I like how you throw the buzzbait anyway. Knowing it wouldn’t bite it, but when things like that happen in nature you drop all of the “learned fishing knowledge”, because this could go anywhere! That’s when you truly feel like you’ve been in the wild. I had a deer take over an hour to shyly come up to me while I was fishing that was acting strange. I am an extremely ethical deer hunter also, so study their habits closely. Something was wrong. The closer he got I saw his ear was about 3”thick and had about 10 huge ticks the size of marbles on it!!! I had my fishing pliers in my back pocket. I knelt down, and made clear that I was comfortable with him being around. He was a 4-5 yr old buck. He came right up at once when I crouched down. I removed the ticks one by one, and even squeezed out as much of the puss as I could, which was about a full 8 oz cup!! I could feel the trembles of pain in his shoulder which was against me to have something to pull against for the deep ticks. I got a couple more that were on his face and other ear. I knew going to my car to get neosporin ointment was WAY out of the question, but I wish I would’ve been able to give him an He shook his head when I stood up slowly and took a step back to comfort him. He moved his ear a lot and looked at his surroundings, and then lifted his head and scanned me, my fishing gear, especially the soft plastics because of the salt and scents in them I guess. Then he actually took a half step closer to me, and looked into my eyes for about 10 whole secs., really deep. I could feel that was his way of saying Thank you. At 5 years old, he has to be a wise deer, or he would not be that old in this particular area. I know I wrote a stupidly long comment, but I hope you read it eventually. I live in the Appalachian Mountains and have an even better story of a black bear w/cubs (which usually means LOOK OUT) while fly fishing mtn. creeks for trout, but that’s for another day. Peace and good fishing to you. Those experiences like that are the most profound ones in my memory.
I read your whole comment, that is an incredible experience and thank you for sharing the story. The world needs more people like you in it! Again, thank you for sharing your story. It was an incredible read!
What an amazing experience (and now story) you have. Nature continues to open my eyes and NEVER ceases to impress me. Just how all nature works as a give-and-take system, we too should be doing our part to give back (especially for as much as we take.) But unlike the bees that pollinate, the deer that feeds, the river that calms thirst, and the trees that provide home and shade... we are sadly more like parasites in comparison. We take and take and rarely give anything back. But your good deed doesn't go unnoticed! That deer trusted you and felt safe with you for a reason. Perhaps they sense kindness- like how dogs seem to know who the "dog lovers" are. Whatever the reason, thank you for giving back, in the best way you knew how. I hope nature continues to come to you when in need, knowing that you will be the type of man to care for it. And in return, you get to take the memories and stories to share with other's who may, one day, be faced with a challenge such as yours. We can only hope they will have the same heart and courage to do the right thing too. ❤ Thank you for your kindness!
Omg I loved your experience with the deer!!! I would love to hear more of them like the bear and anymore that you would want to share... Back in the late 1960's I was fishing with my dad on Pipestone Lake up on the Northwest Arm across from the entrance to Schist Lake, and a Northern Pike stuck it head out of the water about 6 feet from the boat and made a slow half circle around the back half of the boat and then slowly disappeared backwards down into the water. I've seen both pike and muskie do this. I have been told it may have something to do with digestion but no idea if that's true. We call it the pike peak, because you turn around and it's sometimes one is just staring at you it seems.

Was he hooked onto your line then?
@@UTAHtheN0bleBirthright- No, he swam off. I think he was just checking out the shine off my reel
@@UTAHtheN0bleBirthright- I should’ve mentioned in the original comment that we had just got there and in the water. We were there maybe 10 minutes before I lost my rod and I hadn’t even gotten a chance to fish yet.
That fish was like… Are you feeling it now Mr. Krabs??

I've seen both pike and muskie do this. I have been told it may have something to do with digestion but no idea if that's true. We call it the pike peak, because you turn around and it's sometimes one is just staring at you it seems.
That's wild! I guess even fish can give you the side-eye sometimes.
I've seen one about the same size lay on top of lilly pads for about a minute. I thought it was just getting some morning sun
