  • With the spring classics season in full swing, you should have a look at what climbs the pro peloton will be taking on in races like the 'Ronde van Vlaanderen' & the E3 classic. Some of the climbs are extremely tough to endure, and Paterberg is definitely one of them. It's a very short climb, but the gradient can go up to 20% on this cobbled climb, which makes it an absolute stinger and a great place for the pros to separate the wheat from the chaff, by means of attacking! The combination of cobbles and a gradient this steep can make an enormous difference in the big races and it might just be on the Paterberg that we see the decisive winning move of this years' RVV.
To put the climb into perspective and to have a look for yourself, I made this timelapse that sheds some light on the harshness of it, and it helps you recognize where the attacks can be expected. Also, if you really want to find out how hard these kinds of races are, you should consider paying a visit to Belgium and try the famous cobbles for yourself!
