abrupt sudden loss of picture. The audio continued without interruption. It was as if someone just flipped a switch and turned off the screen illumination. Turning the TV off (with the remote) and back on (sometimes more than once) was the only way I could get the picture back. There was no real rhyme or reason to the frequency or onset of the problem, but it usually only waited about 10 - 15 minutes before happening again. I was baffled, and had begun to resolve myself to purchasing a new TV. Then I came across this fix. Not knowing if the remote "code" would result in having to re-enter credentials and network settings, I opted to use the third "fix" first. In fact, I was watching a program when the screen went dark again, and I pulled the plug without getting the picture back. We counted off 60 seconds and plugged the TV back in. It has been running for almost 2 hours since then, and the mysterious black screen has not revisited so far. Thanks for the simple fix! If it starts happening again, I know how to solve it. I sure would like to know WHY this works... ie: WHAT is going on INSIDE the TV, to make it black out, and WHY does this fix it? For now, however, I will take the win :D UPDATE: The TV ran well all day and evening... It was fine for 12 hours and I shut it off and retired to bed. The next morning it displayed the home screen for about 1 second, and went black. I cycled the power a couple of times, no joy... :( unplugged for a few minutes, and powered it up to a picture, which lasted for about five minutes and then black screen, just sound. Now cycling the power button accomplishes nothing. No sound, no picture, just the remote indicator on the TV flashes each time I push a button. Time for a new TV after all. :(

I have a TCL Roku 65-in TV while watching a program today it went black and had sound I've done all the tricks I found on UA-cam and nothing has worked I got it new 5 months ago.
Thank you! The program indicator - as in the white border you move around to select Netflix, cable, UA-cam etc. wasn't showing. I tried unplugging the tv, but that didn't work. The reboot did! Thanks again.
No luck, does plugging into a surge protector outlet make a difference? It's been less than a year with this TV and yes we have warranty it that can be a hassle so trying everything before going that route
The key sequence is one that intentionally crashes the Roku operating system, causing the TV to reboot. It should act exactly the same as pulling the power. It's used by Roku developers to force the device to send a crash report back to Roku's server so they can examine the system state at the time of the crash.
After unplugging it. try holding in the power button while unplugged for 30 seconds while. This method should purge all the reserve power in the system as well. After say 30 seconds. Or try a 60 second hold if the 30 sec didn't work, just in case. But this might also help someone as well. Especially with Roku TCL tvs. I LIKED THE REMOTE COMBO NEVER SEEN THAT ONE. Mine was a backlight sadly. but the purge helped it turn back on a few more times longer before completely having to replace strips. Plus the strips are made in batches!😩so if one goes the rest will follow sadly🤷🏻♂️. Found that out the hard way as well . Thanks for the video man

Nothing, happened. 😢 this is the second time this has happened. I had to UPS my TV to the shop in Buffalo New York to be fixed(thank goodness I paid for 3 year insurance coverage)because a TV repairman does not come out unless you have a 65in. television, this is for all TVs. I tried the options you showed but none of them worked for my issue. I did a factory reset and so far it's working great. If it goes back to flickering, I'll post up again about it.
If all that fails try this. Worked for us. **FACTORY RESET** Introduction You may need to factory reset your TCL Roku TV in order to resolve an error or network connectivity issue. Please be aware that performing a factory reset will remove all of your personal data including, settings, Roku data, and menu preferences. Before performing a factory reset, make sure that you have your network credentials available to reconnect the TV to your network. You will also need to repeat the guided setup, the antenna TV setup (channel scan), and input configuration after the reset is complete. 1 Factory Reset Select the Home button on your remote to open the main screen. Select Settings. Select System Select Advanced system settings Select Factory reset. (Number Code will be on the screen to enter) Select Factory reset everything

Had put in an order for a new TV, found your video and in less than 5 minutes may TV is back!!! Going to cancel order for new TV and enjoy the one I already have. Once again thank you!!
Thank you so much! I did the first one and was able to see my pictures/videos again. This is not a good sign but at least This helped me to get through “now”😬🤦🏽♀️🙏🏽💞
The button combo actually made our problem worse. Our screen started with the top half being much darker then the bottom half, once we tried the button hack the screen became almost completely black. Tried unplugging and waiting and nothings working.
I was just about ready to take my tv down and go get another. I tried the sequence a few times....noticed a few ROKU flashes but no good. This morning I got up and I tried the sequence and the screen appeared once. I kept doing the sequence a few more times. Bingo....it came back on. Been on for a few hours. Thank you very much.
Thank you, Sir! I don't know how you found that first remote trick, but it seems to have worked for us. At least 2 hours in after doing it and not a single flicker where it had been doing it increasingly for 4 days. Tried all of the unplugging first and resetting through the remote/settings screen but didn't do the trick before this.
Thanks man! My PS4’s display just didn’t look very good so I reset the TV, it looked pretty shotty and choppy. Needless to say, we’re all good now! From one techie to another, appreciate you man!
Tried all 3, still flickering, but some improvement. Before that, i tried unplugging all attachments and restarting tv, reset router, rescan channels, etc.
If you are one of those folks, like me, and nothing on the internet, including these three methods works, then it's time for a new TV. My TCL is two years old and the back light problem it has is and has been a known issue by TCL for quite some time. If this did work for you, it won't down the road, but you are receiving a warning sign. The best way to avoid this problem is to not buy this brand!
@Tara McDonough I feel your pain but unfortunately I'm here to tell you Samsung is just as bad. I've had 3 Samsung's fail on me after being less than a year old. This made me switch to TCL and now I'm having these problems and on my 2nd TCL which just failed on me. Unfortunately it's becoming harder and harder to find a tv that doesn't cost thousands of dollars that will last more than 2 years. I'm going to give Vizio a try next... hoping for better luck.
button combo (solution 1) did the trick. Also one thing of note - I have a totally different TV (10+ yrs old and not a smart TV) and a different ROKU remote as well, and the button combo shown did the trick perfectly. Thanks!!!
Thanks so much! I’m subbing and liking. I was having an issue where I could hear everything on my tv but not see. Even on games such as my PlayStation. Key combo worked! Thanks 🙏🏻 👍🏻
Bruh one day I wanted to play video games and when I turned it on BOOM it was like a worn out color on the screen and little flicks on it and I literally did NOTHING to it😭

The TCL TV is an inexpensive design and performs very basically. The flickering is because it can't latch onto the video signal. It will affect some worse than others because of variations in quality and parts used. All these fixes are smoke and mirrors.
I gave it a thumbs down because when powered up, I can see the picture but it clearly goes back to a black screen. I only had this tv for about seven months now and it's acting like this. This tv doesn't be touch often and I just can't get it to come back on. Is there any other option avaliable?

Yessssss!!!! I just had the exact same issue as you and step one worked the first time! Glad I read your comment! Thanks!!!!
Fixed mine as well
The 1st reset works! 😮 I was sitting here saying I am not buying another TV.
Just did the first step. Immediately fixed after it restarted. I guess we will see how long that works. Thank you so much!
Hey can we get an update on that? Has your tv given you any issues?
@@juansantiagosantos4578 it is still working perfectly with zero issues. Thanks again
What if all 3 don't work
Thank you buddy the first fix worked for me, kept me from snapping my firestick in half.
I have a TCL Roku 65-in TV while watching a program today it went black and had sound I've done all the tricks I found on UA-cam and nothing has worked I got it new 5 months ago.
Same here let me know if you find something:/
Same
Probably bad led light.
Same thing. This sucks. The tv is1-1.5 years old. 😭
Thank you! The program indicator - as in the white border you move around to select Netflix, cable, UA-cam etc. wasn't showing.
I tried unplugging the tv, but that didn't work.
The reboot did!
Thanks again.
Thanks so much I unplugged it for ten seconds 😂 and it work!!! Good stuff !!
Lifesaver, thanks bro I thought I was cooked.. that code with the remote actually works yall
Thanks for the video man
I try it I can see the TCL sign for second thin black screen again
Same here
This worked great. Thank you for putting this video out there.
Thanks my screen was slightly dark a bit fuzzy, this fixed it right up. Thanks again.
My TV while watching fades out to black it sux sometimes I turn on & keep hitting home button when goes into rest mode for about an hour warm up I guess sometimes it works some time it dont. Tryed a factory reset nothing tryed these 3 things stll fades out im so bummed 65 inch tv not even 6mo old to me ugg
Did you take out a warranty on it when you brought it?
Nothing, happened. 😢 this is the second time this has happened.
I had to UPS my TV to the shop in Buffalo New York to be fixed(thank goodness I paid for 3 year insurance coverage)because a TV repairman does not come out unless you have a 65in. television, this is for all TVs. I have only had this television for 4 years and now again the same problem I am just too through.😢
I've done these several times & nothing.
For me it worked for 5mins then it went black again
Time for a new tv pal 🤷🏽♂️
@@Elphino_Panda mine about to die happened twice . Then it finally no black screen then few days later happened again . So either bad hdmi cable or tv about to die but auto still works . I tried new hdmi still issue. I unplug tv cord worked then comes black screen and flickers says later
The first tip worked. Thanks for the help! I'm concerned though it will happen again, since I had just done a factory reset last week.
The first method worked for me! My screen started randomly showing two of everything as if it had been dropped or something, but I did the button combo and it reset and came back to normal. Thank you so much!
Awesome I did the first method with certain codes on the controller and it work. Thanks I couldn't afford to buy a new one, I'm glad it worked. God bless
At first the button sequence seemed to have fixed it, but it came back. The hard restart/unplug thing seems to work better. Thank you so much!
Same
Thank you, the second method worked for me unplug and plug for 30 secs then turn on, unplug and plug again for one min the sec time then turn on and everything back to normal thank you so much.
I tried the options you showed but none of them worked for my issue. I did a factory reset and so far it's working great. If it goes back to flickering, I'll post up again about it.
Fixed my TCL Roku 50" tv!!! Thanks a million!!!!
Did not work got a flicker still black screen
@@bryce3rogersame
If all that fails try this. Worked for us. **FACTORY RESET**
Introduction
You may need to factory reset your TCL Roku TV in order to resolve an error or network connectivity issue.
1 Factory Reset
Select the Home button on your remote to open the main screen.
Select Settings.
Select System
Select Advanced system settings
Select Factory reset.
(Number Code will be on the screen to enter)
Select Factory reset everything
I SAW MASTER RESET WORKED AND TURNED OFF BUT STILL CAME BACK DARK 😭
That first key combo of
5 Homes,
1 Up ^ arrow,
2 > fastfwds WORKED!!!!
WOOHOO,
YOU Rock, Dude. Thank You so much!!!
My guy! Thank you so much! I've been dealing with this for so long so annoying. But it's fixed, you the man!
Still flickering, boo. TV is barely two years old too.
Dude you are awesome! I have been trying for weeks to fix TV issue, using multiple UA-cam videos and suggestions from friends. Had put in an order for a new TV, found your video and in less than 5 minutes may TV is back!!! Going to cancel order for new TV and enjoy the one I already have. Once again thank you!!
Picture did a freeze and a slow fade out one day, button combo worked, thank you!
First method worked. Thanks very much much. I thought I had to buy a new tv.😳😎
Glad it helped
Thank you so much!!! I thought I bought a 400 dollar lemon lol
🤣
Thank you so much! I did the first one and was able to see my pictures/videos again. What was happening for me was once I clicked on a video to watch, the thumbnail looked perfect, but the actual video was blackening everything.
Same. I'm right there with ya
Same, ours came on a few times but then faded dark, none of the suggestions are working.. bumm, ours isn't even a year old either. @@TheAliciaGreene
I had non-flickering dim areas, and option #1 fixed it. Thank you so much!
Glad it helped!
So what tv brands last longer? I had my tcl roku for about three years now and it started doing this blinking thing and it won’t go away
Thanks!!!
Thanks so much first Method worked 👍
Thanks so much! I’m subbing and liking. I was having an issue where I could hear everything on my tv but not see. Even on games such as my PlayStation. Key combo worked! Thanks 🙏🏻 👍🏻
I lost my remote but cant get the button combo to work with the controller app.. any ideas
TCL sucks I was randomly watching tv and my tv went completely black and it won’t cut on now
Bruh one day I wanted to play video games and when I turned it on BOOM it was like a worn out color on the screen and little flicks on it and I literally did NOTHING to it😭
The code worked for me. Had to put it in twice. After the 2nd time I waited 5 mins (went to search for another video/ I thought it didn’t work) and it stopped flickering.
Tv: Roku Insignia (best buy) about 4 yrs old.
The screen got darker but hopefully I can fix that in setting.
Your a Genius bro!! Thanks!!
Vid was 2 years ago and u just saved me from buying another tv 😭😭🙏🏾
Fixed after step 1. Thanks!
Thank you so much… That’s exactly what I needed to do… You are a true blessing
It worked perfectly on the first suggestion you made
The TCL TV is an inexpensive design and performs very basically. The flickering is because it can't latch onto the video signal. It will affect some worse than others because of variations in quality and parts used. All these fixes are smoke and mirrors.
well this is untrue in most cases, the roku tcl's dont need a signal to latch onto, it has an os it boots into.
What a useless, made up out of thin air comment.
Thanks buddy. My screen was Flickering. And I couldn't do anything Rebooting worked. thank you again
My tv is still black screen but has sound
Did you fix it
Neither process worked😢
Worked like a charm for me
Thank you so much. Unplugging the tv has worked for me. My tv is working again.
i did all 3 steps just in case lol and so far seems to work! thanks!
Wow!! Great job!! I got it to stop buffering thank you so much!!
I gave it a thumbs down because when powered up, I can see the picture but it clearly goes back to a black screen. I only had this tv for about seven months now and it's acting like this. This tv doesn't be touch often and I just can't get it to come back on. Is there any other option avaliable?
This guy didn’t break your TV…don’t give a thumbs down for attempting to help others just because it didn’t help your specific problem
